Tonight is the series premiere of My Grandparents’ War on PBS at 8/7c. Follow leading Hollywood actors as they re-trace the footsteps of their grandparents and learn how World War II changed the lives of their families – and the world.

Tonight is the series premiere of Atlantic Crossing on PBS at 9/8c. A princess steals the heart of the president of the United States in an epic drama based on the World War II relationship of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Norwegian Crown Princess Martha. Kyle MacLachlan (Twin Peaks) stars as Roosevelt, opposite Swedish actress Sofia Helin (The Bridge) as the beautiful, politically astute Martha, who flees the Nazis with her three young children and lives under Roosevelt’s increasingly doting protection. The eight-part series ranges back and forth across the Atlantic as diplomacy, romance, and jealousy embroil Norwegians and Americans alike.

Tonight is the series premiere of Gangs of London on AMC at 10:14/9:14c. The show previously aired on AMC+ in October 2020. Set in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic and multicultural cities, the show tells the story of a city being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it and the sudden power vacuum that’s created when the head of London’s most powerful crime family is assassinated. The series stars a multi-talented ensemble cast including Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Pure, Black Mirror), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Humans), Colm Meaney (Star Trek, Hell on Wheels, Layer Cake), Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials, Black Earth Rising, Kiri), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Suits), Paapa Essiedu (Press, Kiri), and Pippa Bennett-Warner (MatherFatherSon, Harlots, Sick Note). For 20 years, Finn Wallace (Meaney) was the most powerful criminal in London. Billions of pounds flowed through his organization each year. But now he’s dead – and nobody knows who ordered the hit. With rivals everywhere, it’s up to the impulsive Sean Wallace (Cole), with the help of the Dumani family headed by Ed Dumani (Msamati), to take his father’s place. If the situation wasn’t already dangerous enough, Sean’s assumption of power causes ripples in the world of international crime. Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Dìrísù), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family. But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organization in London. It doesn’t end with the Wallaces though, there are shadowy higher powers at play.

Finally, tonight is the series premiere of Birdgirl on Cartoon Network at 12AM/11PMc. It’s a bird… It’s a girl… It’s just Birdgirl, a new half-hour animated comedy series on Adult Swim. A character spin-off from Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, the new show centers around Birdgirl and her misfit crime-fighting clan. The series stars Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) along with the main voice cast that includes Rob Delaney (Catastrophe), Sonia Denis (Set It Up), Kether Donohue (You’re the Worst), John Doman (Blue Valentine), Negin Farsad (3rd Street Blackout), Tony Hale (Veep), and Lorelei Ramirez (Pervert Everything). In Birdgirl, 30-something Judy Ken Sebben inherits her father’s company, which would be great if that company weren’t built around the most socially irresponsible 20th Century products and practices that, on a good day, involves clearing redwood forests or operating for-profit children’s hospitals. From the halls of the company headquarters, she assembles the ragtag, non-overtime earning Birdteam. Together, they try to undo all the luridly dangerous decisions of the generation before or contain the havoc of one of their own “world-saving” products gone bad.

Tonight is the 2-hour limited series premiere of Hemingway on PBS at 8/7c. Ernest Hemingway, the iconic literary figure considered one of the greatest American writers and among the first to live and work at the treacherous nexus of art and celebrity, is the subject of a new three-part, six-hour documentary series directed by award-winning filmmakers Ken Burns and Lynn Novick. The documentary paints an intimate picture of Hemingway the writer — who captured on paper the complexities of the human condition in spare and profound prose, and whose work remains deeply influential around the world — while also penetrating the myth of Hemingway the man’s man to reveal a deeply troubled and ultimately tragic figure. The film also explores Hemingway’s limitations and biases as an artist and a man of his time.

