The “Arrowverse’s” epic return continues tonight when DC’s Legends of Tomorrow comes back.

This is another show that ended on a crazy cliff hanger last year, which left us some hint of what this year’s season 4 might be about. In last spring’s finale, Damien Darhk sacrificed himself to become the demon Malice instead of his daughter, Nora. (Why are Darhk & Flash’s daughters named the same??!?!) Mya and Ray meanwhile took some shaman drug to commune with the ancestral totem bearers to learn how to use the totems to defeat the demon.

The team was hiding out in temporal anomalous zone: Salvation Montana in the 1860s. They met up with Johna Hex once again & also got to see Jefferson Jackson, who used to be Firestorm. Jefferson had aged five years since they last saw him, and he had a wife & child now. Unfortunately undead armies of Roman soldiers, pirates, & vikings showed up soon enough, representing Malice’s agenda. In the “High Noon” battle with the undead legions, they at first defeated them all, but Malice just reanimated them again. So the Legends had to pool the powers of the totems to become the champion that could defeat the demon. They formed into a giant “Bebo” stuffed doll and promptly kicked Malice’s butt!

In the celebrations that followed, though, mystic warrior John Constantine showed up and told them that by destroying Malice, they had cause massive repercussions through the world of the supernatural. That set the tone for what we have to look forward to in this next year. Also Mya returned to her own timeline, and she and Ray broke up, but we knew that was coming. She only was on the waverider to complete this totem arc. We know that Legends will not be part of the Elseworlds crossover that The Flash, Arrow, & Supergirl will be doing (a crossover which will launch the upcoming CW show Batwoman!!!). But looks like they will be teaming up with Constantine. This show is always funny and has so much heart. Here’s to hoping for four more years!

On tonight’s episode, “The Virgin Gary,” after the Legends defeated Mallus and wiped the final anachronism from time, they find themselves in unfamiliar territory with the Time Bureau. All that changes when Constantine informs Sara of a new magical threat that leads the team to Woodstock. Constantine thinks he knows how to defeat the new threat but will need the help of the team and their special klepto talents to help with his spell. Meanwhile, Nate and Rory go on an adventure, leaving Nate facing someone from his past.

Find out what threat leads the team to Woodstock tonight on The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Arrow.

One of my favorite things about October is that it brings the Halloween-themed TV episodes, and tonight Halloween hits the FOX Sunday lineup. The Simpsons opens the night with its annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode, which features homages to Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Split, and Jurassic Park. This was originally going to be my recommendation for the night, until I checked out tonight’s episode of Bob’s Burgers. I always enjoy this series, but the Halloween episodes especially so. No other show seems to bring me back to the fun times of trick-or-treating as a child like this one does. Though the Belcher kids always have far more creative costumes and always get mixed up in some crazy adventure during their annual quest for candy. Tonight’s may be my favorite Halloween episode since the show’s first one back in season 3. Besides the ingenious costumes that pop up throughout, Gene has some hilarious one-liners, and there’s a really fun side plot involving Bob and Teddy.

On tonight’s episode of The Simpsons, “Treehouse of Horror XXIX,” Homer wins an oyster-eating contest against the mythical Cthulhu; Springfield is overrun by plant body-snatchers; Lisa finally snaps; Mr. Burns opens a retirement home with some Jurassic upgrades.

Then, in Bob’s Burgers, “Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street,” the kids set out for their regular Halloween shenanigans, but when everyone’s candy bags start mysteriously disappearing, it’s up to Tina, Louise, and Gene to find the culprit.

To see the Halloween fun, tune in to FOX starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording God Friended Me, Family Guy, Supergirl, The Walking Dead, Doctor Who, You, Camping, and Kidding.

The cartoon Teen Titans has easily been one of the most popular comic book based TV shows of all time. A generation of Millenials grew up loving it, which makes it slightly past my prime “after school cartoon watching” days. But I have seen it before and DO love most TV shows about superheroes. So I tuned in last week for the premier of the latest iteration of that team, a live action show simply called Titans. It began in the familiar setting of Dick “Robin” Grayson’s origin story: his parents died during a trapeze act right before Dick’s eyes. Only there was only one girl in the audience this time, and when she awakened we realized that was just her nightmare. Odd, but okay. Grayson, we found out, irl (in real life) was transferring to a police department in Detroit after things with his old partner in Gotham went sour.

The next day, the girl who had the vision, Rachel, came home to find her mom being held at gunpoint. The assailant made the woman admit that she was not her real mom, and then he shot her dead. Rachel then unleashed a screaming blast that knocked the guy back fifteen feet into a wall. She hurriedly grabbed some things and ran away. Grayson meanwhile was tracking a child abuser. He single-handedly beat up two gangs at once just to warn the abuser away from his child. There was definite R-rated violence in this scene, punctuated with a controversial line spat by Robin: “Fuck Batman.” I was like whoa… “Twenty minutes into this show, and they’ve gone out of their way to demonstrate that this is NOT a cartoon on Disney XD.”

When Rachel got to Detroit, a social services lady tried to kidnap her. A dark manifestation of herself spoke to her in reflective surfaces, warning her of the imminent danger. To get away, she threw a brick at a cop car, so they took her into custody. Grayson questioned her, and she instantly recognized that he was the one she’d been having nightmares about. CUT TO: on the other side of earth, a girl who stole my pinkish-purple hair color woke up in a car. The driver was smashed into a deflated airbag next to her. The vehicle was riddled with bullets and splattered with blood. Another car soon drove up, and armed men chased the lovely young lady into the woods. A caption informed us this was in Austria. After she killed most of them, she started to deal with the fact she had amnesia. And also apparently some super powers. She discovered her name was Glory and tracked down her ex-bf, a Russian mobster, for more info on her ID. He revealed she betrayed him, and then he shot her. But her powers flipped on, and she burned all the men in the room to ashes. And we learned that she had been in pursuit of “Rachel” as well.

