If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/24/11

It’s Sunday, which means it’s still part of the weekend. I hope your weekend has been better than mine so far, though! I realized yesterday, one of my upper molars was crumbling, and went to a dentist that I was lucky enough to find open on a Saturday. After taking 6 x-rays (2 on the wrong side… I thought it was weird, but figured they were taking both sides! lol and then a lower and 3 on the upper—because the first 2 didn’t get far enough back!), he came in and said, “Sure enough, it’s infected. We can either take it out or fix it so you can keep the tooth.” I was like, “Well, yeah, I want to keep my tooth! I’m only 34! I’m not old enough to start losing my teeth!” Turns out, that means a root canal… Oh. Fun… lol

So that’s what I have to look forward to on Tuesday. I’m worried about the procedure and recovery, sure (although I’ve been told it’s really not that bad now compared to what it used to be, and I already have a script for some good meds if I need them…), but mainly, I’m worried about the cost. We have some dental insurance, but it only covers 50%. So on top of back to school stuff for my son and tags & taxes on our car, we now have possibly another grand to pay for this damn dental stuff. *sigh* So not a fun weekend!

Megan and Kyle are still in San Diego at Comic-Con, so both of them are taking the first few days of this week off. Lisa & I will be covering some, but for their recommendations, I’ll just list em. I don’t have the time or energy to write up everything myself right now! lol Now, let’s see what’s on tonight to keep my mind occupied, shall we?

Jenny’s Choice #1

Falling Skies is a show that not only myself, but also Kyle want to recommend. Last week’s “Sanctuary Pt. 1” was fantastic. We got some scary insight from Ben into the skitters, and I don’t know about you, but I’m worried there’s something wrong with him. Physically, of course, but also mentally. I’m worried he developed a case of Stockholm Syndrome or something, and that at the first opportunity, he’ll “willingly” go back to them. Whether it’s because of whatever he was drugged with, or some sort of brainwashing, I don’t know. But something isn’t right, and I’m worried that could lead to a lot of pain for Tom and his other sons. We also saw the kids from 2nd Mass go off with the guy from 7th Mass, supposedly to get away before the aliens found their hideout. But then we learned that the guy in charge of 7th Mass is providing the skitters with kids. I have my own theories—like he’s giving them kids from other groups so the skitters don’t take kids from his own—but I’d love to hear what you think! We also learned that Pope is alive and…well, not necessarily WELL, but alive, at any rate. The leader of 7th Mass is holding him prisoner, and Pope is the one that gave up 2nd Mass’ position and told him they were rescuing kids. Tonight is the conclusion to this 2-part episode, and from everything I’ve read, it’s far from a disappointment!

On tonight’s episode, “Sanctuary Pt. 2,” Hal and the other youth that have sought refuge at the farm begin to suspect that the security that has lured them there is only a temporary facade with a terrible hidden horror lurking behind its humble and gentle appeal.

Tune it to TNT at 10/9c to see if Hal can lead the group to safety. Learn where to find episodes online of Falling Skies @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/17/11

It’s the beginning of another great week on television, but it’s also the beginning of the week that I go to Comic-Con (and Kyle, too!). I’ll be leaving in two short sleeps and heading out to San Diego. At this point, I’m excited, nervous, and anxious, especially about leaving my kids for almost a week. There’s no doubt they’ll be okay, and the time will probably fly by, but I’m anxious nonetheless.

Enough about my separation issues. Let’s talk about what’s on TV tonight, and why you should be watching it.

I don’t know about you, but for me, True Blood has just been getting more and more delicious every week. Whether it’s Layfayette’s crazy suicide mission last week, or the sexy Eric sleeping in Sookie’s house, it’s all fabulous. I do have to say, though, that the creepy baby scenes are a bit much for me, I’ve never been able to handle storylines that insinuate that the child is evil, even if they turn out not to be. It’s all just too disturbing for my liking.

On another note, how great is to have the sexy Joe Manganiello back as the werewolf Alcide. Yum.

Tonight’s episode finds Alcide joining Sookie in her search for Eric. Marnie needs help breaking a spell. Bill finds something in common with the Bellefleurs. Jason pleads for his freedom from Hotshot, and Sam tries to learn more about Luna and Tommy gets back to his roots.

I just have to get through the next 9 days, and I’ll be on a plane to San Diego, getting ready to cover Comic-Con. It’s going to be a lot of fun, but it’s also an easy whirlwind of activity. Another exciting note is that it’s my birthday on the 19th, so Happy Birthday to me! A trip to San Diego, to see some of my favorite television stars. 🙂 Oh happy days! Enough about me. Let’s talk about this insanely busy week of television shall we?

You know what show is deliciously addictive? True Blood, of course. It doesn’t matter how many episodes I see of this show, or the fact that the show is not exactly like the books, I’m in love. The first two episodes of this season have been amazing, and I can’t help but want MORE.

On tonight’s episode, Eric and Sookie work out an agreement, while Bill renders advice and guidance to Jessica. Meanwhile, Jason becomes the hero, and Tommy, once again, becomes estranged from Sam. Pam instructs Lafayette that if demands aren’t met, retaliation may be in order. Marnie sets out to give her new powers a try. Eric upsets a get-together.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/3/11

I can’t believe it’s July already, and only 17 days until preview night at Comic-Con! I’m getting super excited to go again this year. This week of television is going to bring us lots of goodies, so let’s get started with what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

Last week’s season 4 premiere of True Blood was pretty intense, especially with the one year time jump. I can’t believe all the changes that have taken place in Bon Temps in a year, and I hope we get some answers quickly. At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like the whole time warp thing, but I have to say, I think it’s going to really spice up this season and give the writers a lot of new places to go from. If you didn’t see last week’s episode and want to get caught up before tonight, you can read my recap and review here.

On tonight’s episode, Sookie reunites with Tara and seeks a solution to a vexing real-estate problem. Meanwhile, Bill flashes back to his past and informs Eric of a local coven whose recent experiments could become a problem for the vampire community.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/26/11

Well, it’s the start of another week, and it really is going to be a great week of TV. TV is beginning to amp up in terms of how much new stuff is on, so since Kyle did such a great job last week with the Remote posts, I asked if he’d join us on a permanent basis. He accepted, so everyone welcome him back by commenting below and saying hello! Now, on to what we think you should be watching tonight!

Jenny’s Choice #1

Last week’s series premiere of Falling Skies was an instant hit for myself and my family. It was the perfect combination of action/science fiction and personal/human interest. We honestly came away from it without anything negative to say, except that we wished we could watch the next episode right away. That doesn’t happen very often. It’s because of those reasons that it is my first pick tonight. If you don’t remember what it’s about, here’s a quick recap: Set six months after an alien invasion, a group of survivors band together to form a resistance against the aliens, which have overtaken Earth. One of the leaders of the resistance is series star Noah Wyle (ER), whose wife was killed in the invasion and whose middle son was taken by the aliens. Tom is becoming friends with (and it will most likely lead into a romantic relationship with) Dr. Anne Gless, played by other series star, Moon Bloodgood (Terminator: Salvation). At the end of last week’s premiere, Tom, his oldest son, and a small group of fighters began preparing to go find Ben, the teenager captured and being held and used by the aliens.

On tonight’s episode, a doctor (guest star Steven Weber, Happy Town, Brothers & Sisters, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Wings) joins the 2nd Mass with a theory about what might save the teenagers abducted by the aliens. But the plan could be derailed when Tom starts digging for answers to questions that have haunted him since the early days of the invasion. The 2nd Mass comes face-to-face with skitters and mechs when they attempt to rescue Ben.
