madoff23smallTonight, ABC airs the first half of its two-part Madoff original movie event, inspired by ABC News Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross’s book “The Madoff Chronicle.” It is a dramatization of the rise and fall of investment advisor Bernie Madoff (Richard Dreyfuss), who pulled off the largest financial Ponzi scheme in US history. The miniseries takes a look at how the events affected Madoff’s family and associates, including wife Ruth (Blythe Danner), sons Mark (Tom Lipinski) and Andrew (Danny Defarrari), brother Peter (Peter Scolari), secretary Eleanor Squillari (Erin Cummings), and CFO Frank DiPascali (Michael Rispoli). The rest of the characters include Harry Markopolos (Frank Whaley), the securities industry executive who first discovered what Madoff was up to, Carl Shapiro (Charles Grodin), who lost billions of dollars, and Gregory Perkins (Lewis Black).

I remember hearing about Bernie Madoff on the news but never really followed all of the details. I’m looking forward to checking this out tonight and learning what really went on during this big scandal. It looks like they’ve assembled quite an amazing cast!

The first half of the film airs tonight on ABC at 8/7c, and the 2-hour conclusion airs tomorrow.

I’ll also be watching/recording Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, Baby Daddy, Man Seeking Woman, Suits, Face Off, Younger, and Teachers.

secondchance113smallTonight, FOX kicks off its latest sci-fi drama venture, Second Chance, a modern-day Frankenstein tale/cop drama/thriller. Seventy-five-year-old Jimmy Pritchard (Philip Baker Hall, Modern Family) is a former LA County Sheriff who was forced to resign decades earlier due to his part in a corruption scandal. His health is failing, and now he spends his days drinking and hitting on hired women. One day, Pritchard stumbles into a robbery at his FBI Agent son Duval’s (Tim DeKay, White Collar) home and is killed in the process. However, his death is short-lived (so-to-speak) because billionaire high-tech twins Mary (Dilshad Vadsaria, Revenge) and Otto Goodwin (Adhir Kalyan, Rules of Engagement) reanimate his body as part of their secret Lookinglass experiment. The new younger, stronger Pritchard (Rob Kazinsky, True Blood) wakes up disoriented, angry, and confused. But he soon realizes that he has a second chance on life. How will he use it? Will he fall back to his old vices? Will he try to fix his relationship with his son? Will he try to clear his name? Will he go after the people who killed him? Who can he trust? Just how far can he stretch his new abilities, and what kind of complications will arise from the reanimation process?

The series comes from executive producer/writer Rand Ravich (Life, Crisis) and Emmy Award-winning executive producer Howard Gordon (Homeland, 24). Both of these guys know how to create a good, suspenseful series! The cast also includes Vanessa Lengies (Glee) and Ciara Bravo (Red Band Society).

I enjoyed tonight’s premiere a lot more than I expected to. I had some doubts after the show went through a series of name changes, starting off as The Frankenstein Code (which I think was the best), and then it became Lookinglass before settling on its current title. The pilot establishes some interesting characters and dynamics, a nice overall mystery/conspiracy and premise, and some great action-packed moments. I’m really looking forward to checking out more.

On tonight’s premiere, “A Suitable Donor,” a disgraced former cop gets a chance at redemption after he’s resurrected by a billionaire and his bioengineer twin sister, but it’s an opportunity that may not be worth the risk.

Catch this pilot and see if it’s worth second episode tonight on FOX at 9:01/8:01c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Younger, American Horror Story: Hotel, Man Seeking Woman, and Face Off.

mikeandmolly16smallI’m glad Mike & Molly is back tonight for the start of its new season. It was announced just a couple of weeks ago that this one would be its last, so here’s hoping we get a M&M baby, some happiness for Victoria and Carl, and Molly writes another best-seller. When we left off last season, Mike and Molly were celebrating their anniversary with a moonlit cruise with their friends and family, but after Carl and Victoria broke up, Mike was forced to uninvited Carl to the party. Carl came anyway, under the guise of being on the cruise with a date and not at the party itself, but he really made an ass of himself in a few ways and it seemed like not only was their friendship destroyed because of it, but their work partnership as well. I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and it’s very funny, picking up not long after the finale left off.

On tonight’s episode, “Cops On the Rocks,” Mike and Carl go to couples counseling to try and reconcile their partnership. Also, Molly decides to do a promotional radio interview on her own after Peggy decides not to participate.

Find out if counseling can help Mike and Carl tonight on CBS at 8:30/7:30c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 2 Broke Girls, The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Property Brothers, black-ish, Chicago PD, Mystery Diners, & Restaurant Startup.

themiddle1118smallI always enjoy holiday-themed episodes of family sitcoms, and tonight, Thanksgiving comes to the ABC Wednesday comedy lineup in both The Middle and The Goldbergs. The Middle has had a Thanksgiving episode every season, and they’re not going to break that tradition this year. The Hecks’ past Thanksgiving adventures have included Brick getting lost in a corn maze, Mike reconciling with his brother, Frankie and her sister spending the holiday at their parents’ house, Marines joining the Hecks for the meal, and a surprise visit from Dr. Goodwin and Uncle Rusty’s wife and kids. And last year, the Hecks headed to a restaurant buffet for the holiday, where Sue, Brick, and Axl all brought dates – though Axl’s date was a girl he didn’t even know.

So what does the holiday hold for the Hecks this year? Will they find themselves hosting more surprise guests? Will they spend the day together? Or will they each have different crazy situations to deal with? You can bet that no matter what happens, they’ll all come together by the end to celebrate the spirit of the holiday!

On tonight’s episode, “Thanksgiving VII,” the Hecks decide to forgo Thanksgiving when Frankie must pick up a holiday position as an overworked woman from the 19th-century; Sue goes back to work at Spudsy’s in hopes of running into Logan; and Axl becomes emotional over how his life’s turning out. Meanwhile, Mike and Brick bond during a power outage.

See all the Thanksgiving family fun tonight on ABC at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Survivor, Criminal Minds, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Empire, Arrow, Supernatural, American Horror Story: Hotel, The League, and You’re the Worst.

cutthroatkitchen2015smallOne of my favorite cooking competition shows is Cutthroat Kitchen. The sabotages on this show can be absolutely brutal. For the life of me, I couldn’t tell you which is my favorite, although I think the ones that force the chefs to use weird contraptions to mix, cut, or heat their food…or the ones that switch the basket ingredients for random, sometimes horrible, items…are the worst. And frankly, the chefs who refuse to spend a dime are just asking for trouble. I also love it when a chef sabotages themselves by forgetting one or more ingredients in the pantry. *laugh*

There are two episodes tonight. The first is a special, kind of a behind-the-scenes look at how to survive the sabotages. The second is the first episode in the latest “superstar” tournament, featuring superstar chefs trying to win money for their favorite charities. These are always a blast because these chefs are brilliant and always funny to watch.

On tonight’s first episode, “Secrets of Survival,” the secrets to surviving even the most wicked sabotages are revealed along with tips and tricks to outmaneuver the competition, impress the judges, and become the last chef standing. Then on the second episode, “Superstar Sabotage: Knife, Knife Baby,” chefs Richard Blais, Cat Cora, Melissa d’Arabian, and Aarti Sequeira face off; one chef must make an English breakfast while wearing knight’s armor; two chefs are then strapped toe-to-toe for a tofu challenge.

See if you think you could survive the sabotages tonight on Food Network at 8/7c & 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Hellevator, The Mysteries of Laura, Rosewood, Criminal Minds, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD, Code Black, & Mystery Diners.