Rachel had now been kidnapped by a cop, but Grayson watched this happen and followed them. While a mad man with a knife sought to cut out Rachel’s heart in some depraved magic ceremony, Robin was searching the old building for them. But a powerful magic came out of Rachel first, killing the evil magician. His death was bruuuuuutal to say the least. Robin came in after the dark power returned to inside Rachel, who remained tied to a chair the whole time. Robin then drove her out of town, saying he would take her to safety. Meanwhile in Ohio, a glowing green tiger stole a Blu-ray disc from a Walmart. Beast Boy! Roll credits.

On the show’s second episode, “Hawk and Dove,” Hank Hall aka Hawk and Dawn Granger aka Dove are a pair of vigilantes, hoping to get out of the superhero business after shutting down one final criminal operation. When Dick arrives at their doorstep with Rachel, looking for a safe haven for the hunted child, his reappearance after many years causes strife between all three of them. Still traumatized over the death of her mother, Rachel struggles to trust Dick. But all their differences must be put aside when a lethal Nuclear Family, sent by The Organization, is activated with the sole purpose of capturing Rachel.

The episode premiered super early this morning at 3AM ET, so you can catch it now on the new DC streaming service.

I will also be starting my Daredevil season three binge and catching Murphy Brown.

My pick tonight is ABC’s latest drama, The Rookie, starring Castle vet, Nathan Fillion, who plays John Nolan, a small-town guy who pursues his dream of being an LAPD officer after an incident one day changes the way he looks at his life. He’s the force’s oldest rookie, so many of the higher-ups feel like he’s just a “walking midlife crisis,” and some are even really hard on him, since if he can’t keep up, he’ll not only be a danger to himself but to the public and other officers out there with him.

I was a big Castle (& Nathan Fillion) fan and was sad when it ended, even though the last few seasons weren’t as great as the beginning. I’m an even bigger fan of cop shows, so combine Nathan, cop shows, and a few producers from some of my all-time favorite shows like Criminal Minds & Human Target, and you know I’m going to look forward to it. When I got a chance to watch the pilot, I was both scared and excited – excited, because, duh…and scared because I was worried it wouldn’t live up to my expectations. But it did, even more than I’d hoped. There’s some serious story lines, but there’s also that Fillion charm and some laughs and romance as well, so I have my fingers crossed that it’ll be as popular with others as I think it should be.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” after a life-altering incident, John Nolan decides to pursue his dream of becoming a police officer; as the force’s oldest rookie, John is met with skepticism from some higher-ups.

Find out why John decides to join the police department tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Conners, The Little Couple, NCIS, The Kids Are Alright, Chopped, FBI, Lethal Weapon, NCIS: New Orleans, & Sweet Home Sextuplets.

The return of the “Arrowverse” continues tonight when the flagship show, which launched it all, returns for Arrow season seven. After a long-winding series of battles and betrayals, last year’s finale found Team Arrow storming Star City Police Department in pursuit of the evil mastermind Diaz. While the FBI, Arrow, and all his active teammates beat the crap out of the goons occupying the building, Diaz managed to escape. Fortunately they still had Oliver’s old Bratva pal Anatoli Knyazev in custody, and he gave up Diaz’s location for immunity on some charges. It turned out to be a trap though, and Maddog almost died!

Police Chief Lance cut a deal with Diaz after that, desperate to get Black Siren – his daughter’s doppelgänger from Earth2 – back from the gangsters alive. He was ready to order the FBI out of the investigation but only if Diaz showed him proof the alternate Laurel was alive. Since Lance had a pacemaker in his heart, Felicity was able to track him, and they sent in a rescue team. During this action, there were hints that Oliver cut some secret deal with the FBI. During the rescue, Diaz gut-shot Lance, bringing him near to death. Artemis saved Black Siren & Lance both, though. She also blasted Diaz off a roof into the river while he was fighting Oliver.

While Captain Lance was in surgery, his daughters from alternate worlds met each other. The exchange was cold, as they’re both kinda cold-hearted killers. Sadly Lance died. Even worse, Oliver had to admit that he was the real Green Arrow and then surrendered into FBI custody. He was sent to a SuperMax prison. That’s the deal he cut, in exchange for help from the FBI against Diaz. In the public confession speech, he also encouraged his team to remain vigilant in their fight to keep the city safe. The very last scene of the season was Oliver entering prison.

I read some of Stephen Amell’s recent interviews, and from what I gather, Oliver “Green Arrow” Queen, whom Amell plays in the series, will be in prison for a much longer time than fans may be expecting. This signals that the show runners may have adapted a Green Arrow movie script, which was based on Oliver having to face old enemies in a Super Max prison into the general arc of Arrow season seven. Tonight is just the start though, and I can’t wait to see where the show goes, as long as Felicity is in it!! Also: Bring back Ragman!!!

On tonight’s episode, “Inmate 4587,” at Slabside Maximum Security Prison, Oliver is determined to keep a low profile to shorten his sentence; Oliver is tested when he runs into old foes; Diggle and Dinah have taken on new jobs and left their costumes behind.

See how Oliver is handling prison tonight on The CW at 8/7c.

Other than this premiere, I’ll also be watching an episode of my The Man In The High Castle slow binge that has been happening for a week.
