Tonight is the 2-hour series premiere of The Red Line on CBS at 8/7c. This is an eight-episode original limited series that follows three very different Chicago families as they journey toward hope and healing after a tragedy causes them all to consider how race and racial biases affect their lives. On the north side of Chicago, Daniel Calder (Noah Wyle) is a high school history teacher mourning the death of his husband, an African American doctor who was shot, while unarmed, by a white cop. As Daniel tries to comfort their grieving daughter, Jira Calder-Brennan (Aliyah Royale), the two butt heads when she decides she needs more support than her father can provide. She seeks the understanding of someone who knows what it’s like to grow up as a young black woman, and searches for her birth mother to learn more about her personal history, culture and community. Daniel seeks comfort in his colleague—and Jira’s teacher—Liam Bhatt (Vinny Chhibber). On the south side, Tia Young (Emayatzy Corinealdi) scours news of the shooting, torn between her political ambition of running for Alderman and risking it all to comfort the daughter she gave up for adoption as a teen. Tia’s husband, Ethan Young (Howard Charles), a red line train operator and devoted father to their 6-year-old son, champions her running for office, but cautions her about connecting with Jira. On the west side, police officer Paul Evans (Noel Fisher) must face the reality of his actions and intentions in the fatal shooting of an innocent man and worries about his fate amidst the public and legal fallout. His police partner, Victoria “Vic” Renna (Elizabeth Laidlaw), and his brother, Jim Evans (Michael Patrick Thornton), a volatile former cop confined to a wheelchair after being shot in the line of duty, cause more harm than good in their attempts to help him. As the stories of the Calder, Young, and Evans families converge, they each discover that it’s impossible to ignore issues of race; it’s important for each of us to explore how our backgrounds and internal biases affect how we act, and that we must open our eyes and see that we’re all human and all deserving of the same dignity.

Tonight is also the series premiere of The Redemption Project with Van Jones on CNN at 9/8c. Offering a rare glimpse into the restorative justice process, each episode follows the victim, or surviving family members, of a life-altering crime as they journey to meet face-to-face with their offender in the hopes of finding answers or some sense of healing. Van Jones serves as a guide for the viewer throughout this transformational experience. Through unique access to the U.S. prison system, this powerful series explores the human potential for redemption.

Tonight is the series premiere of On Tour with Asperger’s Are Us on HBO at 8/7c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 8:30/7:30c. Since 2010, the sketch-comedy troupe Asperger’s Are Us has performed more than 100 shows in nine countries. Now, they’re hitting the road for their first cross-country tour, crammed into a relic of an RV that’s on the verge of collapse. The show follows the team of four on a six-week trip that will test their understanding of friendship, comedy and carburetors. Meeting more than a decade ago at a camp for kids on the autism spectrum, Noah Britton (a counselor at the time), Ethan Finlan, Jack Hanke, and New Michael Ingemi formed Asperger’s Are Us, performing shows that feature original absurdist sketches and conducting post-performance Q&As, where they speak about their experiences as comedians. Challenging themselves to leave their comfort zones, Noah, Ethan, Jack and New Michael embark on their most ambitious venture yet: a six-week, multi-city journey from Boston to Los Angeles, along the way sharing their unique perspectives on life as an “Aspie” and the community they’ve found in performing together as a comedy troupe. As they travel in an old RV that often leaves them stranded, the four endure highs and lows, playing for alternately enthusiastic audiences and nearly empty houses. This intimate, humorous series is an underdog story that features a group of talented and funny performers who embrace shared challenges while working toward one overarching goal: to make people laugh.

Tonight is the series premiere of Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole on A&E at 10/9c. The show tells the individual stories of eight previously convicted child offenders sentenced to mandatory life terms without parole who are now seeking resentencing, on the heels of a recent United States Supreme Court ruling. While some may be resentenced to life, others could be immediately released or given a new sentence that makes them eligible for parole. The new series chronicles the chilling crimes and the painful and emotional impact on the victims’ family and friends as they grapple with the uncertain reality that these convicted offenders could possibly be released back into their communities. Additionally, each episode will include exclusive commentary from the convicted offenders directly from prison as well as leading psychologists, law enforcement and reporters closest to each case as they provide their own unique perspective on the Supreme Court ruling and how its impacting each individual case.

Tonight is also the series premiere of Ladies’ Night on BET at 10/9c. With a legacy spanning over three decades, Salt-N-Pepa has landed their biggest career accomplishment to-date, a Las Vegas residency. While simultaneously preparing for their opportunity of a lifetime, the trio has made the ambitious decision to launch the “Ladies’ Night” national tour in collaboration with SWV. The stakes are high and reputations are on the line as everyone scrambles to meet expectations and deadlines. We follow along as individual personalities, group egos, personal conflicts and professional obligations all take center stage to discover whether or not the ladies can push it to greatness together. The show also stars DJ Spinderella.

Tonight is the complete first season premiere of Dead to Me on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. Jen (Christina Applegate) is a sardonic widow determined to solve her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder. Judy (Linda Cardellini) is an optimistic free spirit who’s recently suffered her own tragic loss. When the two women meet at a support group, they become unlikely friends despite their polar-opposite personalities. But as they bond over bottles of wine, Entenmann’s cookies and a shared affinity for The Facts of Life, Judy desperately tries to shield Jen from a shocking secret that could destroy her life as she knows it. Dead to Me, created by Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls, One Big Happy), is an addictive dark comedy that dives into the painfully unfiltered, weirdly funny waters of grief, loss and forgiveness.

Tonight is also the complete first season premiere of Flinch on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. This is a new all action comedy game show with one simple rule: do not flinch. The show is set on a remote farm in the hills of Ireland where brave and foolish contestants gather to test their nerve against three fiendish games. If they flinch, there are painful consequences both for them, and for our hosts, who have each chosen a player to represent them in the games. The series is hosted by comedians Desiree Burch, Lloyd Griffith and Seann Walsh.

Finally, tonight is the complete first season premiere of Tuca & Bertie on Netflix at 3:01AM/2:01AMc. Tuca & Bertie is an animated comedy series about the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca (Tiffany Haddish), a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie (Ali Wong), an anxious, daydreaming songbird.