Enter Cliff Crooks, Culinary Director of a global restaurant brand whose job entails making sure the entire enterprise runs smoothly, including hiring and firing the chefs for each kitchen. Now Cliff is taking his decades of expertise and embarking on a new mission to help struggling chefs from restaurants across the country prove that they deserve to keep running their kitchens. Nominated by their respective restaurant owners, each episode Cliff will put a trio of underperforming chefs through a grueling series of challenges to test their real-world culinary skills and fitness for the role. With their jobs on the line, these chefs will attempt to not only survive but thrive in Chef Boot Camp and prove to their owners they have the talent and passion it takes to succeed.

The special tells the remarkable true story of how, in 1968, four “average Joes” from Minnesota teamed up with a French Canadian bon vivant to make the 500-mile journey across the polar ice cap to the North Pole via snowmobile. Though they had no experience in the Arctic and were told by the so-called “experts” that their mission was doomed to fail, this working class team of “Minnesota Cronies” persevered through shifting sea ice, sub-zero blizzards, snow-blindness, and countless near-death experiences to become the first men ever to complete the overland trek to the North Pole. But that’s only half the story. With the help of acclaimed CBS journalist Charles Kuralt, the unlikely heroes of the Plaisted Polar Expedition peeled back the curtain on a cover-up more than 50 years in the making — and discovered that well-heeled explorer Robert Peary’s 1909 claim of being the first man to reach the North Pole was in all likelihood a fabrication. Brilliantly assembled with hundreds of hours of home videos, audio diaries, and 16mm footage of the expedition itself, the new special provides an intimate look at the “forgotten heroes” of the Plaisted Polar Expedition and their epic journey to do what no man had done before — and thanks to global warming, will never be done again.

Overnight was the first of six 30-minute “Real-Time Segments” for the Crackle show Going from Broke. Season 2 of Going from Broke, co-produced by Ashton Kutcher and Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, features an innovative format to bring the stories of six young people embarking on a journey to a debt-free life during a time of pandemic-induced financial turmoil. During the six weeks of production of season 2, Crackle will shoot and air segments in “real time,” taking audiences inside the dramatic process of financial transformation while inviting viewers to participate in the conversation via social media. The completion of the cast’s journey will be aired during the season 2 premiere on May 20.

Overnight was the premiere of the feature film The Power on Shudder. London, 1974. As Britain prepares for electrical blackouts to sweep across the country, trainee nurse Val (Rose Williams) arrives for her first day at the crumbling East London Royal Infirmary. With most of the patients and staff evacuated to another hospital, Val is forced to work the night shift, finding herself in a dark, near empty building. Within these walls lies a deadly secret, forcing Val to face both her own traumatic past and deepest fears in order to confront the malevolent force that’s intent on destroying everything around her.

Overnight was the premiere of the Discovery+ special Ed Gein: The Real Psycho. The iconic psychopaths featured in the blockbuster movies Silence of the Lambs, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Psycho were not just fictious villains. They were inspired by a real-life personification of evil – Ed Gein. Gein was a convicted murderer and a grave robber who had a malicious obsession with human flesh. The next installment of the hit Shock Docs franchise, Ed Gein: The Real Psycho, chronicles the horrific crimes of the heinous killer through an active paranormal investigation, archival media and cinematic recreations. Sixty years after Gein’s arrest, documentary film producer and paranormal investigator Steve Shippy and world-renowned psychic medium Cindy Kaza travel to Gein’s hometown in Plainfield, Wisconsin, to conduct investigations of the most haunted locations connected to the infamous killer. For the first time in history, cameras are allowed on the Gein property where the gruesome evidence was first discovered. Shippy and Kaza also meet up with local residents who provide insight on Gein and discover never-before-seen artifacts believed to be used by this malevolent monster on his helpless victims. With each investigation, the team reveals more evidence to determine what was behind his drive to kill. The paranormal meets the monstrous when Kaza, using her psychic abilities, holds and reads the history of a found object – the knife believed to be used on Gein’s victims. In each location, the team makes contact with the world of the dead and captures terrifying evidence of the supernatural as they seek to answer the ultimate questions: Is Plainfield haunted by Ed Gein, his mother and his victims? Does evil live on forever?
