So who’s already overwhelmed (for better or for worse) by all the new fall TV shows?! (*raises hand*) Well, tonight, there are 3 additional new shows starting up, 2 returning CW shows with season premieres, and new episodes of pretty much everything else. So we’ve got some suggestions to help you decide what to check out from tonight’s huge selection…
Kyle’s Choice
One of my favorite new comedy pilots of the season finally premieres tonight as NBC adds romantic comedy A to Z to its Thursday-night lineup. Andrew (Ben Feldman) is a guy’s guy, but also a romantic, who works for an online dating company. Zelda (Cristin Milioti) is a girl’s girl and a pro-bono lawyer but likes order and being in control. This series chronicles the 8 months the couple dates—from the day they meet, until the day they… Well, that’s for us to find out.
Tonight’s pilot is such a joy to watch—it looks like this is going to be a really charming series, especially with Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy, Married…with Children) providing a delightful commentary. Andrew and Zelda are so likeable, and the actors who play them have great on-screen chemistry. We only got a small glimpse of Milioti’s talent in the final season of How I Met Your Mother, and I’m so glad she’s been given this new opportunity to really shine. The supporting characters also quite amiable—there isn’t an annoying best friend or coworker in the bunch. And that is thanks to the talented supporting cast, which includes Henry Zebrowski, Lenora Crichlow, Christina Kirk, Parvesh Cheena, Hong Chau, and Ben Falcone. I look forward to seeing more of Andrew and Zelda’s relationship and how it develops over the course of the season (and hopefully beyond).
On tonight’s episode, “A Is for Acquaintances,” idealistic online matchmaker Andrew falls for no-nonsense lawyer Zelda in this romantic-comedy series. In the opener, the two meet for the first time when she comes into his online-dating workplace to deal with a misunderstanding. They immediately have chemistry, and he thinks he’s seen her somewhere before.
To see the lovebirds meet, tune in to NBC at 9:30/8:30c.
