It’s a food-competition-show type of night for me. So my first pick is the season premiere of Man vs Child: Chef Showdown on FYI. I loved this show last season. A team of child cooking prodigies compete in different challenges against an executive-level chef in the kitchen. The kids, ages 8-15 (maybe 9-16 now?), are absolutely incredible. And the challenges are fun and different. So combined that with the fact that kids are competing against professional chefs, and this is a great show to chill out to.
On tonight’s episode, “Fish Out of Water,†the prodigies will have to sink or swim when they face off against Drew Tsang, an executive chef who takes them to task in three rounds that revolve around seafood.
See if the kids can defeat Chef Tsang tonight on FYI at 8/7c.

Late tonight (if you’re on the West Coast), or in the wee hours of tomorrow morning for the rest of us, Netflix will be releasing something I have been waiting for for a very long time: a brand new Pee-wee Herman movie! That’s right, everyone’s favorite bow-tied man-child is back for an all-new adventure in the Netflix Original Pee-wee’s Big Holiday. In the film, Pee-wee is inspired to take his first ever “holiday” after having a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger. The movie also stars Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike XXL), Jessica Pohly (Stalker), Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
As a kid, I couldn’t get enough of Pee-wee’s Playhouse. I recently watched a few episodes with my nieces and was surprised by how well the show still holds up! Also, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure is still one of my favorite movies, so I am really hoping this will be just as epic and fun. From the trailer, it looks like classic Pee-wee is back with his usual antics and catchphrases, and it doesn’t look like he has even aged a day in the past 30 years, both physically and in his maturity level. I can’t wait to check this out – I’m even tempted to set my alarm for 3am!
And if your response to my saying that I’m a Pee-wee fan is “I know you are but what am I?” and you’re looking for something a bit darker, Netflix will also be releasing the second season of Marvel’s Daredevil at the same time as this film, and that’s something else I look forward to checking out as well.
Be sure to check out the premiere of the movie tonight on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc.
I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, You, Me and the Apocalypse, Top Chef, Recipe for Deception, 60 Days In, and Workaholics.

My second pick is the series premiere of Cooks vs Cons on Food Network, hosted by Chef Geoffrey Zakarian. The contestants – a combination of home cooks and trained professionals – need elite cooking skills, agility, and adaptability to compete in two rounds of challenges to create entrees that will impress a rotating panel of judges, including Kardea Brown, Josh Elkin, Graham Elliot, and Daphne Oz. The judges will determine the winner based on taste and presentation in a blind taste test. The catch? The judges won’t know which contestant is a home cook and which is a professional. If the professional chef wins, he/she will take home $10,000. But if the home cook can beat the pro, he/she will go home with $15,000!
On tonight’s episode, “Burger Battle,†professional chefs and home cooks compete for cash in a high-stakes burger battle; following a shocking elimination, the remaining competitors must cook their best dishes using tropical fruit.
To see if the home cook can take home the prize, tune in to Food Network at 9/8c.
I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chopped, Top Chef, Recipe for Deception, & Beat Bobby Flay.
