If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/3/14

Christmas lights are up (inside—we don’t do outside lights because we live in a triplex), most of our Christmas presents are bought (still need niece & nephew), and next is making up the shopping list for food and placing an order for turkey & pies. I’m totally gearing up for Christmas. Woohoo! But all that’s exhausting, so I’ll be glad to relax to some great TV tonight. Check out our recommendations so you know what to watch when you do the same.

Jenny’s Choice

thegoldbergs123smallI’m so happy to have a new episode of The Goldbergs tonight. The last new ep was Thanksgiving, which was great. Erica wanted to skip the family tradition of cooking with Beverly, which of course her mother was against. They made a bet that Erica couldn’t keep up with Beverly’s Jazzercise class, and Beverly was shocked when Erica won. In the end, Erica helped her mom when she figured out why it was so important to Beverly, and the family had a great meal. I did love when Murray’s brother stopped by with pagers for the boys. *laugh* Anyone else remember pagers? Oh my word…

This show really cracks me up every week and takes me back to some fond (and not-so-fond) memories of when I was growing up. It’s by far one of my most favorite comedies on TV right now.

On tonight’s episode, “I Rode a Hoverboard,” Adam breaks his arm and exaggerates at school that he fell off of a hover board just like in the Back to the Future movie. But the lie threatens his friendship with Emmy Mirsky. Meanwhile, the family falls in love with the new Chinese restaurant in town, and Beverly fears she’s being replaced in the kitchen.

Find out how Beverly wins her family’s love & devotion back tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, black-ish, Modern Family, Hot in Cleveland, Kitchen Inferno, Top Chef, & The Exes.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/5/14

Ahh, it’s finally Wednesday! My kid’s been gone on a family trip to Disney World in Florida since early Friday morning. I’ll be so glad to have him home today! But enough about me… Check out what we’re recommending for tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

hotincleveland115smallI’m doing a dual pick tonight, with the season premieres of Hot in Cleveland & The Exes. Last season, the women in Cleveland celebrated their collective birthdays, and per tradition, they set one another up on blind dates. Melanie’s date ended up together with his sex therapist, who he’d started seeing in order to be ready to date Melanie, but along the way, they fell for each other. Victoria’s date (Luke Perry) was growing body parts (noses and…who knows what else) for other people on his body. And Joy was proposed to…by Simon, Mitch, & Bob. But the season ended when she was accidently knocked unconscious and then spirited away to the hospital, before she could announce her decision. And while waiting for her, Elka was shocked when Max walked by! Meanwhile, on the season finale of The Exes, Phil and Nicki were about to sleep together but changed their minds, and Haskell, thinking he had to interrupt and tell Phil about his feelings for her, barged in, told Phil he was in love with Nicki, and was shocked when she walked in after overhearing him.

theexes115smallSo who will Joy choose—if anyone—and what will Nicki say about Haskell’s declaration? I’m so excited for the new seasons to start tonight so I can find out!

On tonight’s Hot in Cleveland premiere, “Comfort and Joy,” Joy decides whether to marry Mitch, Simon, or Bob. Victoria’s new CGI movie proves challenging in ways she didn’t expect. Elka tries to bring film jobs to Cleveland.

Then on the premiere of The Exes, “The Devil Wears Hanes,” Holly makes an attempt at playing Cupid following Haskell’s declaration of love for Nicki; meanwhile, Stuart comes up with a plan to secretly arrange for Phil to get together with his crush from when he was in high school.

Check out the laughs tonight on TV Land at 10/9c & 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, The Mysteries of Laura, Criminal Minds, Cutthroat Kitchen, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD, Kitchen Inferno, Stalker, & Top Chef.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/30/14

We are halfway through another busy week, and I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to relaxing tonight with some great TV. A cup of tea, a cozy blanket, and a large dose of television does this girl some good, so let’s see what we’re recommending to help cure what ails us.

Megan’s Choice #1

chicagopd430smallLast night on Chicago Fire, the city of Chicago was hit with a tragic bombing, which left one of Fire Department 51’s own trapped and many other victims dead. While the chief and his firefighters continue to search for missing victims tonight, Chicago PD picks up the rest of the two-part episode to help us come to terms with the damage. We’ll see Voight and his team try to find out who is behind this horrific act and hopefully catch them before another bomb is detonated. I was most moved by Burgess’s performance on last night’s episode when she found out her niece was one of the seriously injured from the first explosion. She was so emotionally raw and compelling that it makes perfect sense why she is quickly becoming my favorite part of this police drama.

On tonight’s episode, “8:30 PM,” the Intelligence Unit works to find the bombers. Even with government agencies in the mix, Voight and his team work the case from their own angles and connections. Lindsay and Antonio question doctors who handled the transplant surgery for an ambassador from Syria, but no clues emerge. Olinsky gets some solid intel, and the team works from there. It’s a race against time as they realize there may be additional bombs targeted to detonate. Meanwhile, Burgess sits vigil for her niece, whose life hangs in the balance.

To see how this intense crossover event comes to a conclusion, tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/19/14

Happy Hump Day! We’re halfway through the week, which means it’s all downhill from here—although, not in terms of quality, because there’s still some great stuff on. Check out our recommendations. 🙂

csi319smallI’ve really enjoyed CSI this season. It’s a great mix of the cast and characters. Last week was a pretty fun episode, with guest star Gene Simmons as himself. Rock n roll wannabes could pay to become a rocker for a while, even playing with Gene Simmons. Then a groupie was murdered and a prostitute was missing. One of the latest wannabes was the suspect, but then his body turned up, too. It turned out that one of the other wannabes was jealous of the guy’s success.

On tonight’s episode, “Uninvited,” the CSIs are called to investigate when an entire family is reported to have been missing for a month.

See why the family went missing tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, Save My Bakery, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Psych, Mixology, Chicago PD, & Wahlburgers.

Our Thoughts on the CW 2013-14 Pilot Trailers

Megan, Kyle, & I have been giving our opinions on the trailers for the new fall shows. You can check out the ones we’ve already posted: ABC, CBS, NBC, & FOX. Now, we’re here to give you our opinions on the CW pilot previews.

Reign

  • Jenny: Not. My. Thing. At. All. Even less so than regular dramas. Marking as Most Likely 1 and Done…but I’m not even going to give it that much. – Most Likely 1 and Done.
  • Megan: A story about Mary Queen of Scots? I’m intrigued…but cautious. This is an astronomical story to tackle, and if they mess it up (which, frankly, The CW has a history of doing), it’ll be horrific. Don’t mess with historic figures unless you can do them justice. All that aside, the trailer looks promising and I’m mildly hopeful. – Curious.
  • Kyle: From the video, you can’t really tell what this is about. If it falls into the political Tudors-style show, then I’m excited. However, if it falls into a romance drama like most CW shows, I’ll most likely be dropping it quickly. – Curious.
