I love Wednesday nights because of #OneChicago. Having all three Chicago-based dramas on one night is awesome. And even though tonight is the fall finale for all three, I’m still excited for it – maybe especially because it’s the fall finales. They’ve promised that all three will be filled with surprises and excitement…and having seen a screener for each of them, I can promise they weren’t lying! Between Will & Natalie on Med, Casey, Naomi, Severide, & Kidd on Fire, and Atwater and the others on PD, there’s plenty of drama, shockers, and even tears on tap tonight.

On tonight’s episode of Chicago Med, “Death Do Us Part,” Will and Natalie prepare for their big day, but an unsuspecting Will soon finds himself sidetracked. Dr. Charles disagrees with Goodwin on how to best handle a patient’s treatment while Dr. Choi and April are on their own when a pregnant woman delivers. Dr. Rhodes finds himself operating on a patient that is of great importance to Det. Halstead.

Then on Chicago Fire, “Always a Catch,” stakes are high when a massive car pile-up on the freeway impacts someone dear to the firehouse family. Brett and Foster encounter a harrowing call while Kidd and Severide find their relationship being tested.

Finally on Chicago PD, “Descent,” in an attempt to dig himself out of a hole and save someone close to him, Antonio (Jon Seda) crosses a line that puts the entire team at risk.

Don’t miss all the excitement tonight on NBC starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Goldbergs, American Housewife, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Property Brothers, SEAL Team, Single Parents, & Criminal Minds.

Tonight, Syfy launches the new sci-fi psychological thriller Nightflyers, which is based off the 1980 novella by Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin. The series is set in the year 2093 and follows the crew of The Nightflyer, a colonizing ship that is on a mission to make first contact with an alien race known as the Volcryn in order to learn valuable information to save a dying Earth. The ship’s captain is the enigmatic Roy Eris (David Ajala, Falling Water), who stays confined to his quarters, only interacting with the others via a hologram. Leading the expedition is professor Karl D’Branin (Eoin Macken, The Night Shift), who left his wife and daughter behind to participate in the 2-year mission. Joining him is psychiatrist Dr. Agatha Matheson (Gretchen Mol, Boardwalk Empire), who has brought an L-1 telepath on board to help communicate with the aliens. Members of the crew consider Thale (Sam Strike, EastEnders) to be a monster – his ability to get into people’s minds and play with their thoughts and visions is dangerous and deadly, and they don’t trust him. The crew also includes the captain’s right-hand man Auggie (Brían F. O’Byrne, Manhunt: Unabomber), xenobiologist Rowan (Angus Sampson, Shut Eye), mission specialist Melantha Jhirl (Jodie Turner-Smith, The Last Ship), and mechanic Lommie (Maya Eshet, Teen Wolf), who has the ability to talk to the ship via a neural implant.

As the series opens, we flash forward to some horrific events resembling The Shining in space. Then we jump back to the “present” and the start of the mission. However, it isn’t long before things on the ship start to malfunction, deadly things start to happen, and the suspicion and distrust starts to spread. While the crew is quick to point the finger at Thale, Karl and Agatha try to find out what’s really happening. But this is just the beginning of the horrors that are to come – and there’s nowhere to run or hide in space! Syfy made the first two episodes of the series available early via On Demand. I wasn’t as immediately sucked into this show like I was when I checked out the first episode of YouTube’s similar series Origin. I hope that we get a little more backstory on these characters over the course of the season, but the central mystery of what’s really going on on the ship is certainly enough to keep me initially interested in checking out more of this series. Things look like they are going to get really creepy, and if Game of Thrones is any indicator, we probably shouldn’t get too attached to any of these characters!

Syfy will be rolling out the season very rapidly, with episodes 1-5 debuting Sunday, December 2 through Thursday, December 6 at 10/9c, and episodes 6-10 on Sunday, December 9 through Thursday, December 13 at 10/9c with limited commercial interruption across all platforms. Weekend marathons will give fans an additional opportunity to catch up on the series. In addition, it sounds like all 10 episodes will be made available for streaming in parallel with tonight’s premiere.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, I got the chance to speak with some of the cast/creators of the series. Check out my interviews from the press room for the series at NoReruns.net.

On tonight’s premiere, “All That We Left Behind,” a team of scientists join the crew of the Nightflyer on a journey to make contact with alien life.

Check out the beginning of this latest journey into space tonight on Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Supergirl, Doctor Who, and Camping.

Last year, Netflix joined in the game of making holiday-themed movies like those romantic comedies and dramas that flood Lifetime and Hallmark this time of year. One of Netflix’s immensely popular original films last winter was A Christmas Prince, and today the streaming service launches the sequel, A Christmas Prince: The Royal Wedding.

