If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/29/12

Whoever said that weekends were for rest didn’t have kids! It’s been one thing after another; however, I did get a great trip to IKEA. I love that store. 🙂 It’s like a happy drug, I swear. Of course, the thing that makes me happiest is new television, so let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

I have noticed a few of my fellow TV journalists being on the fence lately about their love of Once Upon a Time. Well, that’s not me. This girl is over the fence and standing far on the side of LOVING this show. Every week, I find myself pulled deeper and deeper into their world. I was squealing like a school girl when Mary Margaret and David kissed last week. It was amazingly hot. Unfortunately, if the mayor (aka Evil Queen) has anything to say, there is going to be nothing but drama.

On tonight’s episode, “Fruit of the Poisonous Tree,” a dejected Sidney enlists the aid of Emma to help uncover evidence that could expose Mayor Regina as the corrupt person she really is to the townspeople of Storybrooke; and Mary Margaret and David continue their secret rendezvous while trying to figure out a way to unleash their unrequited love. Meanwhile, back in the fairytale land that was, King Leopold (Richard Schiff, The West Wing), who is the father of Snow White and married to the Evil Queen, stumbles upon a magic lamp and is granted three wishes by a Genie – who warns the king to be careful what he wishes for.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/9/11

Tomorrow is our Canadian Thanksgiving, but today is the day my family is having our dinner. I plan on being full of turkey, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie—and sleepy. My grand plan is to enjoy dinner, and then sit back and enjoy some great television, because tonight is full of it! Let’s take a look at what you should be watching.

Megan’s Choice

Luckily, my choice tonight isn’t affected by the baseball finals that are on…I hate baseball. Tonight, I think you should be watching The Amazing Race, because after all these seasons, it still manages to deliver. I’ve been enjoying how they have been mixing it up this season, especially the double elimination. Ethan and Jenna, as well as Ron and Bill, were eliminated. It was like my dreams came true—both of those teams annoyed me. 🙂 Although the thing that was making me the most nuts was when people were losing out because they didn’t read the instructions on the sign. After that many years of watching The Amazing Race, people should know to always read EVERYTHING.

On tonight’s episode, “Don’t Lay Down on Me Now,” the race continues in Indonesia, where a mechanical problem leaves one team sidelined. Meanwhile, a confusing roadblock at an 8th Century Buddhist temple causes two rival duos to join forces to figure out the difficult mental challenge.

Also, don’t forget to record the CBS block of shows long because of football!

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/25/11

I can’t believe that September is almost over! In fact, I can’t believe that my baby boy, Pherson, is 6 months old today. It still seems like just yesterday that I had him, but now, he’s trying to crawl, eating solids, and getting more personality daily. Before I know it, he’s going to be walking and talking. Eek!

Tonight starts another new week of television, and it’s even busier than last week. Hold on to your remotes and get your DVRs programmed, because this week is a not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Let’s see why tonight is…

It’s that time of year again, when teams of two get together to race around the world! In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s time for the 19th season premiere of The Amazing Race. This season, we have a team of Survivor alumni racing—Ethan and Jenna. There’s also a father/son team of Laurence and Zac, with Zac being the youngest guy to sail around the world. It looks like it’s going to be another great season. [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

Tonight, the teams set off for a new global adventure as they depart for Taipei, Taiwan. Plus, one team’s position in the game is put in serious jeopardy when they lose their passport less than an hour into the Race.

To get this season started and pick your favorite team, tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Amazing Race @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/8/11

We’re right in the middle of May sweeps, and man, things are heating up! There are finales left and right this week, and those that aren’t finishing their season this week (like Bones, etc), have BIG episodes. Megan left EARLY this morning to go out of town to visit family. Lucky for us, though, she spent some time writing up her thoughts on what you should watch each night so I can post them for her. Everyone wish her a happy vacation! 🙂 To help out this week, since it’s a crazy week, Lisa & I will be doing multiple shows each night, and her sister, Jamie, is also going to be joining us again. Yay! Now, let’s see what we all think you should watch tonight!

Jenny’s Choice #1

My first pick tonight is the new episode of Breakout Kings on A&E at 10/9c. I can’t say enough good things about this show. My enjoyment of the characters and the storylines grow each week. It’s a serious show, but there are several lighter moments each episode to counter balance the heavier stuff. It’s becoming a show I look forward to more and more as the season goes on, and I hope A&E renews it, because it’s very deserving of another season.

My favorite character has to be Lloyd, played by Jimmi Simpson, the genius with a 210 IQ, who graduated high school at 12, college at 16, & med school at 20. He was a successful psychiatrist & published professor in the field of Human Behavior Analysis. He was so smart, he turned to something that he was sure would be more challenging to him: gambling. It spiraled out of control and led him to a 25 year prison sentence. He is the stereotypical genius, with horribly awkward social skills and is just damn fun to watch.

My other favorite character is Erica, played by Serinda Swan (who guest starred on last week’s Hawaii Five-0 as the pregnant model!). Growing up, Erica’s father, a skilled bounty hunter, captured a notorious criminal. From prison, the con ordered a hit on Erica’s father. Five thugs beat him to death. Enraged, Erica tracked and killed each of the thugs one by one, which is why she is in prison. She’s got a volatile temper, which she has to work hard at keeping in check, but she does, because if she slips, she won’t be able to gain an early release to become a mother again to her 6 year old daughter. She’s snarky, but she’s damn good at tracking, and I love her. The rest of the cast is fantastic, too, but Lloyd & Erica are my faves!

On tonight’s episode, a contract killer escapes from prison and immediately begins taking care of many of his unfinished clients, so the team must decipher the common thread connecting all of his victims in an effort to find him and bring him to justice.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/27/11

It’s the first day of the new week of television, but it’s a VERY slow night, due to the Oscars tonight. Lisa is sitting tonight out, while Megan and I tell you what we think you should be watching tonight. 😉

Jenny’s Choice

The Amazing Race started out it’s new season last week with a bang, and my favorites, the cowboys, are on the chopping block, so to speak. The aren’t playing nearly as well as they did the first time around, and it makes me very sad. 🙁 On the other hand, other teams I like are doing well, so it’s kind of a mixed bag for me at this point. Last episode was a cliffhanger of sorts, leaving us mid-way through the first elimination leg.

On tonight’s episode, the teams are dressed as kangaroos as they continue through Australia, where one racer reverts back to their old habits as tempers begin to flare up. A team breaks down in tears from the utter exhaustion, which could potentially end their race.
