If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/28/13

The only thing I like about college basketball is that it makes my TV schedule a little more manageable at the end of March. It’s nice to get some reruns to give me time to catch up on my TiVo backlog (especially before the torrent of new stuff starting/ending this Saturday and Sunday night!). If you don’t watch basketball, there’s not a whole lot on tonight, but don’t worry, we didn’t let that stop us from finding some great suggestions.

1600penn328smallTonight, 1600 Penn finishes out its season with two new episodes. In last week’s pair of episodes, Skip finally graduated college, Becca revealed to D.B. that she had dated Marshall, and Dale and Emily tried to add a little spark back into their marriage. I was really happy that the show went the route of Becca realizing that she really did want D.B. and that her relationship with Marshall was a thing of the past. These two are really great together, and I hope it stays that way, because it’s highly likely that tonight’s two episodes will be the final two of the series. This is such a fun show, and I really wish more Neilsen families were watching!

On tonight’s first episode, “Bursting the Bubble,” a foreign princess visits the White House to attend an annual peace gala and asks Skip to be her escort. Meanwhile, Becca tests D.B.’s parenting skills; and Emily looks to reconnect with old friends.

And in the season finale, “Marry Me, Baby,” President Gilchrist accidentally calls the legality of his marriage into question during an interview with Larry King (playing himself), so Skip tries to resolve the situation. Meanwhile, Becca and D.B. receive surprising news.

Tune in to the see the final two episodes of the season (& possibly series) tonight on NBC at 8:30/7:30c & 9:31/8:31c. Learn where to find episodes online of 1600 Penn @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, Raising Hope, Archer, Legit, and Nathan for You.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/14/13

While it’s nice to have an extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day, it just seems like the days are shorter—this whole week has been flying by. As a result, I’m still falling behind on TV, and I’ve reached the stage where even several brand new shows have already amassed 2 or 3 unwatched episodes on my TiVo—it looks like this weekend I will need to make some swift evictions from my DVR. So to help you decide which shows should stay on your season pass list, we’ve got some suggestions.

1600penn314smallOne underrated entry in NBC’s Thursday comedy lineup that I really enjoy is 1600 Penn. Last week, Skip discovered that a special letter he received from his father while away at summer camp had actually been written by his aide, Marshall. So Skip used his podcast to confront the President. Meanwhile, Emily and Becca butted heads over what classes Marigold should be taking.

I find 1600 Penn, and Josh Gad in particular, to be extremely hilarious. The show is a great blend of slapstick and classic sitcom situational humor. Plus, no matter how crazy everything gets, they always manage to mix a little heart into every episode. I have really been enjoying the whole Becca and D.B. relationship—how it started off due to circumstances but has been growing into something real—so I’m glad to see he’s back in tonight’s episode.

On tonight’s episode, “Game Theory,” Emily helps Skip prepare for a big date; Becca and D.B. paint a mural for a special room; and Dale and Xander face off in a game of Risk.

See how Skip’s date goes tonight on NBC at 9:30/8:30c. Learn where to find episodes online of 1600 Penn @ TV.com.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Glee, Archer, Legit, and Nathan for You.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/24/13

The problem with going on vacation for a week is that you need a second vacation once you return just to catch up on all the TV you missed. Not to mention that it’s also tough going from a week of 70+ degree weather back to highs of just 20 degrees! There’s a lot of great new TV I’ll be adding to my TiVo backlog tonight, so here’s our suggestions on what you should check out.

Kyle’s Choice

lastresort124smallI’m anxiously awaiting tonight’s series finale of Last Resort. Last week, the mutiny was looming, and the power struggle continued between COB and Chaplin, with each of them making offers to the XO to join his camp. Meanwhile, in DC, the Speaker of the House was giving a speech when an aide approached him. Buell stopped himself mid-speech, confessed to the planned coup of the President, and shot himself on live TV. While leaving the House, Kylie was grabbed by some men and brought to a limo, where her father told her he got her name removed from the list of conspirators and revealed that he was backing the President. Back on the island, the mutiny started, and it appeared that Grace had chosen to side with COB. However, when Chaplin arrived at the Colorado, Anders was holding her at gunpoint.

So what will happen tonight? How will the mutiny end, and who will control the Colorado? What will happen to the failed coup conspirators in Washington? Will the President ever pay for his crimes? Will the crew of the Colorado be able to return home, or are they stuck on this island? I wonder how much will they will really be able to resolve with just this one re-written final hour, but I hope we get a satisfying conclusion.

On tonight’s episode, “Controlled Flight into Terrain,” Chaplin and Kendal must prevent the Colorado from being captured in the series finale.

See if fans get the ending the hope for tonight on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Resort @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office, 1600 Penn, Glee, Archer, Sweet Genius, King of the Nerds, and Suits.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/17/12

One week until Christmas Eve, and I don’t even have my tree up! (I’m serious.) Tonight is hopefully the night, and while I trim the tree and finally catch up on my Christmas spirit, I’ll be watching some fabulous new TV. Let’s take a look at what you should be checking out, as well.

Megan’s Choice

hawaiifiveo1217smallIs it too much to ask for Alex O’Loughlin wrapped with a red bow under my tree for Christmas? All right…maybe it is, but a new episode of Hawaii Five-0 will help to fill the void. I have been loving this season so far, especially all the leaps and bounds of character growth we’ve been seeing from the whole cast. It’s awesome to see Steve and Catherine in a deeper relationship, and I love what her character brings to the show. The real mystery I want wrapped up is the Wo-Fat one—I’m so over it! If you haven’t been watching, you definitely should be, and what better time to fall in love with this witty, charismatic show than right before hiatus so you’ll have time to catch up? 😉

On tonight’s episode, “Kahu (Guardian),” McGarrett and Catherine meet a little boy whose father is missing and could be in grave danger. George Takei (Star Trek) guest stars as Chin’s uncle.

To see my TV boyfriend look amazing while fighting crime, tune into CBS at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Hawaii Five-0 @ Clicker.

I’ll also be watching 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, The Voice, 1600 Penn, and Next Great Baker.

Trailers for New Fall Shows on NBC & Our Thoughts

You saw all the trailers and our thoughts on the new shows for ABC. Now check out the same for the new NBC shows!

Link to Revolution on NBC.com.

Jenny’s Thoughts: I love the premise of this (like one of my other favorite shows ever, Jericho), and the cast is fantastic. Plus, it’s from J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke, so it’s got a brilliant backbone to it. Here’s hoping it’s a hit! – Excited
Megan’s Thoughts: I am getting a little sick of the “end of the world”-type shows that pull me in and then disappoint. However, it is from J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke – and I admit that I was drawn in by the fight scenes, so I’m intrigued, for sure. – Curious
Kyle’s Thoughts: This looks awesome – action, adventure, mystery! It’s like Jericho meets The Event meets Terra Nova and a lot of other epic series. I just hope it doesn’t go the route of those other shows. But I hope J.J. Abrams and Eric Kripke have another big hit on their hands! – Excited
