For the last four years, I have affectionately referred to Gotham as my favorite #SlowMoSharkJump, and it has been a great cheeky ride, but tonight our allegorical Arthur Fonzarelli crashes down to the water on those jet skis when the series finale airs. From the start this has been a tale about a select set of Batman characters: Bruce Wayne, Alfred, Jim Gordon, The Penguin, The Riddler, & Selina Kyle…who will become Catwoman. This core crew lasted from the pilot to now as we saw in last week’s penultimate episode, wherein they united to face down Bane and Nyssa al Ghul and the army they have co-opted control of.

Bruce tried to use the Joker’s old bombs to corner the army, but that did not cut them off from the Green Zone. Jim & Selina rescued Barbara and the baby from Nyssa, and he tried to have them all escape through tunnels. When Bane’s army showed up to kill Jim, the refugees stood in the way and the army refused to kill innocents. In the aftermath of this battle, Gotham was ready to rebuild. Penguin & Riddler vowed to be great villains again as Gordon was finally made Police Commissioner. Bruce left Gotham, seeking some sort of solace, leaving Selina only a note. She tried to head him off at the airport but failed.

Honestly, this could have been the last episode, but they wanted to fast forward the tale to when Bruce is fully Batman, hence tonight. I think we move into the future a few years, so maybe now the same gawky teen Bruce Wayne we’ve endured for years. I can’t wait either way and am mega-sad to see this show go. Guess we have Batwoman to look forward to at least!

On tonight’s episode, “The Beginning…” the series flash-forwards 10 years into the future, as Bruce is set to return to Gotham for the opening of the new Wayne Tower. A series of crimes leads Gordon to believe Penguin and the Riddler are up to their old tricks. However, when Bullock is framed for a murder, Gordon begins to piece together an even more sinister plot targeting the city, and a new figure emerges from the shadows to be the hero Gotham desperately needs.

Meet the new Batman on tonight’s series finale on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching the season finale of The Orville, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger.

Tonight, CBS’s family comedy Life in Pieces finally returns for its fourth season, with a double dose of new episodes. The series follows three generations of the Short family, with each episode comprised of four (fittingly) short stories. The third season ended with a big family party and some major announcements. First, Matt and Colleen announced that they were planning to adopt a baby. Then, Jen and Greg’s young daughter revealed that her parents were also expecting another child. Meanwhile, Heather and Tim already have their hands full with their own kids – Tyler announced that he and his young bride were going to get a divorce, while Samantha accidentally asked her boyfriend to be her first in front of the entire party. And Joan and John called off their travel plans to stick around for their kids and grandkids, especially since the family is about to get even bigger.

This show is always a lot of fun – it was disappointing to see the new season pushed out so late this year, but now I’m excited for another season of craziness with this extended family. I’m curious to see how the new children will affect the stories and family dynamic this season.

On tonight’s premiere, “Jungle Push Resort Anniversary,” the Shorts arrive at their vacation resort in the Yucatan, but their accommodations aren’t what they expected; Heather is ridiculously overprotective of Sophia; Jen and Greg discover that Matt and Colleen have been duping everyone. Nat Faxon guest stars.

Then, in “Demo Nosebreath Surgery Match,” when Colleen and Matt try to impress a potential birth mother, they have a hard time competing against another couple; Jen’s pregnancy takes a toll on Greg; Heather lets John take credit for her housekeeping; Joan recovers from knee surgery. Joey King guest stars.

Catch up with the Short family tonight on CBS at 8:31/7:31c & 9:30/8:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Grey’s Anatomy, The Big Bang Theory, Superstore, A.P. Bio, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Orville, and Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger.

It isn’t very often that I’m super excited about a normal episode of TV (normal as in regular season, not premieres or finales). But tonight’s SEAL Team is coming off a really dramatic one, and I can’t wait for tonight’s. Last week, the team was still deployed, their “Gucci” deployment to the Philippines, where they stay in a hotel while they train Filipino soldiers. It does seem like a cushy deployment – no one shooting at them, lots of downtime eating food from street vendors and drinking in bars. Ray has totally turned a 180 – flirting with a woman who I believe is an American…soldier of some kind? He’s drinking more and more – and hard liquor, not beer. He even lied to Jason about needing to go call Naima, when in reality he went to the bar to drink and talk to the woman. I’m so not liking him right now. Meanwhile, Davis is still at OCS, and last week didn’t go so well for her. It was basically “Hell” training, in which they had to go in a building and put out fires. Something must have happened in Davis’s past, because she clearly froze when she learned about it, and when she got inside and faced the actual fire, ready to go with the hose, she panicked and passed out. I’m wondering if there was a fire when she was a kid and a family member died or something.

