If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/30/13

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I actually had trouble finding some things to watch a couple of nights this week—the problem was most of the stuff I watch didn’t start until 10pm. Why can’t they do a better job of spreading my shows out across the night?! 🙂 I’m not going to say I wish there was more on, because that wish will definitely come true soon—I’ll gladly take a few slow nights to rest up before the summer TV madness that is to come! 🙂

rookieblue530smallLast week, Rookie Blue returned for the fourth season. Andy and Nick were just finishing up their six-month undercover operation, and we learned that the two had hooked up in the process. When the operation hit a snag, Andy called Sam to come in and save the day, reuniting the two who hadn’t had any contact since the operation began. Afterwards, Andy discovered that Sam had moved on while she was away and was now dating the new training officer, Marlo. Meanwhile, Diaz had moved his son and girlfriend into the apartment with Dov, but when he received a letter telling him he could transfer to his hometown department, he had a new decision to make.

I really enjoyed the action-packed premiere, and I was beyond thrilled to see that Sam and Andy had remained broken up and that there might be a chance (albeit slim) of one or both of them moving on. It is probably the unpopular opinion, but I really wished they had killed off Sam at the end of season two—I don’t know what it is, but I just don’t like him. Sadly, I have a feeling the writers’ ultimate goal is to have Sam and Andy end up together, so in the meantime, I’ll just savor this separation. There was no sign of Luke last week—I really liked him and Andy together in the first season (before the writers did a 180 and turned him into a cheating dirtbag). Last season, Luke seemed to be redeeming himself, so I still hold out hope (no matter how futile) for those two to get back together. 🙂 I’m having flashbacks of Dawson’s Creek, where I seemed to be the only person who thought Joey should have ended up with Dawson!

On tonight’s episode, “Homecoming,” Andy investigates a bank robbery with Swarek. Meanwhile, Nick and Gail help a distraught woman; and Frank drops a bombshell on Noelle.

To see what news Frank gives Noelle, tune in to ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Save Me, Hannibal, Hell’s Kitchen, Does Someone Have to Go?, Chopped, Giving You the Business, Men at Work, and Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/16/13

This has been a super busy week for TV news, with all the networks announcing their new fall shows and schedules. While there’s a bunch of stuff that looks great, there’s also quite a few other new shows that I can’t believe they thought were better than the stuff they decided not to renew. And speaking of things ending—there are at least eight shows having season/series finales tonight, so here’s what we recommend you check out tonight…

theoffice516smallAfter 9 seasons, the US version of The Office finally comes to an end. It’s pretty amazing that the show has lasted this long, seing as the original UK show only ran for a total of 15 episodes! I loved last week’s episode—it was a return to that great mix of fun and heartwarming drama of the early years of the show. Jim assured Pam that he didn’t regret his choice of staying with her in Scranton, Dwight proposed to Angela, and Angela revealed that Dwight was actually the father of her baby.

Tonight, it all comes to an end with Dwight and Angela’s wedding and a look at the characters’ lives once the documentary has aired. So who will return—and will Michael Scott make an appearance? I would think you couldn’t have a finale of this show without having him back (despite the producers saying he wouldn’t be)! I can’t wait to see how it all comes to a close on tonight’s super-sized 75-minute episode. Plus, I’m also really looking forward to re-living the past nine years with the hour-long retrospective special that airs before the finale.

Tonight’s special, “The Office Retrospective,” features interviews with the show’s writers, producers, and actors, including John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, Mindy Kaling, and Paul Lieberstein. Also: a look inside the writers’ room; actor auditions; and favorite moments.

Then, on “Finale,” past and present staffers gather for a wedding and their closing interview sessions in the series finale. Appearing: Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak, Joan Cusack, Ed Begley Jr., Rachael Harris, Dakota Johnson, Andy Buckley, and Malcolm Barrett.

