If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/23/12

Welcome to the first day of a crazy week of TV premieres. It’s a relatively slow night comparatively, but Kyle & I both still have things we think you should be watching, so read on to find out what they are. 😉

Last week’s episode of The Great Food Truck Race had me on the edge of my seat for kind of the first time this season. My vote from the beginning has been for Seoul Sausage, and they’ve been doing well enough all season that I haven’t had to worry whether or not they’ll be sent home. But they slacked off last week and kind of didn’t give it their all, especially when it was just the one chef in there alone, and it caused them to be in the bottom three. They vowed at the end that it wouldn’t happen again…and I hope it doesn’t, but if they play again like they did last week, then they deserve whatever happens. Just sayin’. Much to my happiness, Momma’s Grizzly Grub was sent packing. I didn’t really like them, so I was happy that they were gone. *shrug*

On tonight’s episode, “Mistake by the Lake?” the final three teams head to Cleveland, where they have to take an everyday vegetable and create a winning appetizer. This week’s speed bump includes a hot dog cart for each team.

Don’t miss it tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Great Food Truck Race @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, $24 in 24 on Food Network, All American Handyman & Copper.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/9/12

It’s the start of a new week, but thankfully, we have one more day to relax before the work week itself starts. How was your Saturday? Mine was pretty good. We all got caught up on sleep and play. My kid is in NJROTC this year, and Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday, he has to get up at 5am to be at the school for drill at 5:45am—which means his dad & I have to be up, as well. Then Friday night was their first football game (he’s in the marching band), so he was up until nearly 11pm. Then Saturday morning, we had to be up at 6am because they had drill from 7-10am, so by noon, we were all one big pile of exhausted. lol Thankfully, our Sunday is slow so we can relax and enjoy the last of our weekend. 🙂 And that means some new TV tonight. Yay!

Tonight is the series premiere of Breaking Amish. Here’s what TLC says about it: “In a world where ‘plain’ is considered a compliment, TLC will pull back the curtains to reveal the strict traditions of the Amish/Mennonite religion and lifestyle as cameras follow five people who have chosen to leave it behind and explore the world outside of their community. The show provides a never-before-seen look inside the lives of young men and women as they, for the first time, trade horse and buggy with taxi cabs to break out from their respective Amish/Mennonite communities in their pursuit to chase big dreams in the Big Apple. It will shed light on many ‘firsts’ for the cast members. From flying in a plane and wearing jeans to using a cell phone and electricity, the show will highlight their transition into city culture and the basic amenities that come with it. Unlike Rumspringa, these young men and women get serious about the possibility of committing to careers, life, and options for living indefinitely on the outside. But after these new experiences and the opportunity to live out dreams take flight, will they take advantage of New York and carry out their newfound lives while leaving behind the Amish/Mennonite community and their families forever?”

I’m very interested in this, even though I’m not sure I can explain why. When I first heard about it, I thought it was going to be about teenagers on Rumspringa, but it’s not, which makes it even more intriguing. I don’t know if I’ll watch anything more than the first episode, but we’ll see.

On tonight’s episode, “Jumping the Fence,” four Amish and one Mennonite leave the only home they’ve ever known to see if there is more to life. Facing being shunned by their families and possible exile from their community, these people get their first glimpse of the outside world.

See if it’s worth watching tonight on TLC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Breaking Amish @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, The Great Food Truck Race, Leverage, All American Handyman, One Car Too Far, & Copper.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/19/12

It’s the start of a new week. I had a great weekend. Friday was my 16th wedding anniversary. My husband had extra work at night every night last week and through Saturday night, dealing with conventions for work, so we didn’t get to celebrate until after he was finished Saturday night, when we caught up on some episodes of Blue Bloods from last season, to today, when we’re going to play cards, watch more TV, and geet Chinese takeout for dinner. Plus, some great new TV. 🙂 So check out what we think you should be watching. (Oh, and Megan, I hope the next time you eat sushi, you don’t order it from Kansas! You know we aren’t known for our seafood! *snicker*)

One of my favorite Food Network series starts again tonight. The Great Food Truck Race takes eight teams of food truck chefs and has them compete to win $50,000. This season, though, there’s a twist: it’s no longer a competition between teams that already own their own food trucks. All eight teams have a dream, a concept, and the culinary skills needed. But none of them have a food truck of their own. This season, they are provided a vehicle for the race, and only the grand prize winner gets to keep their food truck and the $50,000 cash prize. With everything from authentic Aussie barbecue to signature Korean-style sausages and everything in between, teams start at Long Beach, California and continue through the finale at the West Quoddy Lighthouse in Maine, the easternmost point of the United States.

On tonight’s episode, “3559 Miles to a Dream,” host Tyler Florence greets eight new teams in Long Beach, California; the competitors journey to Los Angeles, where they are challenged to an epic battle in one of the most ruthless environments for food truck entrepreneurs.

See how the new changes affect the show tonight on Food Network at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Great Food Truck Race @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/DVRing Cupcake Wars, Chopped, The Great Escape, Falling Skies, Leverage, One Car Too Far, All American Handyman, & Leverage.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/25/11

I can’t believe that September is almost over! In fact, I can’t believe that my baby boy, Pherson, is 6 months old today. It still seems like just yesterday that I had him, but now, he’s trying to crawl, eating solids, and getting more personality daily. Before I know it, he’s going to be walking and talking. Eek!

Tonight starts another new week of television, and it’s even busier than last week. Hold on to your remotes and get your DVRs programmed, because this week is a not a sprint, it’s a marathon. Let’s see why tonight is…

It’s that time of year again, when teams of two get together to race around the world! In case you’ve been living under a rock and don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s time for the 19th season premiere of The Amazing Race. This season, we have a team of Survivor alumni racing—Ethan and Jenna. There’s also a father/son team of Laurence and Zac, with Zac being the youngest guy to sail around the world. It looks like it’s going to be another great season. [Side note from Jenny: Be sure you set your DVRs long if you plan on recording it, because inevitably, football will run long, and you will miss part of the end if you don’t!]

Tonight, the teams set off for a new global adventure as they depart for Taipei, Taiwan. Plus, one team’s position in the game is put in serious jeopardy when they lose their passport less than an hour into the Race.

To get this season started and pick your favorite team, tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Amazing Race @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/18/11

Forty-eight shows. Fifty-one episodes. That’s how much I have to record/watch this week. I guess the Fall season has truly begun, huh? It’s mind-boggling to look at this week’s schedule. We are going to try and pare it down for you each night, but I guarantee you now, we won’t be able to keep it to one show each after tonight! Still, we’ll try and limit it to one to three per person, except in extreme cases (Monday, anyone? Eek!). Now, as for tonight… Sunday is the calm before the storm, so to speak, so enjoy it! 😉

Who in the world would have guessed that Korilla’s would get kicked off The Great Food Truck Race for cheating?! I’ve seen two different thoughts on what went down at the end of last week’s episode. My personal thoughts are that the driver of the truck at the end is the one who did it, and the two in the car didn’t know he had. They blamed him and said he’d made them look like fools. The other thing I’ve heard from people is they think the guys were talking about Tyler (the host) when they said that about making them look like fools. What’d you think? Regardless, I was sad, because they were my pick to win. *sigh* Can’t believe that. Crazy stuff, man. We’re getting down to the end, so the competition for the top three teams is tough!

On tonight’s episode, the three trucks arrive in Atlanta, Georgia, and the contestants are challenged to create an original dish utilizing peaches and peanuts. A Speed Bump forces the teams to work without their head chef for the day.

Check it out tonight on Food Network at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Great Food Truck Race @ Clicker.
