If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/21/19

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Tonight, CBS’s Celebrity Big Brother returns for a second season, with 12 new celebrities entering the Big Brother house to compete in a compressed version of the hit reality competition. I really enjoyed the first celebrity season last year, as things move along at a much faster pace than the regular summer show, which is stretched over 3 months instead of just a few weeks.

Julie Chen Moonves will once again be hosting the series, and this year’s batch of house guests includes an actual professional house guest, Kato Kaelin, who’s still stretching out his 15 minutes of fame from the O.J. trial. Also entering the house tonight are actors Jonathan Bennett (Mean Girls, Cake Wars), Joey Lawrence (Melissa & Joey, Blossom), & Tom Green (Road Trip); singers and/or reality TV stars Tamar Braxton (The Braxtons), Kandi Burruss (Xscape), and Dina Lohan (Living Lohan); and athletes Lolo Jones (Olympic track and bobsled), Ryan Lochte (swimming Gold medalist), Natalie Eva Marie (WWE wrestler), & Ricky Williams (former NFL superstar). Finally, there’s 10-day White House Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci.

It looks like another odd mix of folks, though there are several cliques that could be formed or folks who already know one another going into the house. It will be interesting to see who teams up with whom and who ultimately wins the season.

Catch everyone moving in tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Manifest, The Resident, The Passage, and Arrow.

Phoebe’s Choice

Last time on Arrow, we were in part two of the Elseworlds trilogy. Things mostly revolved around that crossover plot and the bad guys The Monitor & Dr Deeghan, but they did touch on the current rift between Oliver and Felicity. The Freaky Friday’d Oliver & Barry showed up in Starling City, seeking the technical help of Argus & Felicity. They had tracked an anomalous energy to Gotham and set out to investigate while the tech geeks studied the energy. A scuffle with a thief in Gotham landed them in jail for the night, and they were bailed out by Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s punk rock cousin (who is also a lawyer).

The crew kept the body switch between Oliver & Barry a secret from Felicity since there was already such complication in her love life with Oliver. But she and the geek crew devised a device that allowed Earth-90’s Barry Allen to partially breech through and warn them about the book Deeghan was using to alter reality. Killer Frost, Supergirl, Barry, Oliver, & Diggle all infiltrated Arkham Asylum in an attempt to get Deeghan. To escape, Deeghan released all of the inmates, which led to a massive asylum-wide brawl. Highlights from that included the introduction of Batwoman, Barry vs. Oliver when hallucinating, and a quick but fun Killer Frost vs. Mrs. Freize fight. They managed to get the magic book back and put all the inmates back in holding.

Earth-90’s Barry broke fully through to Earth-1 and informed them about The Monitors’ rampage across worlds “testing” the heroes in the process of destroying each planet. Moments later, The Monitor showed up and took the book back, making Deeghan try again. That led to the “Trigger Twins” alternate reality that they were in, in part three of the Elseworlds trilogy, which occurred on Supergirl.

Tonight we’ll be back to the normal version of Earth-1, and the rift between Oliver & Felicity can get back in the driver’s seat. I hope they resolve their issues, because I really only watch this show for Felicity. This could be the final year for Arrow, as we know that Batwoman gets her own show next fall. Five Arrowverse shows at once may be a bit more than the CW can produce. We’ll have to wait and watch!

On tonight’s episode, “My Name is Emiko Queen,” Oliver is ready to get back to work with the SCPD and to focus on his marriage with Felicity. However, when Dinah tasks Oliver with tracking the new Green Arrow, things take a surprising turn. Meanwhile, Diggle and Lyla must answer to ARGUS about Diaz.

To ride along with the twists and turns, tune in to The CW at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Black Lightning.
