If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/2/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice

Last week’s Hawaii Five-0 was as good as I’d hoped it would be. Jerry is a fun character, and seeing him as a kid, with his friends in the woods, was cute. He swore he saw a murder and believed there was a body buried out there. He and his friends went over to the scary old man’s house in the woods – the one who all the ghost stories were about. Jerry even sneaked inside, only to get caught hiding in the closet. He ran screaming from the house before the man could get him. Jerry and his friends have gone back every year to try to find the body Jerry swore was there. This year, his friends have all decided they’ve had enough. They went along with it for that long just to placate him, but they’re tired of it.

But this year’s different. With Noelani’s & Eric’s help and the assistance of a ground-penetrating radar machine or whatever, they found a bone. Unfortunately, it was a dog bone. It started to rain, and everyone scattered – Jerry’s friends went back to the cabin they were staying in, while Noelani & Eric took the machine back to the car before going back to the cabin themselves. Jerry was so sure he was right that he told them he was going to dig more because sometimes animals were buried on top of humans to keep scavengers from getting to the human bones. He dug and dug and dug…only to find more bones…of a human this time. Turned out he was right after all. The bad guy then came to the cabin and tried to burn it down or smoke them out when they barricaded all the doors and windows, but just before he could start it, Bo Bradley (the man all the scary stories were about) shot him to save their lives. He was simply a recluse who let the rumors about him live in order to keep campers away from his house.

The other story line last week was great too. The team investigated when parents found a drawing their little girl had done a couple of weeks before that depicted the body of a redhaired woman wearing a necklace…and that woman with that necklace was just on the news of being found that day. And that wasn’t the only drawing the parents found. The parents also mentioned that the little girl had an imaginary friend who she talked to and that’s who the daughter said drew the pictures. Five-0 had the drawings checked with a handwriting analyst or something, and sure enough, the daughter’s was different than whoever had colored the pictures with the bodies. In the end, it turned out the “imaginary friend” was a real live little girl who was being forced to help her father kidnap women who resembled his ex-wife, who was a drug addict. Five-0 captured the guy and rescued the girl, who was reunited with her mother, who was now clean and sober. It was a freaky story with a great ending.

Last but not least, Tani heard from Captain Keo about the gun she found in Adam’s kitchen drawer…and he confirmed it had been used to kill Adam’s half-sister. So now Tani has to figure out what to do. Ugh. I hate this story line. I wish she’d just ignored the gun when she found it!

On tonight’s episode, “Aia i Hi’ikua; i Hi’ialo (Is Borne on the Back; Is Borne in the Arms),” McGarrett crosses the line and is arrested while investigating the death of his former SEAL buddy, who died while making an emergency landing on an aircraft carrier, and the only survivor is a baby. Also, Adam returns to Oahu with some devastating news about his marriage.

Learn the fate of Adam’s marriage (no surprise, I’d think…) tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Last Man Standing, MacGyver, The Cool Kids, Hell’s Kitchen, & Blue Bloods.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/1/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Kyle’s Choice

Last week, NBC’s The Good Place headed off in a new direction as the Soul Squad went on their first mission. Michael, Jason, and Tahani headed to Florida to try to save Jason’s father…who turned out to be the “Donkey Doug” that Jason is always referring to! The group tried to get Doug to get his mechanic’s license and start on an honest career path. However, he and Pillboi had other plans – they had invented Double Trouble, a product that was half energy drink/half body spray. And now they were planning to rob three factories – one for the energy drink, one for the body spray, and one for the bottles – to realize their vision. The group decided to just call Donkey Doug a lost cause and instead focused on saving Pillboi. They scared him straight by posing as secret astronaut spies from NASA (which, of course, was Jason’s idea).

