Directed by Ken Burns, this special event is an exploration of country music – from its roots in ballads, hymns and the blues to its mainstream popularity – and highlights the unforgettable characters and storytellers who made it “America’s music.”
Tonight is also the series premiere of Paul Shaffer Plus One on AXS TV at 8/7c. Paul Shaffer has mastered the art of captivating conversation from his seat at the piano on The Late Show with David Letterman. Now, the renowned bandleader and four-time Emmy nominee will further hone his chat chops with the launch of Paul Shaffer Plus One on AXS TV! Shaffer will be sitting down with some of music’s finest including Sammy Hagar, Graham Nash, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons, Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen and more to discuss everything from inspiration and influences to notable songs. Of course, a few impromptu performances will also be thrown into every show.
Tonight is also the series premiere of Brian Johnson’s Life on the Road on AXS TV at 9/8c. The show finds the rocker going above and abroad to catch up with a slate of fellow icons, hearing their priceless stories from their time on tour and taking viewers to the places that helped define their legendary careers.

Considered among the most terrifying and destructive natural occurrences on the planet, most people don’t go out of their way to put themselves in the center of a storm’s path. Most people, however, aren’t Josh Morgerman, the subject of a new eight-episode Science Channel series that closely looks at what makes hurricanes so remarkable and the overwhelming impact they have on people around the world. Morgerman, a veteran storm chaser, takes viewers on a global thrill ride into the heart of some of the most destructive hurricanes on the planet. From remote Japanese cities and the far-north jungles of the Philippines, to the coastal waters of America’s Deep South and the Pacific shoreline of Mexico, Hurricane Man is an action-packed adrenaline rush inside what happens when hurricanes come barreling into our cities. Morgerman gathers scientific data that only a storm chaser would have access to. This allows for scientists to better study and understand these devastating storms. The show also follows the journeys of those surviving these monster cyclones. From the families that remain in the path of the storm, to the local emergency rescue crews risking their lives to save the lives of others, It spotlights how people from all different walks of life feel the effects of our planet’s most ferocious hurricanes.

Overnight last night was the premiere of the first three episodes of the new series Bigger on BET+ (BET’s new streaming service). This entertaining and lively scripted comedy stars Tanisha Long, Angell Conwell, Rasheda Crockett, Chase Anthony, and Tristen Winger and takes place in the East Atlanta neighborhood, Little Five Points. The 30-minute, ten-episode series follows a single-black-woman who is dealing with the threat of marriage to a boring-in-bed boyfriend and the sudden, random death of a college acquaintance. The tragedy drives her ambitious group of friends to take a deeper look at their stagnant lives, asking themselves— is there something bigger and better in life.

This modern television remake of the classic 1996 revenge comedy starring Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler and Diane Keaton, now stars an all-star African American cast including Jill Scott, Ryan Michelle Bathe, and Michelle Buteau. After neglecting their friendship, best friends Ari (Ryan Michelle Bathe), Hazel (Jill Scott), and Bree (Michelle Buteau) reunite to help each other through rough patches in their lives. Together, they navigate music superstar Hazel’s tabloid-ridden divorce, campaign manager Ari’s unsatisfying marriage and orthopedic surgeon Bree’s cheating husband. Along the way, the women learn that as long as they have each other, there’s nothing they can’t do.

The Parent Trip, from Peacock Alley Entertainment and BYUtv, is the North American adaptation of the International Emmy Award-winning UK travel format series 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy that sees thrill-seeking celebrities take their parent or child on bucket list adventures. From zip lining across the Niagara Gorge to shark fishing in the Atlantic, viewers get a candid look at their favourite celebrities (including Jennie Garth, Jaleel White, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Annie Murphy, Monica Potter, James Maslow) as they travel to unique destinations for experiences they have always wanted to share with their family member.
