If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/6/15

Have you ever been at a loss as to what to watch? Too many shows to pick from? We’re here to give you our opinions on what we feel is worth watching. Check it out and then let us know in the comments below what you’re choosing for tonight! (Thanks for hanging in while we took a break. Spending a week in the hospital is a week too long! I’m glad to be home!)

survivorswasmallOn last week’s Survivor, Mike made a big move. He knew the big alliance was planning to vote out Shirin, but he wanted physical threat Tyler to go. So he pulled out his hidden immunity idol and claimed that he was going to give it to Shirin. He said that he would be voting for Tyler, and Shirin would be voting for one other random member of their alliance, so they could join him in voting for Tyler or risk being the one voted out by their own alliance. In the end, Mike didn’t give Shirin his idol and the alliance called his bluff, voting her out. However, Tyler and Dan each got votes, and Dan now knows he is the low man in his alliance.

Mike is seeming safe for another week, since he has his idol, and Dan still has his somewhat secret extra vote power (which Tyler learned about by rummaging through Dan’s bag). Will Dan partner up with Mike? Will the others now realize that Tyler is a threat and try to eliminate him? Who will be the next person to win immunity, and who will be the next person voted out? It’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out!

On tonight’s episode, “Holding On for Dear Life,” a reward challenge gives the winning castaways a chance to deliver supplies to a local orphanage. Later, players must scramble after a crazy tribal council leaves some on the outs.

Find out who goes home tonight on CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Criminal Minds, The Middle, The Goldbergs, Modern Family, black-ish, Arrow, Supernatural, Young & Hungry, and Big Time in Hollywood, FL.

criminalminds48smallIt’s been a couple of weeks since the last new Criminal Minds (and how good was that? I totally called the mother being a creepazoid!), and I’m so excited for tonight’s episode, I can’t even explain it. I know a lot of people are tired of spin-offs, but give me a spin-off of my favorite procedurals, and I’ll for it. So tonight is the planted pilot, for lack of a better phrase, for Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. The cast is fantastic for the new show: Gary Sinise (best known for his role on CSI: NY and as Lieutenant Dan on Forrest Gump) plays Jack Garrett, basically the Rossi of the group—he’s a 20-year veteran of the BAU; Anna Gunn (Breaking Bad) plays Lily Lambert, an international law expert; Daniel Henney (who starred in Three Rivers and guest starred a few times on Hawaii Five-0) is Special Agent Matthew Simmons, who is the “Morgan” of the group, kicking ass and taking names; and Tyler James Williams (probably best known for the role of Chris in Everybody Hates Chris, but he also guest starred in a handful of episodes of The Walking Dead more recently) plays the new team’s “Garcia,” tech guru Russ “Monty” Montgomery, who surprises Garcia with some of his additional responsibilities.

I think the show runners have learned their lesson after the failure of the first spin-off. This team is very much like the original BAU group, in that they work out of the FBI, unlike how Suspect Behavior worked out of a karate studio or old gym or whatever it was, and the team really echoes our FBI faves. So I have my fingers crossed that this plated pilot works well, because I really want Gary Sinise back on my screen every week!

On tonight’s episode, “Beyond Borders,” when a family of four is abducted while on vacation in Barbados, the BAU is called to assist Unit Chief Jack Garrett and his International Unit on their investigation. Garrett and his unit, the FBI’s top division for handling cases involving Americans abroad, work jointly with Hotch and his team when they discover that this case matches one the BAU investigated last year in Florida. Tom Everett Scott and Bonnie Somerville guest star as Greg and Colleen Sullivan, two members of the kidnapped family.

Meet the new team tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Young & Hungry, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Chicago PD, CSI: Cyber, Hot in Cleveland, & The Soul Man.

chicagopd41smallWhen Chicago PD first started, I was worried I wouldn’t like it because I remember Voight as being nothing but a corrupt…jerk (to put it politely) after he had the to-do with Casey on Chicago Fire. But he quickly grew on me. Does he still lean toward doing things on the wrong side of the line? Yeah, a lot of the time. But we’ve only seen him use his powers for good, which has been great. Last week, we saw him kidnap a diplomat from Argentina in order to help find out who murdered a young woman Ruzek had befriended while undercover with a protest group. I felt really bad for Ruzek, who took her death really hard because he knew she was a sweet girl who’d gotten mixed up in bad stuff. I loved how he finally leaned on Burgess for comfort. And finally, we met Halstead’s doctor brother, who came to Chicago for a seemingly innocent visit, but Halstead already knows (as do we) that there is some other reason for him to be here…

