My favorite genre of TV has to be the procedural – cops, detectives, crime scene, & the like. So when I got an email about screeners for a new lighthearted detective comedy/procedural on WGN America, Carter. Jerry O’Connell stars as Harley Carter, an actor playing a detective on a hit TV show who retreats to his hometown after an embarrassing public meltdown in Hollywood. (Yes, it sounds similar to Take Two, with the actor/public meltdown/becoming a detective in real life. But I’m okay with that. LOL) Once there, he uses what he’s learned on set to help out his childhood best friend, Sam Shaw (Sydney Poitier Heartsong), a police detective. He also ropes in their third best friend, Dave Leigh (Kristian Bruun), who reluctantly goes along with Harley’s sometimes crazy, sometimes dangerous schemes.
I’ve seen most of the first 10-episode season, and while it isn’t perfect, it’s a fun, enjoyable show that is an escape from the real world, which is just kind of what we want sometimes, isn’t it?
On tonight’s episode, “Koji the Killer,†Harley Carter returns to his Ontario hometown after a public scandal, only to find that his housekeeper has been accused of murder.
Check out this fun new comedic procedural tonight on WGN America at 10/9c.
I’ll also be watching/DVRing America’s Got Talent, Chopped, & Making It.

Tonight, the hilarious TBS comedy Wrecked returns for its third season. Last season, the plane crash survivors had been taken hostage by a band of pirates but managed to escape by stealing a yacht. Things were finally looking up, and Todd and Jess even tied the knot. However, factions started to form, and someone sabotaged the ship. They managed to escape as the ship sank, making it to the beach of a new island. However, as they stepped ashore, the 10 survivors…make that 9 survivors…discovered that the beach was riddled with land mines.
The third season picks up right where we left off as the survivors try to figure out how to deal with this latest obstacle. As I watched tonight’s premiere, I quickly realized just how much I missed this show and these characters! Each episode is nonstop laughs, with witty dialogue and fun pop-culture references. This series moves at a breakneck pace and the episodes are over before you know it, usually ending in some cliffhanger twist that makes you eager for more.
This series does an excellent job at reinventing itself each season, finding fun new dangers and obstacles for the survivors to deal with. I can’t wait to see how this season plays out because, based on the trailer, it looks like these land mines are just the beginning. This season, the survivors find themselves on a private island belonging to a billionaire, who forces humans to hunt one another for sport, participating in a Hunger Games-style competition. Will they give in to this sick game, or can our group of survivors find a way to work together in order to escape this latest deadly island?!
On tonight’s premiere, “Bush Man,†the survivors uncover a menacing threat after surviving the Cruisifornication explosion and washing ashore on a new island.
Don’t miss tonight’s season premiere on TBS at 10/9c.
I’ll also be watching/recording Castaways, Making It, The 100, Animal Kingdom, Younger, Chrisley Knows Best, and Carter.
