Tonight is the series premiere of New Orleans: Soul of a City on CNN at 9/8c. Timed to the twentieth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the fiftieth birthday of the stadium that came to symbolize both refuge and renewal, tonight is a special preview of the show’s premiere episode, “Rebirth of the Superdome.” Twenty years ago, Hurricane Katrina tore through the Gulf Coast, flooding much of New Orleans and driving tens of thousands to seek shelter in the storm-battered Superdome. Once a scene of desperation, the stadium became a cornerstone of the city’s recovery — its revival culminating in the New Orleans Saints’ 2010 Super Bowl win, a moment that told the world the city was back. “Rebirth of the Superdome” features interviews with former Saints players Malcolm Jenkins, Deuce McAllister, and Devery Henderson, former mayor Mitch Landrieu, former Superdome general manager Doug Thornton, Wendell Pierce, James Carville, Pam Oliver, Emeril Lagasse, Wynton Marsalis and other New Orleans icons. While the first episode tells the story of the Superdome, the full four-part series explores the many ways the city communes with its history — through music, food, sports, and tradition — revealing how, 20 years after Katrina, New Orleans is louder and more resilient than ever. Following this special preview event, New Orleans: Soul of a City will premiere all four episodes beginning on Sunday, October 5.

In August 2005, the world’s most famous pair of shoes – a pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz – was stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in her hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The case quickly made global headlines as the Grand Rapids Police Department and eventually the FBI worked to crack the case with little more than a single sequin left behind at the crime scene. For the first time, Ruby Red Handed: Stealing America’s Most Famous Pair of Shoes goes inside the wild, fast-paced story of how the case was ultimately cracked, culminating in the slippers being sold at auction for over $28 million, the most ever for memorabilia. Through exclusive access to the Grand Rapids police department filmed over the last eight years and exclusive elements and interviews with key players, this documentary takes viewers inside the story as it unfolds, bringing this caper to life often in ways so absurd it’s hard to believe it actually happened. More than a true crime story, the series offers a fascinating look at the life and legacy of film and television icon Judy Garland, The Wizard of Oz, and the history of Hollywood memorabilia on and off the black market.

Tonight is the series premiere of Crossroad Springs on Great American Family at 8/7c. The series follows the Hamilton family, adult siblings James and Janet, their aging family members, dad Willis and Aunt Amy, who are eking out a living on Hamilton Ranch with financial hardships and staffing shortages. James, a pastor in Chicago, and Janet, an ER doctor in a neighboring town, feel called to return home to help the family. Once there, the siblings encounter the son of the owner of the neighboring farm, Daniel Newman, who are all wary of each other due to a generational feud between the families. As he settles into his new day-to-day life on the farm, James begins to realize there are no places to worship on the thousands of acres of farms. There, in the environment of come-as-you-are vibes, barns, rodeo arenas, even outdoors under clear night skies, James starts a cowboy church right there in the place where faith, family, and ranch life go hand in hand. Starring Jonathan Stoddard (A Royal Christmas Ballet), Emily Alatalo (Christmas In Maple Hills), Shaun Johnston (Heartland), Kate Drummond (Heartland), Brittany Underwood (A Royal Christmas Ballet), Jesse Hutch (A Little Women’s Christmas), Jon McLaren (When Hope Calls), Erin Agostino (The Jingle Bell Jubilee), and Franco Lo Presti (Bad Blood).
