It’s that time again, folks. No, not Indigenous Genocide Obfuscation Day, I mean the newest reason to binge a whole series in one night: Netflix’s The Punisher. The bloodiest corner of the Marvel Universe on film just gave the goriest hero that Marvel ever produced his own show! We were introduced to the Punisher, aka Frank Castle, in season two of Daredevil, and he was as grim and deadly as we could possibly hope. So much so that Netflix answered fan demands that they give him his own show.

As is the trend with these shows, the whole season dropped in the wee hours of the night last night, and we have all weekend to marinate in the bloodbath that this show promises. We know to expect that this show will deal heavily with his time in the US military and several huge gore fests that he took part in overseas while enlisted. Similar to the past-is-effecting-my-present trope that Arrow ran with for five years, that history in a far-off land will impact heavily on the current life that Castle leads. For people familiar with the book, we’ve been teased with appearances from canon of the Battle Van, Microchip, and Billy Russo, who in the books is villain Jigsaw, (who has nothing to do with the Saw movies, I swear!).

We don’t know tooooo much more about the show yet. Although fans are clamoring for appearances by Kingpin, Moon Knight, or Daredevil, there’s a good chance Micro and Jigsaw will be the limit. His trademark “skull-chest” outfit is in the show and done well, however. I for one am very amped to see how this one plays out. I used to read “Punisher: War Journals” as a teenager back in the 90s. Only back then they told the story with Castle being a Vietnam vet. After a weak Iron Fist, the Netflix Marvel Universe started to get its act back together on The Defenders. Let’s hope that momentum carries through and that this series takes us back near the greatness that Jessica Jones season one was.

You can check out all the action of season 1 now on Netflix!

I really enjoyed last week’s S.W.A.T. because the case-of-the-week was really interesting. Because Street went off book during a training exercise, he was “killed” and his team lost, which meant when four inmates escaped during transport, the two worst offenders were given to Mumford’s team to find, while Hondo’s team had to go after a local bad guy and a weird guy who was arrested flying back into the US with illegal turtles strapped to his legs. Mumford’s team quickly found the lessor bad guy of their two, but then Hondo’s team found their two, and the race was on to find the worst of the four…who was a violent criminal Jessica had helped put away. She explained to Hondo that a woman had testified, the only witness who would – and her son suffered for it. The word “rata” (Spanish for rat) was carved into his back.

Thankfully, Hondo and his team took the guy down after he kidnapped a 16-year-old young girl he said was “his.” Not only that, but the cousin who helped him escape went after the female witness and her kids, and Street and Chris took him down. The only thing that was a bit too silly for me was the way Hondo took the guy down – by standing outside a helicopter as it hovered outside the cabin the guy holed up in with his kidnap victim.

I’ve seen tonight’s episode as well as next week’s already, and I have to say, Street is growing on me. Even at the beginning of last week’s episode, I wasn’t sure about him, although I did like how he had learned and grown a little by the end. We learn more about him and his life in tonight’s episode, which is a great one!

On tonight’s episode, “Pamilya,” newcomer Jim Street jeopardizes his spot on Hondo’s team when he agrees to do a favor for his incarcerated mother that endangers his SWAT career. Also, the SWAT team searches for the ruthless mastermind behind a drug trafficking ring that forces immigrants to be mules. Sherilyn Fenn guest stars as Karen Street.

Find out what Street does for his mother tonight CBS at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, & Beat Bobby Flay.

MythBusters finally returns to kick off its 14-episode 20th season. Earlier this year, Science Channel aired the reality competition series MythBusters: The Search to find replacements for longtime hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman. The winners of this competition were New York product designer Jon Lung and Texan biologist/master builder Brian Louden (and his dog Bo). Tonight the new guys take over the duties of the MythBusters by tackling some fun new myths.

Even though the series has a pair of new hosts, the show still has the same fun look and feel that it always has – it really helps that the narrator is still the same. The format of the series also remains exactly same, with the episode jumping back and forth between the two different myths being explored. New hosts Jon and Brian have great chemistry and play off one another well. They both bring a nice blend of technical expertise and humor. While watching tonight’s premiere, I never found myself comparing these new hosts to Jamie and Adam – it just felt like I was watching yet another entertaining episode of MythBusters. I’m really glad this show is back!

