I’m so excited about tonight’s series premiere of Reverie. It comes from Mickey Fisher, the creator of Extant, and stars Sarah Shahi, whom I’ve loved in everything I’ve ever seen her in, like Person of Interest, Fairly Legal, & Life. She plays Mara Kint, a former hostage negotiator and expert on human behavior who endured a horrible tragedy in her personal life and quit the police force and became a college professor. But her former boss, Charlie Ventana (played by the incomparable Dennis Haysbert, from one of my favorite shows ever, The Unit, among others), recruits her to do what she does best in an entirely new way. He now works with a company that invented a highly advanced immersive virtual-reality program called Reverie, in which you can live out your wildest dreams. It’s so good that they’re finding some people don’t want to come back out from it, and if they stay, they’ll die. So she’s brought in to go in with them and convince them to come out.

It’s such a fun, cool premise. I’ve seen the pilot, and it isn’t surprising that Sarah Shahi rocks it. She’s brilliant in everything, and this is no exception. The cast also includes Sendhil Ramamurthy (Heroes, Covert Affairs), Jessica Lu (Awkward.), & Kathryn Morris (Cold Case).

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot/Apertus,” former hostage negotiator Mara Kint is hired by tech company Oniratech to save people who have lost themselves in a sophisticated virtual reality program called Reverie.

Step inside Reverie tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, MasterChef, & Brother vs Brother.

Tonight, FX airs the series finale of the 1980s-set spy drama The Americans. Last week, Stan’s suspicions of the Jennings continued to grow. He entered Elizabeth’s and Phillip’s names into his FBI computer, but nothing came up. He stopped by their travel agency, hoping to find something suspicious, and even called up Pastor Tim in Buenos Aires, hoping he would reveal something, but nothing panned out. Stan brought his suspicions to Dennis, but he thought the notion was crazy.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth stopped the assassination of Nesterenko, and a livid Claudia told her the damage she had done was indescribable. Paige questioned her mother about her seduction of a young State Department page and was upset when Elizabeth flat out lied to her. And Philip was meeting with Father Andrei when the priest informed him that the FBI had been questioning other clergy members. Fearing they were under surveillance, Philip immediately strolled away, but once he started sprinting, he knew for sure that he was being followed. Philip managed to get away and immediately called Elizabeth, giving her a coded message, letting her that it was time for them to run. She grabbed a Go Bag from the wall in the laundry room and some IDs and money from a safe and took off.

Philip and Elizabeth are now on the run, and the FBI are watching possible garages and safehouses in the area. Did they managed to get Philip’s photo on surveillance, and if not, will Father Andrei turn on them? Will Stan finally have the proof that the Jennings are the spies he’s been searching for all this time? And how will he react if this betrayal is confirmed? Will Paige join her mother, or is she still too upset about the lies? Will the Jennings be caught and punished, or will someone die? And what about Henry? He’s still off at school, unaware any of this has been going on – how will he take the news about his Russian spy family? Check out tonight’s exciting series finale to see how it all plays out. Then, after the episode airs on the East Coast, look for a post-mortem interview with showrunners Joe Weisberg & Joel Fields at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s finale, “START,” the Jennings face a choice that will change their lives forever.

Don’t miss the end of this great series tonight on FX at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Reverie, Archer, and The Expanse.

I am very disappointed that Code Black has been cancelled, but at least we get a few more new episodes, including a double episode tonight. It is going to be greatly missed, but please tune in while you can.

On the first new episode, “Cabin Pressure,” over the radio, Leanne and Jesse talk a young girl through how to use the supplies on board a small plane to build a makeshift defibrillator when her mom, the pilot, loses consciousness mid-flight. Also, Rox and Willis are taken hostage at gunpoint while on their way to meet the plane at the landing site.

Then on the second episode, “Hell’s Heart,” Willis and Rox arrive to the scene of a wildfire in the mountains of Los Angeles to tend to injured firefighters, and they volunteer to stay to look for a missing young boy who was separated from his father in the chaos. Also, Campbell confides in Angus about the difficulty with his job when his daughter becomes ill.

To watch the best trauma doctors on television do their work, tune in to CBS starting at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Reverie, and American Ninja Warrior.
