If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/15/14

Happy Father’s Day to all the men out there today—and also to the moms who wear both hats! I hope your day is filled with whatever makes you the happiest and that you enjoy your family time. To finish off your day, let’s see what we’re recommending tonight.

Megan’s Choice

cutthroatkitchensmallCutthroat Kitchen combines cooking, competition, and my favorite part: sabotage. I’m not sure what is more fun… Watching someone sabotage someone who has been sabotaging them the whole time, or watching the underdog who kept getting sabotaged end up with a spectacular dish. As a chef, there are some things that are really important, like heat, utensils, and knives. Well, in this show, those things could be taken away and replaced with all sorts of crazy stuff, like making your own utensils out of aluminum foil! I think every cook on here should practice before coming on the show with creative ways to cut without a knife. Personally, I love when they use the blade from the food processor, because that would be my first thought, too. What’s your favorite sabotage?

On tonight’s episode, “Panini, Meeny, Miny, Moe,” one chef is forced to perform a balancing act while they cook chicken pot pie. A childhood rhyme turns into one chef’s nightmare, and one chef must spring into action to save their cheesecake.

To see what craziness ensues on this episode, tune in to Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Game of Thrones, Drop Dead Diva, Guy’s Grocery Games, and Food Network Star.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/1/14

I hope you had a good break last week, because there’s a lot more on this week. Not as busy as it will be, but still a lot on. As I write this up, I’m watching Chow Masters and waiting for my husband to get home with drinks from Sonic. It’s been a good weekend so far. 🙂 Kyle’s power was out for 5 hours tonight (Saturday night), so he’s skipping the Remote. Megan & I are here to give you our recommendations, though, so check ’em out. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice #1

foodnetworkstar2013smallMy first pick tonight is the season premiere of Food Network Star. It’s no secret that I love cooking competition shows, and this is one of the great ones. Twelve contestants join mentors Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis, and Bobby Flay to compete in challenges designed to whittle the list down to the top spot, which will earn them their own show on Food Network. I love this show because there’s usually a wide variety of talent and personalities, and sometimes, those personalities clash, making it quite exciting. *laugh*

On tonight’s episode, “Hollywood Calling,” the mentors help prepare the finalists for their big debut at a Hollywood Premier Party, where each contestant must prepare and present one party appetizer to Food Network executives Bob Tuschman and Susie Fogelson, as well as Hollywood insiders, including E!’s Ross Mathews, who help decide which contestants have a shot at becoming a Food Network Star. One finalist’s dream ends here, and the remaining 11 continue their Star journey.

Meet the twelve contestants and pick your favorite tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/9/14

Last week was incredibly long for me. My kid was off school Tues-Thurs for snow days and again Friday for parent/teacher conferences. Then he spent all Saturday in the house, working on make-up work for school that didn’t get turned in for one reason or another. So yeah, needless to say, I’m ready to be back to a normal schedule! There’s not a lot of new TV on this week because of the Olympics, but we do have a few recommendations. 🙂

choppedsmallI love watching Chopped. Chefs have a reputation for being arrogant and rude, and that is definitely true sometimes on this show. But then there are times when we get a nice chef, or a strong competitor who isn’t an ass, and I especially love seeing chefs like that win. Last episode featured four home cooks all competing to win the money and top spot. That was a lot of fun because in addition to the normal Chopped stresses, these cooks weren’t used to competing like they had to.

On tonight’s episode, “All-Burger Meal!” the chefs learn that they will be making hamburgers, in some shape or form, for every round, starting with veal burgers for appetizers. Then in the entree round a little quail egg causes a big headache for some of the competitors. And who’s ever heard of a dessert burger?

See who can pull off a yummy dessert burger and win the prize tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/25/13

Back to school shopping is exhausting—not to mention expensive. I feel like I’ve run a marathon getting ready to send the kids back to school, but boy am I ready for that day. Tonight, I’m going to soak my feet and relax after a day of errands and planning; so while I do that, let’s see what you should be watching.

cutthroatkitchensmallCutthroat Kitchen has quickly become a fun family show to watch. My teenage son and I love watching cooking shows together, and we are both loving this. There’s the cooking aspect, but the sabotage and competition are very interesting. Overall, if you love cooking shows but you also love a little bit of reality TV hype, you should definitely tune in to this.

On tonight’s episode, “Tac’o the Town,” the chefs are forced to make tacos with bologna; the chefs try to derail each other’s Eggs Benedict.

To see how these chefs can make the bologna taste good in a taco, tune in to Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Unforgettable and Family Dance Off.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/11/13

I know, I’m running late this morning posting this. Blame life. 😉 Sick kid, horrible sleeping (me, not the kid), and that just means a slow Jenny in the morning. But we’re here now and ready to give you our opinions on what to watch during a full night of new TV. So read on! 😀

foodnetworkstar2013smallI have to go with the season finale of Food Network Star. Last week, Stacey got sent home, which I felt was a mistake, since she’d have been better than either of the two guys left in the competition. I know she wasn’t perfect—she had problems sounding and acting non-rehearsed during camera challenges—but when she got it right, she got it REALLY right. And I know I’d have preferred her show above either Rodney or Russell. Rodney’s constant “pie style” is rather grating on the ears (once or twice is fine, but I hear it way more than I should), and the same goes for Russell’s “culinary sins” bit. I will admit that their pilot presentations were better than I’d thought they would be…but to that end, Damaris knocked it out of the park for me. It was the most I’d enjoyed her the entire competition. I could tell she was doing what she really enjoyed. If she doesn’t win this thing tonight, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle. 😉

On tonight’s season finale, “America Picks a Star,” the results are in as America has voted to determine who will be the next Food Network Star. Before the winner is revealed, the finalists are back in the studio to tell all and view never-before-seen footage from the season. Bobby, Alton, and Giada each share their favorite moments during an emotional look back at remaining finalists’ journey to the finale. Then, suspense rises as the time comes to reveal who will walk away as the new Food Network Star.

Find out who wins tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Court Wars, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America (I don’t like Food Network at ALL, do I? LOL), Unforgettable, Whodunnit?, Brother vs Brother, & Crossing Lines.