On tonight’s premiere, “Heads Will Roll,” the MythBusters put an exploding airbag to the ultimate test and tackle an epic movie myth using a rocket-powered sword.

See how the new hosts stack up tonight on Science Channel at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Goldbergs, Speechless, Modern Family, American Housewife, Designated Survivor, Survivor, The Blacklist, Riverdale, You’re the Worst, Stan Against Evil, The Shannara Chronicles, and Mr. Robot.

Early today, Hulu released all 13 episodes of the first season of the new sci-fi comedy Future Man. Josh Futturman (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games) still lives at home with his parents, Gabe (Ed Begley Jr., St. Elsewhere) & Diana (Glenne Headly, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels). He works a dead-end job as a janitor at Kronish Laboratories, a sexual-disease research facility. He is obsessed with an unwinnable video game called Biotic Wars – it seems that no matter what he tries, he cannot complete the final level. However, one day he changes up his strategy and manages to win the game. Soon afterwards, he is visited by two characters from the game, Resistance leader Tiger (Eliza Coupe, Happy Endings) and foot soldier Wolf (Derek Wilson, Preacher, Rectify). They have traveled back in time from a bleak future, and Josh is the only person who can help fix things – the video game was a recruitment tool/test to help them find their Savior. After Josh gets over his initial disbelief, he soon discovers that these visitors are a quite crude, violent, and don’t understand proper human behavior. At the same time, Tiger and Wolf are disappointed to learn that Josh is not quite the fierce warrior they expected him to be. This trio must learn to work together to prevent the series of events that led up to the downfall of the planet.

The series comes from executive producers/directors Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg (Preacher). I recently binged the first seven episodes, and I would have watched the entire season had it been made available. Each episode blends right into the next, making the season feel like one long, epic movie. This show is hilarious, and I found myself constantly laughing out loud. It’s got physical humor, witty dialogue, and fun movie/pop-culture references strewn throughout. At the same time, it’s an action-packed sci-fi series. I also really enjoyed the fish-out-of-water aspect of Tiger and Wolf clashing/trying to fit in with modern culture and morals. It is so great seeing Eliza Coupe back on my TV in a comedy – Tiger is easily my favorite character on this series!

While the show may sound like a family friendly sci-fi action/comedy, there is a lot of adult language and situations, so parents may wish to check it out first before allowing younger viewers to watch.

Check out the entire first season now on Hulu!

I’ll also be watching/recording The Middle, Fresh Off the Boat, black-ish, The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, This Is Us, The Mick, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Flash, American Horror Story: Cult, and Damnation.

Tonight, Showtime kicks off the 6-part BBC comedy/thriller Ill Behaviour. Joel’s (Chris Geere, You’re the Worst) wife of 10 years has just divorced him, but his best friends Charlie (Tom Riley, DaVinci’s Demons) and Tess (Jessica Regan, Doctors) aren’t really that upset to see Steph go, as they never really liked her. While Joel wants to sulk and throw away his settlement money, his friends push him to get back into the dating world and set him up with American expat Nadia (Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex), an oncologist who also happens to be a raging alcoholic. When Charlie announces that he’s been diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and that he’s abandoning chemotherapy in favor of more natural treatments, this causes tension and division among the friends. And Joel starts going to extreme measures to try to save his friend.

The series is written by Sam Bain (Peep Show) and directed by Steve Bendelack (Friday Night Dinner). While I wasn’t laughing out loud at tonight’s premiere, it did have some humorous moments. By the end of the episode, the writers have set up an interesting turn of events, which could lead to a lot more comedy. I have enjoyed this cast’s previous work and look forward to learning more about these characters and seeing how the story progresses.

On tonight’s premiere, “Episode 1,” following his divorce, Joel reunites with his best friends from college; Charlie sets Joel up with Nadia.

Meet Joel and his friends tonight on Showtime at 10:30/9:30c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Good Doctor, Man With a Plan, Superior Donuts, Lucifer, The Gifted, and Supergirl.