I have a feeling it’s going to be a hard episode tonight, as it’s going to pit Halstead (who is a true stand-up guy) against Voight when Voight crosses that line once more (but again, I think it’ll be for a good cause. Not saying that’ll excuse it. Just that it isn’t for his own gain.), and that scares me because I like Voight, but I LOVE Halstead. *sigh*

On tonight’s episode, “Get Back to Even,” Intelligence responds to a drug robbery gone wrong, and in their investigation, it’s revealed that the first person Voight ever gave his card to is linked to a double murder. Voight will fight to keep her family safe. At the same time, we learn the real reason why Halstead’s brother Will (guest star Nick Gehlfuss) came to Chicago. Meanwhile Desk Sgt. Platt takes care of a young girl at district.

Find out why Will is there and what tension there’s going to be with Voight tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing The Mysteries of Laura, Young & Hungry, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Best New Restaurant, Hot in Cleveland, & The Soul Man.

chicagopd225smallLast week’s Chicago PD was centered around Burgess—again—and was pretty rough on her. Before work, at the diner ordering breakfast, a strange guy called her out on her usual order. While on patrol, she admitted that she wasn’t sure she should’ve turned down the Intelligence gig. All of that combined to make her more restless and reCKless, as she followed her instincts about a guy (which were right, but still…) and charged into a dangerous situation without proper intelligence (knowledge, not the team) and backup. That ended up getting Roman beaten nearly to death and got dang close to them both being killed. It did up with the death of several other men. I did love seeing Adam worrying about being unable to reach her and then getting Voight to bring Intelligence in to find them based on his gut feeling alone. Bringing the story full circle, she surprised the waitress AND the strange guy at the diner the next time with something completely different than her normal order.

I feel like we’re getting more and more story lines involving her alone or her and Roman, which is okay, but…I think the others have been pushed off to the side, and I don’t like that. Maybe they can find a happy medium?

On tonight’s episode, “What Puts You On That Ledge,” Commander Fischer (guest star Kevin J. O’Connor) updates Voight on a missing officer that Narcotics had deep undercover with a robbery crew. Antonio connected with one of the crew members years ago, so he’s asked to reestablish contact to help them find the officer. Meanwhile, Roman and Burgess are dealing with a squatter situation and they enlist Chicago Fire’s Mouch (guest star Christian Stolte) to help.

See if Antonio can reestablish contact tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Melissa & Joey, The Mysteries of Laura, The Goldbergs, Law & Order: SVU, Modern Family, The Amazing Race, Mystery Diners, black-ish, Best New Restaurant, Wahlburgers, & Donnie Loves Jenny.

Megan’s Choice

chicagopd211smallI’m not sure about everyone else, but I was on the edge of my seat watching last week’s Chicago PD episode, especially seeing as it was a crossover from Chicago Fire. Robert Knepper was perfectly creepy as the arsonist, Gish. What a great casting choice… He always manages to give me chills when he’s being the villain on a show. Antonio went with his sister, Gabriella, who was sure that Gish was the arsonist responsible for Shay’s death (the paramedic on Chicago Fire), and while they didn’t have any hard evidence, Antonio believed his sister enough to bring Gish in for questioning. Voight knew he was the guy after talking with him, but Gish’s lawyer got him off, which led to a wild episode of cat and mouse, including Gish blowing up Roman and Burgess’s squad car. Later, we found out that Gish was now targeting Gabriella, and he ended up luring her to a building with a fake text message. Just as he was about to light the elevator on fire, intent on burning her alive, Antonio swept in and saved her. It was an intense moment. On another note, Lindsay was happy to be back with her old unit and was enjoying her secret relationship with Jay. Unfortunately, her mother called at the end of the episode and ruined her happiness by revealing she may know a murderer—her mom really knows how to cause stress and drama in Lindsay’s life. I’m looking forward to this week’s episode immensely, and I hope that we get to see more of Lindsay and Jay together.

On tonight’s episode, “Erin’s Mom,” Bunny comes to Lindsay, concerned about a suspicious repeat customer at her husband’s rental company. This lead brings Intelligence into a case which Robbery-Homicide has been working for months. Detective Gina Gawronski downloads their intel to the team. She also happens to be Antonio’s former co-worker from Vice. Voight doesn’t trust Bunny’s motives for the tip.

To see how Lindsay and the team handle this “tip,” tune in to NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Criminal Minds, black-ish, The Mentalist, Arrow, Empire, Wahlburgers, Donny Loves Jenny, and Law & Order: SVU.
