It isn’t very often that I’m super excited about a normal episode of TV (normal as in regular season, not premieres or finales). But tonight’s SEAL Team is coming off a really dramatic one, and I can’t wait for tonight’s. Last week, the team was still deployed, their “Gucci” deployment to the Philippines, where they stay in a hotel while they train Filipino soldiers. It does seem like a cushy deployment – no one shooting at them, lots of downtime eating food from street vendors and drinking in bars. Ray has totally turned a 180 – flirting with a woman who I believe is an American…soldier of some kind? He’s drinking more and more – and hard liquor, not beer. He even lied to Jason about needing to go call Naima, when in reality he went to the bar to drink and talk to the woman. I’m so not liking him right now. Meanwhile, Davis is still at OCS, and last week didn’t go so well for her. It was basically “Hell” training, in which they had to go in a building and put out fires. Something must have happened in Davis’s past, because she clearly froze when she learned about it, and when she got inside and faced the actual fire, ready to go with the hose, she panicked and passed out. I’m wondering if there was a fire when she was a kid and a family member died or something.

But the biggest part of last week’s episode was the end… During their free time at night, the team was at the bar, having a good time, when suddenly there was an explosion. There were dead and injured, but our team and Mandy were all okay, including Sonny, who was outside talking on the phone with Davis. They immediately began searching for survivors and helping the wounded. Clay was all on top of it, running outside to start looking there. He reunited two little brothers, helping find the younger hiding in a truck. But then suddenly, he heard a phone ringing, and he realized it was coming from a backpack near him. Before he could react, it blew, throwing him back and causing severe injuries. He was so critically injured, in fact, that he was airlifted back to the States.

So now the team wants payback, not only for Clay but for the innocent people who were injured and killed. They want to find out who was behind the explosions, whether they were aimed at the team specifically or if it was just a coincidence that they were there. They’ll have to do that while under the watchful eye of Commander Shaw, who it feels like is out to get them – for mistakes made in Mexico, for Clay leaving behind a radio that the Chinese could get their hands on, etc… So hopefully they can find the answers they’re looking for and avoid getting disbanded by the commander.

On tonight’s episode, “Payback,” Bravo Team is out for revenge as they search for the person responsible for the surprise bomb attack that left one of their own in peril.

To see if the team can find answers and revenge tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Battle of the Ages, The Amazing Race, Dinner Takes All, Gone, Guy’s Grocery Games, & Whiskey Cavalier.

Tonight, The Amazing Race finally returns for its 31st season. While I’m excited for a new season of my favorite reality competition series, I’m also a bit disappointed to see that it’s yet another “celebrity” season. I miss the days when average people got to compete for the first time and run this amazing race. However, in this “Reality Showdown” season, the teams will be comprised of past contestants from Big Brother, Survivor, and The Amazing Race itself.

The Big Brother teams include engaged couple Nicole Franzel (Seasons 16 & 18) & Victor Arroyo (Season 18), friends Janelle Pierzina (Seasons 6, 7, & 14) & Britney Haynes (Seasons 12 & 14), and siblings Rachel Reilly (Seasons 12 & 13, Amazing Race Seasons 20 & 24) & Elissa Slater (Season 15). The returning Amazing Race teams include life companions Colin Guinn & Christie Woods (Season 5), cousins Leo Temory & Jamal Zadran (Seasons 23 & 24), YouTube pals Tyler Oakley & Korey Kuhl (Season 28), friends Becca Droz & Floyd Pierce (Season 29), and friends Art Velez & John James “JJ” Carrell (Season 20). And the former Survivor teams include friends Chris Hammons & Bret Labelle (Season 33), friends Corinne Kaplan (Seasons 17 & 26) & Eliza Orlins (Seasons 9 & 16), and husband and wife Rupert (Seasons 8, 17, 20, & 27) and Laura Boneham (Season 27). (Note from Jenny: Rupert was a family favorite on his first season of Survivor, but we haven’t watched in years. Hopefully he’s just as fun now as he was then!)

I don’t know who I’m rooting for, but pretty much anyone but Rachel (I can’t stand her!) or any of the others who are making a career out of being a reality show contestant. I’ll likely back one of the returning Amazing Race teams who were once just wide-eyed normal folks on an adventure across the globe.

On tonight’s premiere, “You’re in Our Race Now,” 11 pairs of contestants from reality shows The Amazing Race, Big Brother, and Survivor compete.

Don’t miss the exciting premiere tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Whiskey Cavalier, What We Do in the Shadows, The Magicians, and Happy!.

The new “Easter” themed season of Happy! continues tonight on Syfy!! Last week we saw Smoothies’ skinned torture victim show up in a giant chocolate rabbit, which was the centerpiece for a children’s egg hunt. It was yet another disturbing juxtaposition of traditional holiday innocence with over-the-top gore that this show is coming to be defined by. Happy & Nick took a job breaking and entering into a house to get some old video tapes. As Nick got mistaken for a pool boy, they discovered that the owner of the mansion was former Hollywood star B.B. Debarge. Meanwhile, in jail, Blue found out from his lawyer that he blacked out and killed 6 members of the Dimitrov crime families’ thugs. His niece (and detective ex-partner of Nick’s) Meredith came in to squeeze him for more info on Sunny Shine, who they both reviled.

Just as…Nick & Happy found out that Shine was whose house they were breaking into! At school, bullies picked on Hailey, so she challenged the Alpha girl to a fight after school. Sunny Shine negotiated details of his new Easter special with a TV exec over golf as Amanda, Hailey’s mom, got fired from her dental tech job. Somehow, B.B. Debarge could see Happy, so he distracted her as Nick searched for the tapes. This lead to a huge song & dance number going on as Nick beat up a security team. This show is as classy as it is crass. Nick found out it was Meredith who hired him by proxy, and they checked the tapes for the blackmail material she sought. But no – it was just homemade sex vids. Ickkk.

After school, the bully girl was beating Hailey’s ass until Smoothie arrived mysteriously to rescue Hailey and kill the bully. Thanks, creep. Nick fell asleep watching Shine’s vids, which lead to him discovering a bit where Shine was with a Nazi named “Dayglo Doug.” So maybe there is more there? This show continues to kickass. Highly recommended.

On tonight’s episode, “Blitzkreig!!!” Dayglo Doug; Sax, Merry and Happy enter a geriatric death trap.

Learn more about the “geriatric death trap” tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

This is my only show for tonight.
