Jenny’s Choice
With another of their comedies just ending, it’s time for TBS to put out a new one, and tonight, that happens with Your Family or Mine, starring Kyle Howard (Royal Pains), Kat Foster (‘Til Death), Richard Dreyfuss, & JoBeth Williams. Kelli (Foster) and Oliver (Howard) are a young couple at the center of this new show, which alternates between them and other members of their family each week, including his parents, played by Dreyfuss & Williams. We see them dealing with complexities and eccentricities of both their families while trying to maintain their own marriage and sanity. It’s based on a very popular Israeli comedy of the same name.
There have been a lot of comedies similar to this one, all about the different people and couples within a family, so I don’t know how American audiences will take to this one. But I love both Kyle Howard and Kat Foster, and Richard Dreyfuss and JoBeth Williams are big names. Plus, the previews on TBS have looked really funny, so I’m crossing my fingers it’ll be good!
On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,†happily married couple, Kelli and Oliver Weston are living the old adage “marry your spouse, marry their family†as they spend their weekends visiting their respective in-laws and learning to maneuver through the idiosyncrasies that make up every family. Kelli’s and Oliver’s two very different backgrounds are clear as they each find their own way of making it work.
