Last week was the exciting season premiere of Blue Bloods, but it seemed like there was conflict all over the place within the family. Not only were Jamie and Frank still at odds about Jamie and Eddie choosing to continue to ride together after getting engaged, but Erin got a promotion at work (taking over Monica’s position after Monica was killed last season), and she was very hesitant about showing any sort of favoritism toward Danny and Jamie when they came to her for help. Then of course there was drug cartel member Louis Delgado (played by one of my favorites, Lou Diamond Phillips), who we know was responsible for burning down Danny’s house – and maybe, just maybe, for somehow causing Linda’s helicopter to crash?! Danny was so gung-ho about taking Delgado down after working a case where the victim’s head was cut off that he basically set the guy up to be killed himself by making it seem like Delgado was in bed with the cops. Ouch.

I was glad to see things calm down a little between Jamie and Frank at the end. Both Jamie and Frank had to realize that Frank was so against it because he just wants his kids to be safe. He’s already lost one son on the job. The thought that Jamie partnering with Eddie now that they’re engaged could make him a little distracted and could get him killed really had Frank worried. In the end, though, Eddie talked to Jamie about not being partners because they were now partners off the job, and she didn’t want it to come between him and his dad. And really, it’s all moot now anyway because we finally found out the results of the sergeant’s exam, and while Jamie said Eddie did fine, it was Jamie himself who got the top spot in the results! He did end up taking it without telling Frank (or us), and now we’re going to have Sergeant Jamie Reagan. That should be fun… It’ll be interesting to see how they’ll work the Jamie/Eddie scenes in now that they won’t be riding together!

On tonight’s episode, “Meet the New Boss,” Gormley looks to Danny and Baez for help tracking down a former NYPD detective he believes may be a threat to Frank’s safety. Also, Erin navigates office politics when she chooses to reopen a closed case; Jamie and Eddie are transferred to a new precinct with a lot of problems; and Frank and Baker team up to investigate a complaint about an SVU detective. Bebe Neuwirth guest stars.

See how they keep Frank safe tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Last Man Standing, MacGyver, The Cool Kids, Child Support, Hawaii Five-0, & Hell’s Kitchen.

Tonight, Superstore reopens its doors for its fourth season on NBC. When we left off last year, Myrtle was being fired. Everyone banded together to try to save her job, but they were ultimately unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Dina was pregnant as a surrogate for manager Glenn, and Amy discovered she, too, was pregnant by her ex-husband. However, that didn’t stop the show from finally answering the big “Will They or Won’t They” question that fans have been wondering about since the beginning of the series. Amy and Jonah had sex in the storage room – what they didn’t realize until afterwards was that their sexcapades were being live-streamed to all of the Cloud 9 locations.

Tonight’s season premiere picks up 4 months later, as Amy and Jonah return to their jobs at Cloud 9. Lucky for us, their punishment isn’t at all realistic – in real life, there is no way they would be allowed to return to their jobs after what happened, or at the very least Amy would have been demoted! But now that they are back, is it really business as usual? How will their co-workers treat them now that they’ve seen Amy and Jonah bare all? And what is the status of their relationship – was it just a one-time thing, or are Amy and Jonah still a couple? The Cloud 9 crew always provide lots of laughs, and I’m excited to have them returning to my TV!

On tonight’s episode, “Back to School,” Amy and Jonah return from a four-month suspension just in time for the back-to-school sale madness, but they receive different treatment from their co-workers; Jeff makes a misguided attempt to woo back Mateo.

Catch up with the gang at Cloud 9 tonight on NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, The Good Place, Will & Grace, and I Feel Bad.

I’m so excited that Criminal Minds is back, especially given how last season ended on the cliffhanger of Garcia being kidnapped and Reid being forced at gunpoint to help the bad guys, lest Garcia be killed. In this case, the bad guys were the cult members headed by the guy (called the Messiah) who was cutting out their victims’ hyoid bones. The BAU learned about it when long-missing FBI Agent Quinn was found in a storage unit – alive. At first they thought he was part of the cult, but they later learned he was just as much a victim. They had the Messiah in custody, but at the end of the episode, when Garcia rode down to the garage in the elevator with Quinn and another FBI agent, Mary Meadows, we quickly realized that Meadows was the one who was part of the cult, when she shot Quinn and kidnapped Garcia, turning her over to her henchmen (heh). Reid was then ordered by Meadows to help her get the Messiah out of the FBI’s custody or she would have Garcia shot.

