Last week, 9-1-1 returned to FOX, and it didn’t waste any time getting into the craziness, as the team was called to assist a women whose doctors passed out in the middle of her facelift procedure. Afterwards, they assisted with a shark that was stuck in the middle of a highway, chomping away on one of its handler’s arms. Meanwhile, Maddie and Athena teamed up to look into a suspicious 9-1-1 call from a boy who claimed nothing was wrong – it turns out that he and his new brother had both been abducted by their so-called father. This reminded Athena of a little girl who went missing in her own neighborhood when she was young, and it was these events that had inspired her to become a cop.

When not at work, Athena was dealing with a visit from her parents. Her mom Beatrice wasted no time in letting her daughter know how disappointed she was in her. She was particularly upset that she decided to marry Bobby, a white man, and that he was already acting like a parent to her grandchildren. Meanwhile, before the winter break, we saw that Doug, Maddie’s crazy ex, had made his way to town and had secretly befriended Chimney in order to get some intel on his ex. This week, he followed Chimney on his way to a date with Maddie, stabbed him multiple times in the courtyard, and left him bleeding out, and then made his way into the apartment to a shocked and frightened Maddie.

Chimney has already had rebar go through his forehead, and now he’s been stabbed several times in the chest. Will he get lucky and survive yet another devastating injury, or is this it? I’m a little nervous that tonight’s episode appears to be a Chimney origin story. Are we going to get one final look at how he became the fireman and paramedic he is, just to then say goodbye, or will he miraculously pull through? And what about Maddie? Can she escape from Doug and either have him arrested, or better yet, more permanently disposed of?

On tonight’s episode, “Chimney Begins,” look back at how Chimney joined Station 118 and became the firefighter and paramedic he is today.

To see how why Chim joined the fire department, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Fix, The Resident, and Arrow.

Tonight, ABC kicks off the new 10-part legal thriller The Fix, from series creator/executive producer Marcia Clark (best known as the lead prosecutor for the O.J. Simpson trial). Eight years ago, LA district attorney Maya Travis (Robin Tunney, The Mentalist) suffered a devastating defeat in the courtroom when Hollywood star Sevvy Johnson (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Lost, Oz) was acquitted for the double murder of his wife and her best friend, despite all the evidence seeming to prove otherwise. Afterwards, Maya abruptly left the public eye and headed to Washington to live a quieter life with cowboy Riv Allgood (Marc Blucas, Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but she is still haunted by the faces of the two women she was unable get justice for.

Sevvy is once again in the news when his latest girlfriend is found murdered. Maya’s former partner, Matthew Collier (Adam Rayner, Tyrant), lures Maya back to the DA’s office to consult on the case and hopefully get justice this time around. Also working on the case are District Attorney Alan Wiest (Breckin Meyer, Franklin & Bash), CJ Emerson (Merrin Dungey, Big Little Lies, Alias), and the ambitious young deputy district attorney Loni Kampoor (Mouzam Makkar, Champions, The Exorcist). Sevvy once again claims his innocence and even has the backing of his deceased wife’s son Gabriel (Alex Saxon, The Fosters). However, that doesn’t stop him from re-hiring hot-shot defense attorney Ezra Wolf (Scott Cohen, The Americans), the man who got him acquitted the last time.

I really enjoyed tonight’s premiere. One can’t help but make comparisons to the O.J. trial and wonder if this is a way for Marcia Clark to get a little justice. Tonight’s episode does a great job of introducing all of the characters and their back stories and showing how both sides are starting to prepare their cases. It’s very interesting to see the manipulations and tricks being plotted by both sides. I expect that this one investigation/trial will play out over the course of the 10-episode season, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be other twists and personal drama along the way – tonight’s premiere features some unexpected turn of events. I am definitely on board to see how this all plays out and to see if Sevvy is actually innocent this time around or not.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” District Attorney Maya Travis returns to Los Angeles for another chance at justice after movie star Sevvy Johnson is suspected for another murder eight years later.

Meet all the players of this very public trial tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Resident, 9-1-1, and Arrow.

We have reached the part of the year when our favorite shows go on hiatus for the holiday season, and tonight is the fall finale for 9-1-1. I can’t describe just how much I love this show and what an amazing job the writers have done casting it.

On the last new episode, we got to learn a lot about Hen and how she started off at the fire department. It was heartbreaking to watch how she was treated when she first started – the racism, sexism, and judgement. Her captain was verbally abusive, and yet she fought hard to be an extraordinary firefighter. Chimney was there for her, and eventually the powers that be stepped in and fired her captain. It was a beautiful episode, and I loved how it was focused on Hen only so we could learn more about her. Hopefully they do similar episodes for other characters eventually as well.

On tonight’s episode, “Merry Ex-Mas,” the holidays are naughty and nice for the first responders, who must deal with a stampede at a toy store, a mistletoe stunt gone awry, and neighbors competing in a Christmas-light showdown. Meanwhile, Bobby contemplates his future with Athena, Chimney and Buck attempt to lift Maddie’s spirits, and Eddie must decide if he wants to give his son what he really wants for Christmas: a visit with his mom.

To see how Chimney and Buck help Maddie, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching The Voice, The Resident, Bull, Manifest, Holiday Baking Championship, and The Good Doctor.

Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk are geniuses, and the show 9-1-1 is another prime example of what can be produced and created in the hands of this creative team. The characters are funny, yet they still manage to be deep and relatable. Buck is one of the most relatable characters right now because he’s working on getting back into the dating scene without sleeping with whatever girls throw themselves at him. The funny thing is now that he’s developed a conscience, he is more aware of when someone is using him for sex…which his reporter lady friend is definitely doing. Watching Buck realize that his old moves are being used on him was hilarious, but in the end I hope Buck can find real love again because he deserves it.

Elsewhere, Chimney and Maddie realized they are moving along into a relationship without actually labeling it. I completely support this and think they need to move forward with the relationship fully. I’m just waiting for Buck and Chimney to have to save Maddie when her ex-husband shows up, because we all know no one can escape their past on this show.

On tonight’s episode, “Hen Begins,” Hen relives her evolution into the firefighter she is today as she recalls the first times she met Chimney and Athena.

To take this stroll down memory lane, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching The Resident, The Voice, The Good Doctor, Magnum PI, The Neighborhood, Happy Together, Holiday Baking Championship, Arrow, and Manifest.

TVx3 Podcast – Jenny & Kyle Joined Jason to Talk TV!

Last week, I spoke with Jason (@theTVaholic) & Kyle (@kyool) on Jason’s TVx3 podcast. That’s always a lot of fun, especially when I’m feeling pretty passionate about a show or two! This time, we talked not only cancelation and renewal news, as well as our own TV recommendations (hint: mine was this season of SEAL Team!), but also about recent episodes of 9-1-1, The Big Bang Theory, FBI, & The Rookie plus the first episode of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Be sure to check out the podcast and see what the three of us thought. As always, it’s entertaining because of how awesome we are similar or differing our opinions can be, depending on the show! Find the podcast here on TV times Three.