In the original film, American magazine journalist Amber Moore (Rose McIver, iZombie) was sent to the nation of Aldovia to cover the story of playboy Prince Richard (Ben Lamb, The White Queen), who was set to take the throne following his father’s recent death. There were rumors that he might abdicate, so Amber started snooping through the castle, where she was mistaken for young Princess Emily’s new tutor. Amber decided to run with that and use her new position to investigate the rumors. She uncovered evidence that Richard had been adopted, and this caused a contention as to the proper heir to the throne. By the end, Emily and Richard had both fallen in love with Amber, despite her initial dishonesty, and Richard was ultimately deemed the proper heir. Amber went back home to start a popular blog about Richard and her adventures, but as there is always a happy ending in these stories, on New Year’s Eve, Richard showed up at Amber’s father’s diner and proposed to her.

Tonight the story continues. It’s been nearly a year since the proposal, and the couple is planning a Christmas wedding. However, some wrenches are thrown into their plans – a political crisis puts the kingdom in jeopardy, and Amber starts to question whether she has it in her to be a queen. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that everything probably works out in the end and the happy couple will tie the knot! I don’t know what it is about this time of year, but I always get sucked into watched these predictable but fun holiday TV movies. I really enjoyed the first A Christmas Prince, so I’m looking forward to checking out the sequel tonight. Netflix has been making some really great holiday films this year! Last week’s The Christmas Chronicles is another fun one to check out!

Check out this fun Christmas flick now on Netflix!

I’ll also be watching/recording Child Support.

Tonight, NBC premieres a new 2-part special, LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit, which combines two of my favorite franchises. The story is set before the events of the first Jurassic World film. Simon Masrani, the founder of Jurassic World, has come up with an amazing new exhibit for the park. He tasks right-hand-woman Claire Dearing with transporting three dinosaurs across the park to the top-secret attraction. So Claire hires animal behaviorist Owen Grady, sight-unseen, to help her in this task. Of course, things don’t go as smoothly as planned – and not just due to the personality clash between the pair. What seemed like a simple task quickly turns into a wild adventure.

I have been a fan of the LEGO franchise for a long time – first the video games and then the movies. They are always so much fun, mixing humor and action with lots of great pop-culture references. Add to that the characters and setting from the Jurassic Park/World films, which are among my all-time favorite movies, and how could you go wrong?! A couple years ago NBC aired another LEGO Jurassic World special, but this one is twice as long and also gives us more of an origin story, showing the first meetings between Claire and Owen and Owen and Blue. This special looks like it will be a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to check out the back-to-back parts tonight!

Catch the two-part special tonight on NBC starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Will & Grace and I Feel Bad.

This Wodensday night promises to be a bloody good TV night, as Vikings season 5B kicks off! The last half season culminated with two pairs of brothers leading armies against each other. Ivar the Boneless & Harald Finehair have gone to war with Bjorn Ironside & Halfdan the Black. Bjorn, eldest son of Ragnar, led his army to a recent victory against his younger brother Ivar’s forces, but now his Uncle Rollo is sending Frankish reinforcements. This second major battle between the armies took up most of the episode, though for a few moments we checked in on Iceland and Floki’s follies there.

The finale utilized a repeating flashback plot mechanism wherein characters at a moment of possible death flashback to other parts of their life. They were able to do this because several main characters died while others merely come face to face with their mortality. Lagertha, Bjorn’s mother and queen of Kattegat, killed her ex-lover Astrid, when Astrid confronted her in the middle of the battle. She confessed that she was carrying Harald’s baby in her womb and that she didn’t want the baby; she wanted death instead, and Lagertha gave it to her. The brothers Halfdan & Harald faced off on the battleground as well, and sadly history told us Halfdan was the one who must die. Harald would go on to become the first King of Norway.

Harald and Ivar won this particular battle, and Bjorn & his mother called for a retreat shortly after the arrival of the reinforcements that Rollo sent. In the aftermath of having to kill her ex-lover and an unborn child, Lagertha’s hair all went stark white. Over in Iceland, Floki’s inability to keep his townspeople from quarreling had escalated to murder and promises of vengeance. To quell this madness, Floki made the slighted family the governor and offered himself as a sacrifice to the gods. He didn’t go through with it yet though, so we have plenty to look forward to tonight. Can’t wait!!!

On tonight’s episode, “The Revelation,” legendary Viking Duke Rollo arrives, causing further upheaval in a Kattegat still reeling from Ivar the Boneless becoming its king; Floki battles the elements in Iceland, and his own settlers’ desire for revenge, to forge a colony.

Don’t miss the exciting midseason premiere tonight on History Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be going down to South Park, gonna have myself a time.