Since both Garcia and Reid were safe from the previous season’s cliffhanger ending, I suppose it’s only fair that they be the two in jeopardy this past season. Given this is a show that doesn’t really hesitate to kill off or say good-bye to their characters, I never take for granted the safety of characters left in jeopardy during a cliffhanger ending. Sure, if either Garcia or Reid are gone, there would be a huge hole in the team/show. As we’ve seen previously, no one can really take Garcia’s place (Kevin, anyone? Gak.), and Reid is in a class of his own. It’s easy to find another good-looking guy who can kick in doors (as evidenced by the two it took to replace Morgan. 😉 ), and there are any number of strong females who could replace JJ or Emily (although, as we’ve seen, they aren’t exactly easy to replace either, since those characters are so beloved). But Reid’s big brain and memory, etc, would be hard to replicate without being a clone, and then…what’s the point of having someone new? So you’d think they’d both be safe. But given that this premiere is the show’s 300th episode, it’s a big one, and if they were going to kill or send either one off, now would be the time to do it, I suppose! (I’ve seen the episode, btw, so I know the answer to all that supposition. But now you have some things to worry about, just like I did…and am? Maybe… *cue evil laugh*)

On tonight’s episode, “300,” when Reid and Garcia are abducted by Benjamin Merva (Michael Hogan), it’s up to the rest of the team to find them. The BAU finds surprising clues in their own history to solve why the two heroes have been targeted by a mass murderer. It’s a race to save them before a “Believers” prophecy is fulfilled.

Find out if the team can save Garcia and Reid tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago PD, The Goldbergs, American Housewife, Guy’s Grocery Games, Modern Family, Property Brothers, SEAL Team, & Single Parents.

Jenny’s Choice #1

My first pick tonight is the new single-camera comedy on ABC, Single Parents. Looking at the premise, I assumed that it would be one of those shows that I liked but that critics didn’t, but from almost everything I’ve read so far on TV sites/blogs, critics are really enjoying it. And I have to say that I’ve seen the pilot as well and I loved it too.

The show focuses on a group of single parents all raising their kids (mainly 7-year-olds) as…well…single parents. They’re sarcastic, funny, and don’t hesitate to say out loud what so many of us parents want to say but don’t. Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond among others) especially has a dry sense of humor and seems to have few boundaries – such as saying kids are the perfect size to wash cars as his twin daughters are outside washing his car. When the small group of single parents meets a new father/daughter (Will & Sophie) at school, they quickly learn he’s a single father as well, but there’s one big difference: Will has fully immersed himself into single parenthood. His life revolves around his daughter and nothing else, including who he himself is as a man. The group decides it’s up to them to bring him out of the parenting vortex and remind him he’s allowed to have a life while still being a loving and attentive father to his daughter.

The cast is great. Besides Brad Garrett, who is always exceptionally funny in everything he does, it includes “parents” Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live), Kimrie Lewis, & Jake Choi, as well as kids Marlow Barkley, Tyler Wladis, Devin Trey Campbell, & twins Mia and Ella Allan. (And a baby who plays Jake Choi’s character’s infant son. Choi is brilliant as a new dad. So funny.)

I urge you to give this one a chance. It’s really quite amusing!

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Will Cooper has been so focused on raising his daughter, Sophie, he’s lost sight of who he is as a man and has headed deep into the parental vortex. When the other single parents – Angie, Douglas, Poppy, and Jake – at his daughter’s school see just how far down the rabbit hole of PTA, parenting and princesses Will has gone, they band together to get him out in the world and make him realize that being a great parent doesn’t mean sacrificing everything about your own identity.

Check out the new fun tonight on ABC at 9:31/8:31c.

I love the Sunday night gameshows on ABC. I watch them every week. And sometimes they’re better than others, simply because of who the celeb guests are. This week, each show has some great stars on, so I wanted to point them out in case you’re not used to watching.

First up, on the two games of Celebrity Family Feud, it’s a Shonda Rhimes match with the stars of Grey’s Anatomy versus the stars of Station 19: Chandra Wilson (Miranda Bailey), James Pickens Jr. (Richard Webber), Kelly McCreary (Margaret Pierce), Sarah Drew (April Kepner), & Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca) vs Jason George (Ben Warren), Jaina Lee Ortiz (Andy Herrera), Danielle Kathleen Savre (Maya Bishop), Okieriete Onaodowan (Dean Miller), & Barrett Doss (Victoria Hughes). Following that it’s pop-rock duo Aly & AJ versus co-host of The Real, Adrienne Houghton, and their families.

Then on The $100,000 Pyramid, it’s mostly a Brooklyn Nine-Nine night… First up is Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live & the short-lived Me, Myself & I) competing against Melissa Fumero (Amy Santiago on Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Following that it’s Terry Crews (Terry Jeffers on Brooklyn Nine-Nine) competing against Andrew Braugher (Capt. Holt on Brooklyn Nine-Nine). Should be a fun game!

Finally, on To Tell the Truth, it’s model Ashley Graham and funnymen Donald Faison, Craig Robinson, & Adam Pally. They’re presented with someone who skydived without a parachute, millionaire golf ball diver, & more.

The three fun shows air on ABC starting at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Network Star, Private Eyes, & Iron Chef America.
