Late last night, Netflix released the complete first season of The Good Cop, starring classical singer-sometimes-actor Josh Groban and former housekeeper (from Who’s the Boss?, duh! LOL) Tony Danza. Danza plays Tony Sr. (Big Tony), a former NYPD officer who is lovable but never really followed the rules while on the job. Groban plays his son, Tony Jr. (TJ), who is also a cop, although he strives to be what his dad was not. He’s a super smart, straight-laced detective who makes a point of always following the rules. Dad annoys son when he starts poking his nose into TJ’s cases, and they become unofficial partners.
Tony Danza plays Tony Sr. (Big Tony), a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr. (TJ), Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice. Also joining the cast are Monica Barbaro (Chicago Justice), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire), Frank Whaley (Marvel’s Luke Cage), and Bill Kottkamp.
I haven’t heard much about this show, but the trailer looked pretty amusing. I love Josh Groban as a singer. Haven’t seen him in enough as an actor to figure out if I like him in that respect or not, but paired with Tony Danza, who is always fun to watch, should give him someone/something great to play off of. I can’t wait to sit and binge watch this one!