But the biggest part of last week’s episode was the end… During their free time at night, the team was at the bar, having a good time, when suddenly there was an explosion. There were dead and injured, but our team and Mandy were all okay, including Sonny, who was outside talking on the phone with Davis. They immediately began searching for survivors and helping the wounded. Clay was all on top of it, running outside to start looking there. He reunited two little brothers, helping find the younger hiding in a truck. But then suddenly, he heard a phone ringing, and he realized it was coming from a backpack near him. Before he could react, it blew, throwing him back and causing severe injuries. He was so critically injured, in fact, that he was airlifted back to the States.

So now the team wants payback, not only for Clay but for the innocent people who were injured and killed. They want to find out who was behind the explosions, whether they were aimed at the team specifically or if it was just a coincidence that they were there. They’ll have to do that while under the watchful eye of Commander Shaw, who it feels like is out to get them – for mistakes made in Mexico, for Clay leaving behind a radio that the Chinese could get their hands on, etc… So hopefully they can find the answers they’re looking for and avoid getting disbanded by the commander.

On tonight’s episode, “Payback,” Bravo Team is out for revenge as they search for the person responsible for the surprise bomb attack that left one of their own in peril.

To see if the team can find answers and revenge tonight on CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Battle of the Ages, The Amazing Race, Dinner Takes All, Gone, Guy’s Grocery Games, & Whiskey Cavalier.

Tonight, Game of Thrones finally returns to HBO to kick off its 6-episode final season. As the season 7 came to a close, Jon Snow was worried about the approaching army of White Walkers. He headed to Dragonstone, hoping to convince Daenerys to allow him to mine the dragonglass in order to make weapons to defeat the Night King. In exchange, she asked for this King of the North to bend the knee and proclaim her the true Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, which he eventually did. However, Jon also needed to convince Cersei that the Night Army was real and a bigger threat than her current battle over the Seven Kingdoms. So Jon and some men went on a mission to capture a White Walker “alive.” They ended up getting surrounded by the Night Army, and all looked hopeless until Daenerys showed up with her dragons to save them. But in the process, the Night King managed to kill one of the dragons with his spear and later resurrected it for his army. The Night King and his army then finally made their way to The Wall and easily broke through thanks to the new dragon.

There was a big meeting of all of those vying for the crown in Kings Landing. After seeing the undead White Walker, and thanks to some pleading by Tyrion, Cersei agreed to supply her army for the fight against the Night Army. However, after everyone left, she revealed to Jamie that she had lied and had no intentions of helping Daenerys and the others in their fight against the White Walkers. Jamie was upset that his sister didn’t see the more important matter at hand and disobeyed her orders, fleeing to join the fight against the Night King. Meanwhile, Sam made his way to Winterfell and met with Bran. When the two compared their information, they discovered that Jon Snow was not the bastard they believed him to be – his real name was Aegon Targaryen, and he is the true heir to the Iron Throne. This would also make Daenerys his aunt…news that might be a bit awkward since the two were currently having sex on their ship back from the meeting with Cersei!

So with only 6 episodes left, there’s a lot of ground to cover. First and foremost, how will this group defeat the fast-approaching Night King and his Night Army? And once that is resolved, who will ultimately sit in the Iron Throne? How will Jon and Daenerys react to the news of Jon’s true identity and their familial relation? Not just because they are knocking boots, but also, it seems like Daenerys really wants the throne and may not be willing to bend the knee to her nephew. Also, what will Cersei be planning while the others are distracted fighting the White Walkers, so that she can ensure she remains on the throne?

I’m excited to see how the series comes to an end, but at the same time, it’s sad to think that there are only 6 episodes left! A couple weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to attend HBO’s world premiere for the final season in New York City, where I got to meet and shake hands with many of the cast members and got an early look at tonight’s episode! You can check out my write-up of the event at NoReruns.net.

Don’t miss tonight’s 54-minute premiere on HBO at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Good Girls, Killing Eve, A Discovery of Witches, Barry, and Veep.

I never tire of the family dynamics on Blue Bloods, and lately we have been seeing how Eddie is going to fit into the mix. Last week Jamie told Eddie that she shouldn’t join any clubs with other officers because she’s going to be the daughter-in-law of the Police Commissioner, and that means people will want favors. Eddie did not take well to being told what she should or should not do. Help came in an unlikely form when Danny stepped in and played the mediator for the two lovebirds. In the end, Jamie told Eddie to go play softball with the girls, and Eddie had a better understanding of Jamie’s original position. It is surprising that Danny was the one to be level-headed because he’s always been a hot head but even more since he lost Linda. I’m hoping as soon as Danny gets some closure on her death that he’ll be able to find some peace and love again.

On tonight’s episode, “Common Enemies,” after someone breaks into Luis Delgado’s home and kills his wife, Luis and Danny team up to take down the vicious murderer who may also be responsible for Linda’s death. Also, Frank finally meets Eddie’s mother, Lena, and Jamie and Erin are at odds after Jamie seeks her help charging a man who confessed to him while under the influence.

To see if these two enemies can work together for a united cause, tune in to CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching MacGyver, Proven Innocent, and Hawaii Five-0.
