If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/15/12

It’s Sunday, and I’m kind of glad, because it means another great, full week of new TV. So to start our your week, check out what we think you should be watching tonight! 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

I’m so excited because tonight is the season premiere of Leverage. This show is so good and always a lot of fun to watch. If you don’t know the premise (and beginning its fifth season, I don’t know why you wouldn’t, but I’ll give it to you just in case. 😉 ), it’s about a group of thieves, con artists, and grifters who have (mostly lol) turned their lives around and use their skills to help people who need it and have nowhere else to turn. The team is led by Nate Ford (Timothy Hutton), who used to be an insurance investigator until insurance wouldn’t pay for his son to have a life-saving treatment and his little boy died. He became an alcoholic and is, for the most part, a functioning alcoholic still. The team consists of Sophie Devereaux (Gina Bellman), a brilliant grifter; Eliot Spencer (Christian Kane), a retrieval specialist; Alec Hardison (Aldis Hodge), a gadget and technology wizard; and Parker (Beth Riesgraf), a slightly off-center thief adept at rappelling off buildings. Nate and Sophie had a relationship in the past and are currently in what they believe is a secret relationship again…and one of the cutest non-couple couples on TV (leaning toward being a couple, especially this season) are Hardison and Parker. They are just too cute together.

Last season finale, the group faced off against Victor, the man who was the reason they all got together in the first episode of the series…and the man who killed Nate’s father earlier in the season. With the help of each of their nemises, the group took down two bad guys and got back on a more even keel. This show is a great mix of fun, interesting cases and some great personal stuff, but the main focus is definitely the cases. If you haven’t seen it before, I urge you to watch.

On tonight’s premiere, “The Big Bird Job,” the team decides to go after a shipping CEO who was responsible for a plane crash. They carefully plot to expose him for the dishonest person he is by tricking him into purchasing a massive plane before a merger.

Catch it tonight on TNT at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Leverage @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, Falling Skies, The Glades, Food Network Star, The Great Escape, 3 Days to Open with Bobby Flay, & Longmire.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/8/12

It’s the start of a new week…and I am starting it with a broken laptop. My down arrow key popped off last night, and we can’t get it back on. My husband is going to take another look tomorrow when he’s more awake, but…I’m going to be REALLY pissed off if I have to send it in and get it replaced, cause we just don’t have the money for that. BAH! Still, some great stuff on tonight, so at least there’s that!

Jenny’s Choice #1

I’m a huge fan of John Grisham’s books, and one of my favorite movies is The Firm. So when I heard it was coming to television, I was thrilled. It’s not a remake of the book/movie, which is kind of what makes it even more interesting. The show continues the story of attorney Mitchell McDeere and his family 10 years after the events of the film and novel. As a young associate, McDeere brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini, Lambert, & Locke, which operated as a front for the Chicago mob – and his life was never the same. After a difficult decade, which included a stay in the Federal Witness Protection program, Mitch (Josh Lucas, J. Edgar), his wife Abby (Molly Parker, Deadwood), and daughter Claire (Natasha Calis, The Possession) now emerge from isolation to reclaim their lives and their future – only to find that past dangers are still lurking and new threats are everywhere. The show also stars Callum Keith Rennie (The Killing), Juliette Lewis (Cape Fear), Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), & Shaun Majumder (Detroit 1-8-7).

Check out the 2-hour series premiere tonight on NBC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Firm @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/1/12

Happy New Year! It’s the first day of 2012, and I don’t know about you, but I hope this year is better than 2011 was! Between job issues, school issues, and family drama, 2011 was a LONG year for my family! One thing that didn’t disappoint was all the great TV. Hopefully the new TV we get starting tonight will be as good or better. To see how the year will start out, check it out!

When I saw the first commercial for Food Network’s latest cooking competition, I actually squealed and bounced in my seat. I absolutely LOVE Guy Fieri, and I watch Rachael Ray all the damn time, so combine the two of them into Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off, and Jenny is a happy camper.

In this six-episode competition series, Rachael and Guy will each serve as coaches and mentors to eight multi-talented celebrities, all of whom are passionate about food and cooking. Divided into “Team Rachael” and “Team Guy,” each episode features celebrity contestants battling it out in a fun, fast-paced culinary fight-to-the-finish, with the two bottom-rated contestants from the losing team going head-to-head in a blind tasting elimination challenge. In the end, the last contestant standing is crowned king or queen of the Celebrity Cook-Off and wins $50,000 for the charity they are playing to support. Contestants include Alyssa Campanella (the current Miss USA), actors Cheech Marin and Lou Diamond Phillips, singers Aaron Carter, Coolio, Joey Fatone, and Taylor Dane, and Olympic gold medalist swimmer Summer Sanders.

I’m not sure yet who I’m rooting for, but I saw Joey Fatone and Lou Diamond Phillips on Rachael’s daytime show the other day, and they were both a lot of fun, so as of right now, they are my top two picks. Who do you think will be fun to watch? Comment below and let me know! Also, be sure and check out Iron Chef America tonight, where Iron Chef Bobby Flay pairs up with Marcela Valladolid, who appears on Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy, and Iron Chef Masuhara Morimoto is paired with Andrew Zimmern, of Travel Channel’s Bizarre Foods. Judges are Penn Jillette, Donatella Arpaia Stewart, and Simon Majumdar. That should be a FUN episode, too!

Check it out tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/25/11

Merry Christmas to those who celebrate, and Happy Holidays to those who don’t! It may be Christmas, but there are a couple of noteworthy things on, so Kyle & I wanted to make sure you were aware! I’m not listing it, but if you are a fan of The Next Iron Chef, Geoffrey Zakarian, who won last week, is competing for the first time as an Iron Chef tonight on Food Network at a special time of 9/8c. Now, here’s what we think you should be watching tonight with your family!

Leverage is one of those shows that rarely disappoints me. I enjoy seeing Nate & his gang work to take down the bad guys and help the wronged party get what they deserve. The last couple of episodes were fun, because we got to see the girls as the main focus two weeks ago, and then last week, we caught the boys’ side of things. It was interesting putting together the two episodes in my head into one big episode. For the last season and a half, especialy, we’ve seen relationships grow and change. Parker and Hardison are quickly becoming the couple you can’t help but love and root for. Nate and Sophie, on the other hand, have had a bumpy ride. He needs to figure out what he wants and she needs to figure out if she can handle Nate as a functioning alcoholic who has a rough history he isn’t quite over.

On tonight’s episode, “The Lonely Hearts Job,” while searching for a philanthropist’s missing wife, the team comes up against a grifter ring running a web of sophisticated Sweetheart Scams.” Now, Nate must learn how to steal hearts… or risk losing Sophie’s for good.
