TV times Three (TVx3) Podcast Ep.210

Early this week, I was part of the TVx3 Podcast with Jason (@theTVaholic) & Sam (@SamMaggs). We talked recent TV news, then chatted about episodes of Almost Human, Sleepy Hollow, Bitten, Person of Interest, Grimm, and Helix. You can listen to it here.

Jason does these podcasts once a week with different hosts joining him, and this was my second time. It was just as much fun as the first time! Kyle & Megan have both done it several times. You can check out the TV times Three site here, with all the previous podcasts. Be sure to check them out! TV times Three.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/13/14

It’s crazy how fast the weekend went. Unfortunately, it’s back to work today. There’s good news, though, because tonight is a really busy night of TV, with lots of great stuff on. We’re here to hopefully help you narrow your choices down, but given that Megan & I are both recommending two shows, I’m not sure how much help we are! *laugh* Still, we’ll do our best. 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

bitten113smallMy first pick tonight is the series premiere of Bitten on Syfy. The show is based on the “Women of the Otherworld” novels by Kelley Armstrong, and stars Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, Ted) as Elena Michaels, the lone female werewolf in existence. Desperate to escape both a world she never wanted to be part of and the man who turned her into a werewolf, Elena abandoned her Pack and took refuge in a new city. There, she works as a photographer and hides her werewolf existence from her new boyfriend. She finds herself back at Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain, after dead bodies start piling up. The show also stars Greg Bryk (A History of Violence) as werewolf Pack “Alpha” Jeremy Danvers, Greyston Holt (Alcatraz) as Elena’s werewolf ex-boyfriend Clayton Danvers, and Paul Greene (The Client List) as Elena’s current beau, Philip McAdams.

I love the book series, but I’m not sold on the show yet. I’ve seen the first three minutes (didn’t have time to watch the screener that was sent out), and it starts out with a rather graphic sex scene for even regular cable. I was planning to let my 16yo son watch this show with me, but talk about uncomfortable… Kyle’s seen the first episode, and he’s not sure he’ll watch any more. But I’m recommending it because I do love the books, so I’m hoping the show will get better than he said the pilot is.

On tonight’s episode, “Summons,” the lone female werewolf in existence, who wanted to escape that life and who abandoned her back and moved to a new city, is summoned back to her Pack when bodies begin to turn up in her Pack’s backyard, Stonehaven, the werewolves’ ancestral domain.

To see if this new show is for you, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.

Interview with Author Kelley Armstrong & Star Laura Vandervoort from Bitten

bittencall113asmall

Tonight, Syfy is premiering their latest series, Bitten, based off the best-selling book series, “Women of the Otherworld,” by Kelley Armstrong. Bitten is about a young woman who is turned into a werewolf…and is the sole female werewolf in existence. She’s split from her pack, wanting to live a normal life, but is pulled back in when bodies start piling up. Author Kelley Armstrong and series star Laura Vandervoort recently spoke to the press about the show, the book series, and more, so check out what they had to say.

On the fact that she is trained in martial arts

bittencall113bsmallLaura Vandervoort: Yes. I grew up doing martial arts. So Elena feels like, you know, the other part of me. I relate to so much about her. Obviously, not the werewolf part, but the fact that she can take care of herself physically.

And I think it was great that the writers wrote in some extra hand-to-hand combat scenes. And especially in the finale – we have this epic fight that I just had a great time doing. And we had great stunt coordinators that help us so as incorporate the animalistic side to the fighting.

It wasn’t a part of the audition, but, you know, I think it definitely benefits the character. The fact that most of the actors on the show are physically able to do the fight scene sequences.