Meanwhile, Chidi was afraid that if he stayed with Simone, he would be unable to lie to her and would ultimately tell her the truth about what was going on, thus damning her to the Bad Place. So Janet created a virtual reality machine that he could use to test every breakup scenario to find one that worked. Things didn’t quite go as smoothly as planned when Chidi had to do the break-up in reality, but he managed to get through it. Afterwards, the group headed to Budapest, where they planned to save Tahani’s sister, whose museum exhibit was about to open. However, Janet casually revealed that one of Eleanor’s parents was not technically, actually dead and that Eleanor’s mother had in fact faked her own death. So Eleanor decided to head back to America to have a reckoning with her mom.

The Good Place is my go-to show on Thursday nights. The show is so creative, and I just love these characters – they always make me laugh. Lately the group seems to be splintering in half each week as they deal with two different situations at a time. No matter who the show seems to pair up, things always lead to humorous situations. This show is constantly reinventing itself, and I have no doubt that things will be shaken up once again by the end of the season, and speaking of shake-ups, I can’t wait to meet Eleanor’s mother, to see if she’s the reason Eleanor ended up on her path to the Bad Place.

On tonight’s episode, “A Fractured Inheritance,” Eleanor makes a startling discovery when she travels with Michael to Nevada to confront the mother she believed was dead; Tahani struggles to make amends with her sister.

To see how it goes with Eleanor and her mother, tune in to NBC at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, Superstore, Will & Grace, and I Feel Bad.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/31/18

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight!

Jenny’s Choice #1

I was on this week’s TV Times Three podcast, and at the end of it, I gave my recommendation of SEAL Team. It’s been on point this season, especially the last few episodes. Last week, while the rest of Bravo Team was in Mumbai trying to find and rescue a US Foreign Service officer who was being held hostage by a group of radicals who’d targeted sites all over the city to infiltrate and shoot up (they killed hundreds of people – men, women, and children), Jason was still at home, trying to deal with the sudden death of his wife (ex-wife? I can’t remember if they’d gotten divorced yet or not…) and suddenly being a single parent to two teenagers. His plan was just to go, go, go, to carry on with what needed to be done in life, using Alana’s calendar like it was his new religion. When Emma refused to go with him to talk to her counselor about college, he went alone. While he was gone, his mother threw out the calendar, trying to convince him the kids needed him to be present, there and then, for them, rather than trying to focus on the future. Emma finally came out of her room and grabbed a photo off the bookshelf of him and her mom. She asked about it, and they shared a sweet moment.

He’d found a package when he got home from the school, and when he finally opened it, he found a scrapbook/photo album Alana had had made and obviously planned to give him. There were lots of pictures of the two of them, of the kids, and of them all as a family. He suddenly had an idea, and he roused the kids and forced them out with him. When he finally got them where he wanted, a spot out in the middle of nowhere where you could look out over the city, he explained it was their mom’s favorite spot, that she always said she could see tomorrow. He told him a story about his early days in the military, when he froze climbing a rock face. He was told then to look just ahead of him to do what he had to do right then, not look into the future, and it was what he still did. It was easy to see he was going to have to change that some now that Alana is gone. He ended that visit by showing them a tree where they’d carved Alana loves Jason. He then took his knife and added to it to include the kids. It was really touching. Then at the end, Jason met with one of his superiors and resigned, saying the team was in good hands with Adam, but Jason’s kids needs him.

Meanwhile, the team found the hostage and were able to rescue him safely, even after learning several of them were probably wearing suicide vests (which they were). It was good to see them all working together without some of the tension we’ve been seeing being Clay and Ray with Adam at the helm. But then they had to put the FSO into the truck to be sent to safety while they went to the local university to rescue some US students in hiding from some of the radicals. They came under gunfire…and fade to black.

I’ve seen tonight’s episode, and it’s just as emotion- and action-packed as last week’s episode. It’s one of my favorite episodes of the series, so I highly recommend you check it out tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “Say Again Your Last,” while tasked with rescuing a group of American students held hostage in Mumbai, Bravo Team suffers life-threatening injuries.

To see what injuries the team incurs and how they all handle it, tune in to CBS at 9:01/8:01c.
