If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/29/13

It’s Sunday, and a busy one at that! In fact, the week is just about as busy as last week. And it’s hard to believe that after today, there’s only one more day left in September! The year has flown by. As for tonight, Megan has been out of town this weekend, but she was planning to talk about the season premiere of The Amazing Race. So aside from that, here’s what the rest of us are recommending. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

thementalist929smallTonight is the season premiere of The Mentalist. Last season, Jane narrowed the search for Red John down to seven names. He’s getting closer to figuring out who’s behind the murder of his wife and daughter and countless others. And it’s someone we’ve met, one of the following men: Bret Stiles, Gale Bertram, Ray Haffner, Reede Smith, Robert Kirkland, Sheriff Thomas McCallister, and Brett Partridge. We’ve been promised that the Red John arc will be wrapped up this season—I believe by mid-season, in fact. I’m glad, because really, enough is enough. I want to see where they’ll take the characters—especially Jane and Lisbon. Owain Yeoman and Amanda Righetti are leaving the show around mid-season, and since I’ve seen the premiere, I know they’re still a couple. It’ll be interesting to see how they’re written out of the show.

On tonight’s episode, “The Desert Rose,” Jane and Lisbon secretly continue their dangerous mission to narrow down the list of seven Red John suspects as they investigate the murder of a man who was missing for two years. Michael Gaston, Jack Plotnick, Josie Davis, & Lauren Stamile guest star.

To see the season premiere, tune in to CBS at 10:01/9:01c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, The Great Food Truck Race, & Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/22/13

It’s a relatively slow night tonight, but it’s the start of a VERY busy week on TV. There’s still some fun stuff on, though, (including the series finales of Dexter & Copper), so check out what we’re recommending! 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

thegreatfoodtruckracesmallIt’s been another good season of The Great Food Truck Race, and I’m fairly happy with the final three teams. Last week, The Slide Show went home, which was sad, but out of the four teams last week, they were who I was hoping for, simply because I didn’t feel like I knew them as well as the others. Out of the ones that are left—Aloha Plate, Philly’s Finest Sambonis, & Tikka Tikka Taco—I’m rooting for Aloha Plate, simply because I just love those guys. But honestly, I’m going to be okay with whoever wins. Philly’s Finest has had some major issues throughout the season, but they’ve been able to keep themselves in the race regardless, which is impressive. Tikka Tikka and Aloha are all just really nice guys. So it’ll be a fun final two episodes for me.

On tonight’s episode, “Chicago is a Food Truck Kinda Town,” the three remaining teams find a big surprise waiting for them at their next stop, Chicago, where the race takes on an exciting new turn.

Find out the surprise and see who goes home tonight on Food Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off & Cutthroat Kitchen.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/15/13

Can you feel it? That tingle of excitment… That’s right! It’s the first week of new fall shows!!! *happy dance* Tonight kicks off the new week, but tomorrow night really nails it home, so let’s see what’s on tonight so we can get to this fall buffet of TV.

Megan’s Choice

rvgkidssmallRachael Ray and Guy Fieri are so fantastic on their own shows, but put them together on the same cooking show and add kids that can cook—I’m sold! Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off premiered last week, and it was such a fun episode. Those kids are all very talented, but also freaking adorable. My favorite so far is Hunter, because he is just so adorable, and I love that he could rock cooking the venison. I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode and seeing how much better they get in the kitchen.

On tonight’s episode, “Brunch Time,” the chefs embark on a battle of the brunches; special guest Marion Ross (Happy Days) judges the Cook-Off.

To see how the kids do with brunch foods, tune in to Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, Iron Chef America, and Ray Donovan.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/8/13

It’s the start of another week, and I don’t know about you, but the heat has ratcheted back up here in Kansas. We were butting up against 100 degrees yesterday. Bleh. Hopefully it’ll cool off soon. I’m going to be sitting in front of the fan while I watch TV tonight, and in case you need to do the same, we have some recommendations on what you should be watching. 🙂

Jenny’s Choice

rvgkidssmallI’ve really enjoyed the Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri cook-off shows with celebrities, and this season, they’re switching things up, and it’s Rachael vs. Guy: Kids Cook-Off, featuring eight of the most talented kids, mentored by Rachael and Guy, as they enter the kitchen to cook their way through four rounds of real competition for the chance at winning their own Web series. I know there are kids who could cook circles around me, so I’m looking forward to seeing this one.

On tonight’s episode, “First Lady Luncheon,” after Rachael and Guy choose their teams, the kids are immediately given a Pop Quiz — create a signature dish that best expresses their culinary chops. Then during the Cook-Off Challenge, each team is challenged with creating a fresh, delicious lunch to be tasted by teen star Stefanie Scott. Michelle Obama also guest stars.

See how well these five boys and three girls can cook tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Unforgettable, The Great Food Truck Race, Cutthroat Kitchen, & Iron Chef America.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/1/13

Happy first day of September! Television is a little slow tonight, but we can enjoy the break, because soon, it’s about to explode into a crazy busy schedule. Check out what Kyle and I are recommending for you to watch out of the short list of new TV on tonight.

Megan’s Choice

tvsfunniestsmallFor tonight, I think you should be watching TV’s Funniest of the Funniest: A Paley Center for Media Special on NBC. They will be celebrating the Top 30 funniest moments from the last 60 years, all ranked in order, leading up to number one. It’s hosted by the amazing Betty White, with scenes to giggle at from shows such as The Big Bang Theory, Will & Grace, Friends, and Taxi, just to name a few. We’ll see some of our favorite stars and hear some great behind-the-scenes commentary. Overall, it seems like a great way to kick of the fall TV season.

On tonight’s special, beloved stars featured in the clips will be interviewed, sharing revealing behind-the-scenes commentary about what led to each classic moment. It’s an engaging all-star salute to TV’s funniest scenes that television fans won’t want to miss.

To see what moments they chose, tune in to NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Cutthroat Kitchen, The Great Food Truck Race, and Unforgettable.
