If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/5/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, NBC kicks off the new spy thriller, Allegiance. Rookie CIA analyst Alex O’Connor (Gavin Stenhouse) is sent from DC to New York City to assess an SBR (formerly KGB) asset who wants to defect to the US. However, Alex doesn’t know that his parents, Katya (Hope Davis, The Newsroom) and Mark (Scott Cohen, Necessary Roughness), and sister Natalie (Margarita Levieva, Revenge) are part of a Russian sleeper cell. The O’Connors’ handler Victor (Morgan Spector, Person of Interest, Boardwalk Empire) demands that they recruit their son as a spy before his investigation uncovers the SBR’s darkest secrets. However, Katya doesn’t want to lose any more of her children to the Russians. The series also stars Kenneth Choi (Sons of Anarchy, Ironside) as Alex’s mentor.

One can’t help but compare this show to The Americans. While they do share some similarities, they are still very different shows, and this one takes place in the present. I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere and am looking forward to seeing how this story unfolds. Can the O’Connors prevent the rest of their children from being drafted into the SBR? Will Alex discover the truth about his family? And if so, would he choose family or country?

Meet the new spy family tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, How to Get Away With Murder, The Blacklist, Backstrom, Archer, Wizard Wars, and Fortitude.

backstrom25smallI’m really enjoying Backstrom so far—and it’s no wonder… Hart Hanson is a fave of mine! Last week, the squad helped find an arsonist who was upping the game and beginning to target houses where people were home. And much to Backstrom’s frustration, he was up against two brother firefighters (incl. Eddie McClintock, who needs his own show again, pronto!) who had bullied him when they were kids and were continuing to do so after they saw each other on the scene of the latest fire. He got it into his head that they were stealing things from the fires and therefore were the ones setting the fires. He was only half right—they were stealing things, but the arsonist turned out to be the arson investigator assigned to the case. They were able to catch and arrest her as she was casing the next house, taking pictures from her car while the ingredients needed to start the fire were in her trunk. One of my favorite parts of the episode, though, had to be when Valentine (whom I adore! LOL) took Niedermayer with him to find the watch that had been stolen from one of the fires. Niedermayer played it perfectly so Valentine’s reputation wasn’t blown.

On tonight’s episode, “Takes One to Know One,” Backstrom and his team tread carefully as they investigate a possible cult in the murder of a youth pastor at a church; Backstrom’s ex-fiance leads a new Civilian Oversight Committee to investigate suspicious behavior within the Police Bureau. Sarah Chalke (Scrubs) guest stars.

To see if Backstrom is capable of treading carefully, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Chopped Canada, Two and a Half Men, Beat Bobby Flay, & Duff Till Dawn.
