If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/26/14

Ugh. Welcome back to school. Here’s your yearly dose of sore throats, coughs, and drippy noses. Yes, the little petri dishes are back, which means they soak up every bit of germs they can and then bring it home, infecting not only themselves, but their families as well. My kiddo came home sick last week—stayed home from school for two days—then my husband got it over the weekend and stayed home Monday from work. Monday night? It’s my turn. So it’s all happy happy joy joy here. Josh is still fighting off his cough, Scott just feels blech, and my throat and nose feel like they’re trying to make me cry. To take my mind off our temporary ill health, let’s see what we’re recommending for tonight.

choppedsmallI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I love when Chopped runs a special tournament. The one that’s starting tonight is a biggie. Sixteen previous winners are coming back to compete in one big five-week “Ultimate Champions” tournament. Chefs/cooks from four different groups (pros, amateurs, heroes, & celebrities) compete one group per week, and then in week five, the four winners compete in the grand finale for the chance to win $50,000 and a new car! That’s the biggest prize in the show’s history, but with so many great competitors, it’s no wonder.

On tonight’s episode, “Ultimate Champions: Pros,” four professional chefs have to wrangle and cook eels and figure out what to do with a super-salty veggie for their appetizers. Then, in the entree round, they have to work with a bird and a soda. And a special cheese and a creepy chocolate item appear in the dessert basket.

Find out what the creepy chocolate item could be tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Fighters, America’s Got Talent, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Restaurant Startup, Sullivan & Son, & Wizard Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/15/14

Did you have a good Monday? I slept most of the afternoon after having not slept Sunday night, so my Monday was weird. Hopefully my Tuesday will be different! I’ve got stuff I need to do! But there’s plenty for me to watch tonight, regardless, so check out our recommendations. 🙂

chopped715smallI love when Chopped does special episodes and tournaments. I loved the lunch ladies. There’s been episodes of moms and dads, members of the Armed Forces, and quite a few more, but honestly, one of the ones that’s always the most fun is the teens. It’s amazing to see what kids even as young as fourteen can do in the kitchen. They’re truly incredible to watch, and I love seeing how bright a future they have. Tonight is the start of the first ever teen tournament. For four weeks, four sets of four teens will compete to earn a spot in the grand finale. On tonight’s first round, there are three 16-year-olds (Alexandria, Ashley, & Jay) and one 14-year-old (Jason). I can’t wait to see how well they all handle the pressure of the Chopped kitchen.

On tonight’s episode, “Teen Tournament: Part One,” four young cooks must utilize lamb loin chops and kale chips in the Appetizer Round; french fries and cookies make an appearance in the Entree Round; in the Dessert Round, the teens must transform a frozen treat into a dessert.

See which of the four amazingly talented young cooks comes out on top tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Buddy’s Bakery Rescue, America’s Got Talent, Married at First Sight, Next Great Baker, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Underground BBQ Challenge, Restaurant Startup, & Sullivan & Son.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/8/14

I looked at the calendar today and realized my kiddo has just over a month until school starts. That’s crazy. I swear, June flew by, and we’re already into the second week of July! I am happy, though, because it means we’re that much closer to the new fall TV season. Woohoo! But I’m getting ahead of myself, since there’s plenty on tonight to hold our interest. Check out our recommendations. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #2

marriedatfirstsightsmallThere’s a new channel on our TV lineup…sort of. Named the Biography Channel until today, the FYI network is rolling out a whole host of new shows, starting with my pick for tonight, Married at First Sight. Based on the hit Danish show, it’s an extreme social experiment following six people who are looking for a life-long partnership as they agree to a (crazy?) proposal: getting legally married the moment they first meet. Four specialists — sexologist, Dr. Logan Levkoff; spiritualist, Greg Epstein; psychologist, Dr. Joseph Cilona; and sociologist, Dr. Pepper Schwartz — will create what they believe are three perfect couples, based on scientific matchmaking. The couples will never meet or know each other until they walk down the aisle and see each other face to face, for the first time, when they get married. Each episode will follow the classic lifestyle stories of newlyweds — from the honeymoon, to early nesting, to other relatable events of married life. After several weeks together, each couple must make a decision: do they remain together or decide to separate?

This show seems insane and a recipe for a messy disaster (both in their lives and on our TVs), but I can’t help but want to watch. Color me intrigued. *shrug* Before tonight’s premiere, there’s a one-hour casting special.

On tonight’s 90-minute premiere, “Matchmaking,” a team of relationship experts is tasked with creating three ideal couples from a group of six singles, and once the matches are made, the couples must prepare for their weddings without knowing anything about the person they are going to marry.

See the start of this crazy relationship ride tonight on FYI at 8/7c for the special and 9/8c for the premiere.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/6/14

Ahh, Sunday. My old nemesis. I love it because it’s still the weekend and it means the start of a new week for TV, but it also means that Monday is just around the corner. To console myself, I plan to watch some great TV. Check out our recommendations for what you could be watching, too. 😉

choppedsmallWe’ve spent the last four weeks on the Tournament of Stars for Chopped. The four amateur chefs left in the competition are soccer player Brandi Chastain, singer & Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off contestant Carnie Wilson, actress/comedienne Gillian Vigman, & actor Michael Imperioli. I enjoy watching all of them cook, although Gillian I think was my favorite. I think it’ll be Michael who pulls off the win tonight, though. He was so strong in his first round, and I think he’ll bring it even harder tonight.

On tonight’s episode, “Chopped Tournament of Stars: Finale!” the chef competitors must utilize a drive-thru snack and a cold dessert in the Appetizer Round; duck makes an appearance in the Entree Round; the remaining contestants must reckon with churros and champagne in the final round.

See who takes home the prize for their charity tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Funniest Home Videos, American Dream Builders, Food Court Wars, Believe, Catch a Contractor, Crisis, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/16/14

Oh my gosh. I think Colin Mochrie may be the funniest man on TV. We watched the Colin & Brad: Two Man Group special on Saturday night while we were eating dinner. I took a drink at an unfortunate spot and literally did a spit take all over the table and beyond at a joke about asthmatic fish. It went up my nose and everything. Kind of awesome. LOL Anyway, nothing that funny on tonight, but we do have a few shows we’re recommending, so check them out. 🙂

choppedsmallRight now, Chopped is running their Tournament of Stars. Last week featured sports stars Greg Louganis, Jackie Joyner-Kersee (the actual JJK, not the character on The Neighbors 😉 ), Charles Oakley, & Brandi Chastain. Jackie went home first, then Charles, leaving Greg and Brandi in the dessert round. Greg made ginger ice cream, while Brandi made ice box cake, and she took home the win to send her into the next round of the tournament. This week’s chefs feature four great Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off contestants, and since I’ve watched every episode of that, I’m very excited!

On tonight’s episode, “Rachael vs. Guy,” Coolio, Lou Diamond Phillips, Penn Jillette, and Carnie Wilson have to deal with beef tongue and microwaveable chocolate cake in the appetizer round, leftover slices of pizza in the entree round, and chocolate bars and banana chips in the dessert round.

Find out who goes home the winner tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Buy This Restaurant, America’s Funniest Home Videos, Food Court Wars, Believe, Resurrection, Catch a Contractor, Crisis, Cutthroat Kitchen, & The Mentalist.
