Overnight was the premiere of the documentary special 72 Seconds in Rittenhouse Square on Paramount+. Blurring true crime and legal thriller, the film asks one of the most critical questions of our time: what does justice look like? And who, exactly, gets to decide? This immersive special is a story of contrasts: life and death, freedom and incarceration, black and white, rich and poor. It’s the intertwining stories of two young men – one an aspiring rapper, one a well-off developer -whose lives collide on July 12th, 2018 in Philadelphia’s Rittenhouse Square. Dining out in the city’s most upscale historic neighborhood, Rittenhouse feels a world away from the mean streets of West Philly. But one sultry July night, those worlds intersected. Details were sketchy: a traffic dispute, a deliveryman, a shouting match. But one thing was clear, Sean Schellenger, a 37-year-old real estate developer, had been stabbed to death and his killer was in the wind. Viewers are immersed in a frenzy of 911 calls, surveillance footage, and conflicting eyewitness accounts. Unexpectedly, within 48 hours, the killer turns himself in. He is twenty-year-old Michael White, a black Philadelphian with no criminal record, potentially facing first-degree murder charges for what the media depicts as the cold-blooded murder of an innocent white man. The story takes another unexpected turn when cell phone footage emerges that calls into question the media’s predictable narrative and raises a tantalizing question: who was the real aggressor in the confrontation? Michael White or Sean Schellenger? Charges are reduced from third-degree murder to manslaughter and the trial’s outcome will leave one community boiling with rage and another satisfied that justice was done. Did the famously progressive DA play to his political base? How can the city of brotherly love heal from an incident that to this day is an open wound for many? Shifting perspectives with a “Rashomon” effect, 72 Seconds in Rittenhouse Square features exclusive access to the Schellenger and White families candidly grappling with an event that has turned their lives upside down. The documentary is a provocative look at our innate biases and our deepest fears, and how ostensible facts get interpreted differently when viewed through the prism of race and class.

Overnight was the stand-up comedy special Luenell: Town Business on Netflix. Fasten your seat belts as Luenell sounds off on bad seatmates, first-class feuds, sockless babies and more travel mishaps in this brash stand-up special.

Today, the Greenwood District is a community rebuilding, a journey of strength and joy examined in this unique uplifting renovation docuseries. Over the course of six episodes, Chestnut and build teams, led by designers Jon Pierre and Mary Tjon-Joe-Pin (Two Steps Home), guide viewers through Greenwood’s rich history and the personal journeys of those featured – many of whom are the descendants of original Black Wall Street residents. As new businesses and projects progress, viewers will experience the physical and emotional challenges that come with large-scale construction and celebrate the promise of Greenwood’s future.

Overnight were two new specials for Marvel Studios Legends on Disney+. In “Variants,” Who is Loki? Is he a raven-haired chap in a green suit with a penchant for deception and depravity? Is he instead a she with blonde hair who prefers to be called Sylvie? Or could Loki actually be an overly sensitive alligator with golden horns and a taste for cats? Truth be told, Loki is all of the above — thanks to the existence of numerous Variants. Okay… so what exactly is a Variant? This special holds the answer to that critical question, and more. A Variant is an individual that doesn’t belong to the so-called “sacred timeline,” and thus hails from a kind of alternate reality where there might exist a very different version of Loki, or someone called Mobius, or Renslayer, or Kang. Still having trouble making sense of it all? Fear not, Legends has got you covered! Then in “TVA,” there is a “sacred timeline” — a timeline that must be protected at all costs. And let’s hope that you and I are a genuine part of it. For if not, we might one day be visited by agents of the Time Variance Authority — agents who will be obligated to “prune” us and banish us to a nightmarish world that resides in perpetual isolation at the absolute end of time. Legends explores the mysterious origins of the TVA, and sifts the fact from the fiction. Are the Time-Keepers truly a trio of godlike beings responsible for the TVA’s creation? Or, could they merely be artificial figureheads meant to obscure the identity of some flesh-and-blood mastermind possessing secrets both dark and ancient? This special holds every answer.

Overnight was the premiere of the feature film Meg 2: The Trench on Max. Get ready for the ultimate adrenaline rush this summer in Meg 2: The Trench, a literally larger-than-life thrill ride that supersizes the 2018 blockbuster and takes the action to higher heights and even greater depths with multiple massive Megs and so much more! Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse-pounding race against time. Immerse yourself in the most electrifying cinematic experience of the year with Meg 2: The Trench – where the depths of the ocean are matched only by the heights of sheer, unstoppable excitement! The ensemble cast also includes Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.

Overnight was the feature film Nightmare on Shudder. Mona and Robby are a young couple in love. Robby has just landed his dream job, and they’ve scored an amazing deal on a spacious, if run-down, flat. Never mind that it requires quite a bit of renovation. Never mind the neighbors’ constant fighting, and screaming baby… Never mind that Mona is suddenly plagued by night terrors which grow more intense every time she falls asleep… Robby is eager to start a family, despite Mona’s hesitation. Eventually, Mona’s issues spiral dangerously out of control as she becomes convinced that she is being attacked by a mythical demon – the Mare – intent on possessing her unborn child.

Tonight is the TV movie Mystery Island on HMM at 9/8c. London Police psychiatrist Dr. Emilia Priestly (Elizabeth Henstridge) needs to take a relaxing break from her stressful job, so her wealthy friend, Baroness Jane Alcott (Kezia Burrows, Crash), invites her to Mystery Island, an immersive murder-mystery-themed resort hosting a special retreat for the original investors. As the mystery game begins, tragedy strikes: John Murtaugh (Robert Getman) the resort’s reclusive founder, is murdered. The visitors are confined to the island as local detective Jason Trent (Charlie Weber) investigates the case. Once Emilia proves her innocence, she makes use of her special skills to help Jason find the murderer. The lines between game and reality are blurred as they unravel the web of romance, revenge, and betrayal behind the resort, its guests, and its elusive founder.
