If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/7/14

The snow is starting to melt, and I can finally see some of my grass. Then yesterday, I got to take my kids to the park to play for the first time since winter started. All of these things make me very happy because I have been ready for nicer weather since about January. The other amazing thing about spring is that it means May sweeps are just around the corner, which translates into our favorite shows pushing the limits and bringing us incredible entertainment. Let’s see what they’re bringing us tonight.

thevoice2013smallThe Voice is by far one of the best talent competitions on television today, because all the singers really are just oozing with talent. Last week, we watched as the contestants took to the stage for the second round of battles, and if you missed it, then you missed some astounding vocal slayings. I was glued to my television during the battle between Morgan and Stevie because they took the song “Story of my Life” by One Direction and made it rock. The best part was when Adam waited until Morgan went to fist bump him to press his button to steal him. What fantastic timing. This week is going to be intense because the only judge left with a steal is Blake, and I know he’s going to hold on for someone that he really wants, which makes it hard to see when all the talented singers have to leave.

On tonight’s new episode, “The Battles, Round 2 Continues,” the battle rounds continue as the coaches and top recording artists offer advice to the contestants.

To see who has the vocal chops to destroy the competition, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef Canada, Bones, The Following, Star-Crossed, Chopped, Kitchen Casino, and Rick and Morty.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/10/14

What a difference a week makes. Last week, my kiddo was off from school on Monday because of snow. Yesterday? Just over 60 degrees outside. Gotta love Kansas… On a good note, there’s some really great TV on tonight, so at least that’s consistent! Check out our recommendations. 🙂

believe310smallTonight, JJ Abrams brings another new show to TV that could very well become one of my all-time favorites. Believe is about a ten-year-old little girl named Bo who, since the age of two, has had gifts such as levitation, telekinesis, the ability to control nature, and even the ability to predict the future. She was raised by a small group known as the “True Believers,” kept safe from harm and other people who would forcibly use her gifts for personal gain. But as she’s grown, her powers have gotten stronger, and her life and future are in jeopardy, so the “Believers” turn to the one person they…believe can keep her safe and be her full-time guardian: Tate. The problem is, Tate is on death row after being wrongfully imprisoned, so they must break him out. The show is their journey.

When I saw this pilot, I fell in love with it, more so than possibly any other pilot last summer. The cast is great, the stories are great, the action is great… I have been waiting on pins and needles to be able to share it with all of you and with my family, who didn’t watch the pilot with me last summer.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” a young girl who was born with extraordinary powers gains an unlikely protector out of a death row escapee who was wrongfully imprisoned, as the two flee from malevolent forces that want to use the girl’s abilities to take control of the world.

See if you become a “Believer” like me tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/24/14

The Olympics are over, and while I really enjoyed cheering my country on, I am very ready for the regular schedule to resume. This week is bringing us a bunch of new episodes, a few season premieres, and even a few series premieres. I know… I’m super excited, too! Let’s see what’s on tonight that we’re recommending.

thevoice2013smallThe Voice comes back for another season starting tonight, and I’m really looking forward to it. Blake and Adam are returning for this season, but Cee Lo and Christina are not. Instead, Usher and Shakira will be in their places. We’ve found out that Cee Lo will not be returning at all, but I’m be okay with that, as long as it’s always Usher in his place, because that boy is so yummy to look at and he is a great coach. This season, I’m hoping we see some more fabulous singers and lots of fun bickering between the judges, because that’s what makes this talent show my favorite.

On tonight’s episode, “Blind Auditions Part 1,” the celebrity coaches begin selecting vocalists in blind auditions.

To see how the talent stacks up this season, tune in to NBC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Following, Almost Human, Star-Crossed, Mom, Intelligence, Teen Wolf, 2 Broke Girls, The Blacklist, Bitten, Lost Girl, Being Human, and Dallas.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/3/14

What a crazy football game last night! I was rooting for Denver (being in KC, they’re the closest to my hometown), and they got their behinds kicked. Like…bad. LOL But the Brooklyn Nine-Nine was good, so I guess that helped. 😉 There’s lots on tonight to help take the sting out of last night’s loss for those Broncos fans, so check out our recommendations. 🙂

castle23smallMy first pick tonight is the new episode of Castle. Last week was supposed to be this ep, but it was put off for a week. The last new ep, though, was another great one, a rip on the “Miley Cyrus and other teen pop stars in the news.” You kinda had to feel bad for the girl, who’d pretty much been railroaded into becoming who she was. And then to find out that her mom was the one who killed her lookalike to cover up the fact that she’d hired the girl to pose in a compromising position with her daughter’s ex-boyfriend in the hopes of breaking up her and her current boyfriend—who was a really good guy and helping her to get away from the life she no longer was happy living. My favorite parts had to be everything with Alexis—from talking about the singer in front of her, to going to her apartment to switch phones, etc. And then, joy of joys, it seemed at the end like Alexis was going to break up with Pi. One can only hope, yeah? 😉

On tonight’s episode, “Dressed to Kill,” when the assistant to Modern Fashion Magazine’s dictatorial editor Matilda King (guest star Franes fisher) is found murdered, Castle and Beckett are thrust into the glitzy, ruthless world of high fashion in their search for the killer. Meanwhile Beckett’s history in the modelling world gets her access to a very special wedding surprise.

See Castle’s reaction to Beckett’s modeling past and what the wedding surprise is tonight on ABC at 10/9c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/13/14

It’s crazy how fast the weekend went. Unfortunately, it’s back to work today. There’s good news, though, because tonight is a really busy night of TV, with lots of great stuff on. We’re here to hopefully help you narrow your choices down, but given that Megan & I are both recommending two shows, I’m not sure how much help we are! *laugh* Still, we’ll do our best. 😉

bitten113smallMy first pick tonight is the series premiere of Bitten on Syfy. The show is based on the “Women of the Otherworld” novels by Kelley Armstrong, and stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena abandoned her Pack and took refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. She finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain, after dead bodies start piling up. The show also stars Greg Bryk (A History of Violence) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

I love the book series, but I’m not sold on the show yet. I’ve seen the first three minutes (didn’t have time to watch the screener that was sent out), and it starts out with a rather graphic sex scene for even regular cable. I was planning to let my 16yo son watch this show with me, but talk about uncomfortable… Kyle’s seen the first episode, and he’s not sure he’ll watch any more. But I’m recommending it because I do love the books, so I’m hoping the show will get better than he said the pilot is.

On tonight’s episode, “Summons,” the lone female werewolf in existence, who wanted to escape that life and who abandoned her back and moved to a new city, is summoned back to her Pack when bodies begin to turn up in her Pack’s backyard, Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain.

To see if this new show is for you, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.
