Tonight, Syfy’s special effects/make-up reality competition series, Face Off, returns for its eleventh season. This All-Stars season finds 16 contestants and finalists from previous seasons returning to the workroom to compete once again. This time around, the contestants are partnered up into teams of two and will either win or lose together, with one team being eliminated every other week. In the first week, the team with the best creation will win immunity, and in the following week one of the remaining teams will be sent home. Also back are host Mackenzie Westmore, her father/contestant mentor Michael Westmore, and judges Glenn Hetrick, Ve Neill, and Neville Page.

I really like this new pairs-of-contestants format. In the old days, the individual contestants would get partnered up for challenges, but it was still ultimately an individual elimination, so there was always the excuses and plotting to throw the partner under the bus should something go wrong. This season, the contestants live and die by one another, and since they are partners throughout the competition, their ability to work with one another should improve with each challenge. I’m always impressed by the amazing things these artists come up with, and tonight’s premiere adds a whole new dimension to the challenge by having the contestants utilize green screen in their creations. It is a great start to another fun season, and I look forward to seeing what challenges lie ahead.

On tonight’s premiere, “Abstract Aliens,” the artists having to incorporate green screen technology when creating unique alien creatures.

See if you like the new format on tonight’s season premiere on Syfy at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Wall, This Is Us, New Girl, The Mick, Bones, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Teen Wolf, Sweet/Vicious, and Teachers.

The Mick has proven to be a quite amusing comedy that makes me laugh every time. Last episode, Ben became friends with a homeless man who was living in the tree house in the woods. It ended with some interesting situations, including Ben stealing and using this new friend everyone thought was imaginary as a scapegoat. Later, when they found out the friend was real, Mick came up with using him to take the fall for a fire she accidentally set to the neighbor’s guest house while smoking. It all worked out in the end, but I’m interested to see if she can find a way to become the parental figure these kids need before she ends up losing her mind.

On tonight’s episode, “The Master,” all hell breaks loose as the kids fight over who will take the master bedroom. Also, Mickey pursues a wealthy businessman who quickly discovers that she is not the prize he thought she was.

To see how Mick scares this man away while trying to rein in the chaotic children, tune in to FOX at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching Bull, NCIS, NCIS: New Orleans, Bones, Chopped Junior, The Wall, This Is Us, Chicago Fire, and Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
