If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/6/14

When will this snow finally go away?! I blame Punxsutawney Phil for the foot of the white stuff that got dumped on us here in Massachusetts yesterday. With the Winter Olympics starting up, the TV selections are going to be a bit slimmer for the next few weeks, but I’m actually looking forward to getting a chance to clear out the TiVo. Check out our recommendations.

tbbt26smallLast week’s episode of The Big Bang Theory was all about the guys trying to get Comic-Con tickets. When they got shut out during the online badge sale, Sheldon decided to start his own convention, while the rest of the guys decided to find a scalper. In his search for convention guests, Sheldon made friends with James Earl Jones—though he soon regretted his new friendship, as James never stopped talking and wanted to perform childish pranks on his Star Wars co-star, Carrie Fisher. Meanwhile, the girls decided to go on a “grown-ups” night out, but their “high tea” ended up being a mother/daughter event for little girls.

Who knew James Earl Jones was so hilarious—well, I guess I should have known based on those great Sprint ads he does with Malcolm McDowell. The actor seemed up for anything on this episode, and he delivered! On the other hand, the stuff about the Comic-Con tickets felt way too real and made me even more stressed out about getting my SDCC badge this Saturday!

On tonight’s episode, “The Locomotive Manipulation,” Amy has amour on her mind when she talks Sheldon into a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway to Napa Valley wine country. Back at home, Leonard and Penny make an emergency visit to the vet with Raj’s dog.

See if Amy’s able to get Sheldon to romance her even a little tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Rake, and King of the Nerds.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/23/14

I can’t believe I made it a week without losing my power again (knock on wood)! I know we just had a long weekend, but I could really use another! I have been struggling to keep up with all of the new TV—my TiVo has been hovering around 98% full! The nice thing about having 6 tuners is that you don’t miss recording anything—the problem is finding the time to watch it all! We’ve got some suggestions on what you can fill your own DVR with tonight!

rake123smallTonight, Greg Kinnear returns to TV in the new FOX comedy/drama Rake. This remake of an Australian series finds brilliant, but damaged criminal defense lawyer Keegan Joye (Kinnear) taking on wacky cases and defendants in Los Angeles. However, the person who really needs saving is Keegan himself—from his own self-destructive behavior and mess of a life, including an ongoing battle with IRS tax attorney David Potter (David Harbour, The Newsroom). Joining Keegan for this wild ride are his best friend Ben (John Ortiz, Luck), Ben’s wife—and Assistant DA—Scarlet (Necar Zadegan, Emily Owens, M.D.), Keegan’s assistant Leanne (Tara Summers, Ringer, Boston Legal), Keegan’s favorite prostitute Mikki (Bojana Novakovic), Keegan’s ex-wife/therapist Maddy (Miranda Otto, The Starter Wife), and their hormonal son Finn (Ian Colletti).

I have heard the series referred to as House with lawyers, and I think that’s a pretty accurate summary—though we get a little deeper of a glimpse into the messed-up world of our brilliant-but-damaged protagonist. While I wasn’t blown away by tonight’s pilot, I like the premise of the series, and it looks like they have some really oddball cases, clients, and guest stars lined up for the season, so I’m interested to see more.

On tonight’s episode, “Serial Killer,” a serial killer’s confession that may or may not be the work of the Los Angeles police chief. Meanwhile, a client remunerates Keegan with an expensive fish, but he needs to collect the money from a sushi restaurant so he can pay his bookie part of his gambling debt.

