If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/24/14

In just a few weeks, the networks will have their Upfront presentations, and we’ll finally find out which shows have been renewed, which have been canceled, and what new shows we can look forward to. This whole system seems a bit outdated to me—it’s been almost a year since the last Upfronts, and tonight, we have 2 more new series starting up, at least one of which was announced at CBS’s Upfront presentation last year! What’s the point of picking up a series if you aren’t going to air it until a year later? What chance does it even have at that point of getting a second season?! But enough of my ranting… Here’s what we’re recommending tonight.

Kyle’s Choice

badteachersmallTonight, CBS premieres its small-screen version of the comedy Bad Teacher. Lazy, foul-mouthed former trophy wife Meredith Davis (Ari Graynor) is left penniless from a divorce and hatches a plan to masquerade as a teacher at a ritzy Chicago middle school in order to find her next rich husband. While I never saw the original film with Cameron Diaz, the premise sounds like a lot of fun and the cast is great—it also includes Ryan Hansen, Sara Gilbert, Kristin Davis, David Alan Grier, and Sara Rodier! I’m looking forward to checking out this new comedy, even though it’s likely just a burn-off at this point in the season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Pilot,” a faculty member becomes suspicious.

See how this new comedy stacks up against the movie version tonight on CBS at 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Black Box, Parks and Recreation, Saturday Night Live, Surviving Jack, Sirens, and Review.
