Tonight is the series premiere of Confronting a Serial Killer on Starz at 9/8c. The five-episode series tells the timely story of the unprecedented relationship between acclaimed New York Times best-selling author and memoirist Jillian Lauren (Some Girls: My Life in a Harem) and the most prolific serial killer in American history, Samuel Little, and her race against time to identify his victims before it’s too late (Little recently died in prison at the age of 80, after having avoided justice for his crimes for decades). Lauren uncovers Little’s darkest secrets and aids law enforcement in solving a multitude of cold case murders while struggling to reconcile her own history of addiction and abuse with her present-day mission to return the identities of previously nameless bodies and forgotten women. As she slips deeper into his sordid world, Jillian realizes that she may become, psychologically, Little’s last victim. Through the perspectives of Lauren, as well as several female members of law enforcement, multiple investigators, survivors and victims’ family members, Confronting a Serial Killer shines a light on systemic issues within the criminal justice system including bias against marginalized communities, particularly women of color, and those struggling with addiction, mental illness, and trauma.

Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Chopped 420 – Discovery+. In each of the five hour-long episode, four talented and experienced chefs create ganja-infused dishes that must not only provide a buzz but also wow a panel of recurring judges, including chef Esther Choi, drag performer and cannabis activist Laganja Estranja, chef Luke Reyes, chef Sam Talbot, and comedian Tacarra Williams, to avoid being chopped. During an episode, the chefs contend with spot prawns and borscht in the appetizer round. In the entrée round, the remaining chefs are greeted with chocolate dentures, an ingredient you’d have to be high to come up with, while the last two competitors standing blaze into the dessert round only to be faced with a bottle of ketchup. The chef that keeps a clear head despite all the haze in the air will be crowned the 420 champion. Other episodes feature host Ron Funches presenting the chefs with sake popsicles to use in their dishes that will have the judges flying high and seeing double; but which chef will bring the judges back down to earth with a good old chocolate milk for dessert? And see what happens when the chefs must use cannabis to compliment the duo of armadillo eggs and eel.

Overnight was the complete first season premiere of Cinema Toast on Sho.com. Created by Jeff Baena and produced by the Duplass Brothers, Cinema Toast is a post-modernist reinvention of older movies that turns pre-existing imagery from the public domain on its head to tell brand new unique stories. Directors include Baena, Jay Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Alex Ross Perry, Marta Cunningham, Aubrey Plaza, Numa Perrier, Jordan Firstman, Kris Rey and David Lowery. The episodes are voiced by actors including Alison Brie, Nick Offerman, Fred Armisen, John Early, Christina Ricci, Megan Mullally, Chloe Fineman and Chris Meloni. The series offers a wide range of stories spanning genres including drama, horror and comedy. Plaza’s psychological thriller Quiet Illness pieces together footage of Loretta Young to create a portrait of an emotionally tortured modern woman, while Cunningham’s Attack of the Karens shows just how timely the classic Night of the Living Dead is when re-contextualized within this last year in America. In After the End, Eslyn injects the beloved monster movie Beast From Haunted Cave with a mumblecore comedy sensibility. And with Report on the Canine Auto-Mechanical Soviet Threat, Perry creates a surreal journey from Soviet rarities about a young boy who is immersed in a new reality inhabited by talking cars and telepathic dogs.

Tonight is the series premiere of Cruel Summer on Freeform at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10/9c. This is a psychological thriller that follows two young women: Kate Wallis, the popular girl with a charmed life who one day goes missing, and Jeanette Turner, the nerdy wannabe who is accused of being connected to Kate’s disappearance. All signs point to Jeanette’s guilt, but is Kate really who she seems to be? Set over three summers and told through shifting points of view, the series challenges perception and follows how one girl can go from being a sweet outlier to the most despised person in America. The series stars Olivia Holt, Chiara Aurelia, Michael Landes, Froy Gutierrez, Harley Quinn Smith, Allius Barnes, Blake Lee and Brooklyn Sudano.

Tonight is the series premiere of Philly DA on PBS at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10/9c. In 2017, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania had one of the highest incarceration rates of any major city in the United States. And it’s become the epicenter of a historic experiment that could shape the future of prosecution in America for decades to come. When civil rights attorney Larry Krasner mounted a long-shot campaign to become District Attorney, he ran on a bold pledge: to end mass incarceration by changing the culture of the criminal justice system from within. He shocked the establishment by winning in a landslide. Now, the bureaucrats he spent his campaign denigrating are his co-workers; the police he alienated are his rank-and-file law enforcers. Pressure comes from all sides of a system resistant to reform. Krasner’s unapologetic promise to use the power of the D.A.’s office for sweeping change is what got him elected; now that he’s in office, that same stubbornness threatens to alienate those he needs to work with the most. From the eye of this political storm, filmmakers Ted Passon, Yoni Brook, and Nicole Salazar gained unprecedented access into Krasner’s office and behind the scenes of the criminal justice system. Over the course of eight episodes, Philly D.A. explores the most pressing social issues of our time—police brutality, the opioid crisis, gun violence, and mass incarceration—through the lens of an idealistic team attempting fundamental overhaul from within the system.

Tonight is the series premiere of Hustle & Tow on A&E at 10/9c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 10:30/9:30c. The show documents the dangerous world of tow truck drivers as they work to keep drivers safe. It pops the hood to take a close-up look at America’s unsung essential workers who perform daily under extremely dangerous conditions, despite every imaginable encounter with unexpected terrain, wildlife and weather: tow truck drivers. These hard-working men and women respond to a massive array of calls from recovering stolen cars, to handling contentious impounds, clearing behemoth big rig wrecks, rescuing families who have veered off the highway and much more. Embedded with diverse shops and drivers in both rural and urban communities across the country, “Hustle & Tow” offers viewers a rugged “day-in-the-life” perspective on tow truck drivers, where depending on the call drivers can either be hailed as heroes or labeled as villains. These drivers – part-mechanics and part-first responders – endeavor to keep the country mobile while moving from one call to the next to get the job done.

  1. Michael Mock says:

For some reason, N.C.I.S., FBI & FBI Most Wanted on 4/20 were all reruns – not new episodes as your site indicated?? Do you update your site when things like this happen? I was very angry with my carrier until I found your info was wrong &/or not current. I rely on your site and appreciate your efforts to produce it.

    • Jenny says:

Sorry I didn’t update it. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. Depends on whether or not I have time. Yesterday new episodes were replaced with reruns because of the Derek Chauvin verdict.