Tonight’s special starts at 8/7c on NBC, followed by the 75-minute series finale at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Hannibal, Giving You the Business, Men at Work, and Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/18/13

Is it the weekend yet?! It may be school vacation week here in Massachusetts, but that means nothing for me. I’m ready for this week to be over—with work and that horrible Boston Marathon disaster (fortunately, I was not personally impacted). To help you relax and start thinking about the weekend, we’ve got some suggestions on what to check out on TV tonight.

yourprettyfaceisgoingtohellsmallTonight at midnight, Adult Swim kicks off a new quarter-hour live-action series Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell. It is a workplace comedy set in Hell. Gary, an associate demon, wants to climb the underworld corporate ladder. However, he may just not be cut out for the job of capturing souls on Earth. On the other hand, his intern Claude will do whatever it takes to impress Satan. The series stars Matt Servitto (Banshee), Henry Zebrowski (Wolf of Wall Street), and Craig Rowin (Night of Too Many Stars).

If there’s something you can always count on from Adult Swim, it’s bizarre, humorous shows. I always find it amazing how much they manage to pack into each episode in only half the amount of time as a normal sitcom. I’m looking forward to checking out tonight’s premiere to see if this is a show I want to spend eternity with.

On tonight’s episode, “Welcome to Hell,” demon Gary and his intern, Claude, meet with a pro baseball player to convince him to thank the devil for his success on the field.

See how this hellish comedy begins tonight on Adult Swim (Comedy Central) at 11:59/10:59c. Learn where to find episodes online of Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording Community, Parks and Recreation, Hannibal, Glee, Men at Work, The Graham Norton Show, and Nathan for You.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/11/13

This has been such a hectic week, and I can’t wait for it to be over. Although, there won’t be much rest for me this weekend, as my brother is getting married on Saturday and we have a rehearsal dinner tomorrow night. But as for tonight, there lots of great TV to choose from, including the season finales of Go On, Archer, and Legit. In addition to those, we’ve got a couple of other suggestions for you to check out.

grahamnortonshowsmallI never get to recommend The Graham Norton Show because it has always aired on Saturday nights. However, for it’s thirteenth season, BBC America has moved the series into primetime. This UK talk show is hosted by an outrageous Irishman with a saucy sense of humor. Whether it’s current events, the latest projects his guests are working on, and whatever else comes to mind, Graham, his guests, and his audience always have a lot of fun. What I particularly like about this series is that all of the guests are on the couch at the same time, rather than having them on one at a time. It’s great to see the guests getting a chance to interact with one another as well.

On tonight’s episode, Graham’s guests are Tom Cruise, Gerard Butler, and Olga Kurylenko. Also: Paramore performs.

Check out the show’s new primetime slot on BBC America at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Graham Norton Show @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Go On, Hannibal, Glee, Archer, Legit, Tabatha Takes Over, Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell, Men at Work, and Nathan for You.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/4/13

I can’t believe it’s already Thursday! I’m really enjoying the lighter TV schedule we’ve been having lately—it has given me a chance to actually catch up on most of my shows! But even with there being a lot of reruns, I haven’t found primetime lacking in viewing options. Tonight, there’s lots of great stuff on, and we’ve got some suggestions on what you should watch.

hannibalasmallTonight, everyone’s favorite cannibalistic psychopath makes his way to the small screen in the new NBC series Hannibal. The show follows Will Graham (Hugh Dancy), a criminal profiler working for the FBI, whose remarkable emphatic skills allow him to get into the mind of the killers he pursues. Assisting him is the brilliant Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen)—but Graham doesn’t know about Lecter’s dark side.

Silence of the Lambs is one of my favorite films, and I also really enjoyed the Hannibal Lecter origins film, Hannibal Rising. So I’m really looking forward to seeing this latest take on the earlier years of this ultimate serial killer. Add to that the fact that the series is executive produced by Bryan Fuller—who always adds a unique, beautiful look to all of his projects—and I can’t wait to see tonight’s premiere!

On tonight’s episode, “Apéritif,” a gifted criminal profiler teams with a cunning psychiatrist to solve a string of brutal murders. Based on the characters from Thomas Harris’s novels. Laurence Fishburne also stars.

See how it all starts tonight on NBC at 10:01/9:01c. Learn where to find episodes online of Hannibal @ TV.com.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Go On, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Archer, Legit, Men at Work and Nathan for You.
