Jenny’s Choice
I was excited when I saw Food Network’s latest offering, Supermarket Stakeout. Iron Chef and Chopped judge Alex Guarnaschelli hosts this new competition cooking show, which is a bit different from other offerings on TV right now, in that they basically have to ambush customers coming out from the supermarket and sweet talk their way into buying their items from their bags. There are three rounds of competition. Alex gives four competing chefs $500 each, which should last them the entire competition. In round one, the chefs have to blindly buy the shopping bags without knowing the contents. In round two, they can still only purchase groceries from a single shopper, but they may look through the bags before negotiating a price. In the final round, the chefs may purchase five ingredients total but can approach as many shoppers as it takes to get what they need. The last chef standing in each episode walks away with enough cash for a year’s worth of groceries. Sounds crazy fun!
On tonight’s episode, “An Egg-cellent Adventure,†Alex welcomes four chefs to Lazy Acres Market in Hermosa Beach, California. It’s all eggs on deck as the chefs are challenged to make a breakfast sandwich before cooking up a Southern favorite. Then it’s a sweet finish as the remaining two chefs hunt for ingredients to make a decadent dessert for judges Duff Goldman and Christian Petroni.
Check out this fun new cooking competition series tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.
I’ll also be watching Chopped, The Little Couple, & Bring the Funny.