See if this new show’s for you tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Community, Parks and Recreation, The Michael J. Fox Show, Sean Saves the World, Parenthood, and King of the Nerds.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/16/14

Poor Kyle’s power went off again last night… Luckily, it didn’t last all night! JJ’s taking the night off, too, so Megan & I are here to give you our recommendations. 🙂

groundfloor116smallTonight is the season finale of Ground Floor, on TBS. I’ve really enjoyed this new show. It’s a cute little comedy gem, and I don’t think enough people watch it. Even Harvard, who I didn’t like in the first couple of episodes, has grown on me. Last week, Brody tried to tell Jenny he loved her, but it seemed like everyone was working against her, telling her they loved her (platonically & as friends, of course—except for Harvard, who dfinitely didn’t mean it platonically. LOL). Meanwhile, Jenny had earned enough air miles to go to Paris, but Brody was shocked when she hadn’t even considered taking him. In the end, he finally cornered her in the little area with the dumpsters and then told her he loved her—and she reciprocated, telling him she loved him, too. Of course, then he learned that instead of Threepeat getting the job like he’d expected, Mansfield was promoting Brody and sending him to head up their new office in China…

So now Brody has to make the choice between a job that he knows he’d love and the woman he loves. I don’t see Jenny wanting to go with him—not that the show would take them to China… Not long-term, anyway. I’m interested to see how they handle Brody’s decision!

On tonight’s episode, “The Decision, Part Two,” Brody faces a difficult choice between the job he always wanted with Mansfield and the love he never expected with Jenny. So he tries to come up with a third option. Threepeat is forced to stay with Harvard after losing his apartment, but he soon discovers Harvard’s place in a converted funeral home isn’t technically zoned for the living.

Find out what decision Brody makes tonight on TBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Taste, Chopped Canada, The Michael J. Fox Show, & Panic Button.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/12/13

I finished editing a fantastic new book last night that I really loved. I wish more of my job involved books that were actually fun for me to edit… LOL Anyway, I know you aren’t here for my thoughts on my job. 😉 So read on to see what we think about tonight’s new television. 😀

thetastesmallIt’s been a fun road for new series The Taste. I have loved the idea behind the blind tasting, and I think it’s worked well. The only part I didn’t like was when the person who won immunity then really, truly DESERVED to go home later in the episode but they couldn’t because they had the immunity. Still, it’s been an enjoyable show, and watching Malarkey and Ludo go at each other like they have has been amusing. I’m pretty sure about who I want to win out of those who are left… Khristianne, from Team Malarkey, is the most qualified while being the least annoyoing. Sarah has spent too much time flirting and playing the pretty girl to Ludo’s lisciviousness. Diane is good, but she’s pretty cocky sometimes. And don’t even get me started on Gregg, who I’ve hated since the beginning for his cocky attitude and grew to dislike even more as the weeks went on.

On tonight’s episode, “The Taste Finale: Triple Threat,” after seven weeks of intense competition in the kitchen, the final four remaining participants face off to determine the ultimate winner. After a group challenge eliminates one chef, the final three prepare three dishes in less than two hours.

To see who becomes the ultimate victor tonight, tune in to ABC at 9/8c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Taste @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hell’s Kitchen, 19 Kids & Counting, Body of Proof, Cougar Town, Chopped, Justified, & Robot Combat League.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/12/13

I love winter, but I’ve had ENOUGH snow! Insanity was my friend while I drove in that mess of a storm on Friday—took me almost 7 hours to get somewhere that should have taken me 3 hours. Yeah, I am certifiable. Then yesterday, they canceled my daughter’s school again because of freezing rain. I’m done… Bring on spring!! To amuse myself and take my mind off this ridiculous weather, I am going to kick back and relax with some good TV. Here’s what you should be watching.

Megan’s Choice

thetastesmallThere really isn’t much on tonight (except of course for the State of the Union 2013), but I’m going to amuse myself with The Taste. I wasn’t sure I liked this show in the beginning, but I have a weakness for cooking competitions, mostly because I like to watch and think about how much better I’d be at it if I entered the contest myself. Yes, I’m pretty confident in my skills, but I’d love to be mentored by a professional chef, especially one as sexy as Ludo Lefebvre. So far, the competition has just begun, but I’m interested to see how well these competitors continue to do under the extreme pressure that is building, I suppose only time will tell!

On tonight’s episode, “Daring Pairings,” each team must use five unique ingredients as it tries to create the best dish; each contestant has to prepare a dish that pairs best with the selected wine.

To see who makes taste buds dance and who makes them die, tune into ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of The Taste @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching Pretty Little Liars.
