If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/3/14

Comic-Con is less than three weeks away, and now I’m in full panic mode as panel and press room schedules are starting to go out. This will be the first year I’ll be officially attending as press, so I’m trying to schedule more press-y things than ever before. Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, which means there’s pretty much just fireworks on TV. So we’ve got some recommendations to help you get ready for the long (slow tv) weekend.

bigbrother2012smallLast night on Big Brother, Caleb and Devin got paranoid that greenskeeper Donny was actually a Navy Seal or some kind of super soldier. So they made him the target of “Bomb Squad” alliance. It was heartbreaking to see how trustful Donny was toward Devin and how much of a jerk he was in return. Fortunately, the not-so-simple-minded Donny won the spelling veto competition by leaps and bounds. So when Donny took himself off the block, Caleb put Joey up in his place because she tried to start an all-girl alliance.

Tonight, we get the first eviction of the new season of Big Brother, and either Paola or Joey will be sent packing. I don’t really care which one goes—I am just so happy that Donny was able to save himself last night, because I really want him to win!

Find out who gets sent home tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Rookie Blue, Undateable, Defiance, Dominion, and Rectify.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/22/14

I am really enjoying this temporary lull in the TV season as fall shows wind down and just before the summer shows start up—I actually have a chance to clear up my TiVo backlog and catch up on some movies! But as the networks move to year-round programming, this lull is getting shorter and shorter, and tonight, we’ve got handful of series/season premieres. In addition to those we are going to mention below, I’d like to point out that tonight, The CW is also premiering a 2-night miniseries, Labyrinth, which aired a couple of years ago in Canada and some other countries. Here’s what else we recommend you check out tonight…

gangrelated522smallTonight, the new action-drama Gang Related joins FOX’s primetime lineup. The series follows the elite Los Angeles Gang Task Force as they try to take down the gangs that are corrupting the city. The task force is led by Sam Chapel (Terry O’Quinn), who is unaware that one of his team members, Detective Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), had sworn allegiance to the leader of the Latino gang Los Angelicos as a child. Lopez finds himself trying to balance his two worlds—attempting to do what is right, while also feeding information to Javier Acosta (Cliff Curtis), the gang’s leader. The cast also includes RZA, Rey Gallegos, Jay Hernandez, Sung Kang, Inbar Lavi, and Shantel VanSanten.

I thought this was an interesting premise, turning the usual undercover cop idea on its head. I’m interested to see how the story moves forward, how Lopez manages to keep his double-life a secret, and if we will see him choose one loyalty over the other.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” Ryan teams up with a street-savvy veteran cop after his partner is killed by a well-known hoodlum.

See how the story begins tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Bad Teacher, Hollywood Game Night, & Labyrinth.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 4/10/14

Earlier this week, it was the latest in the long series of stressful hurdles that is attending San Diego Comic-Con—the hotel lottery. While the process itself takes less than a minute, it’s the 3-day wait to find out if you got a hotel that’s the really stressful part. At least the weekend is almost here, and I’m excited for Saturday, as I’ll be driving to NYC to attend the Saturday Night Live dress rehearsal show. But since that’s still two nights away, let’s get to our TV recommendations for tonight.

suits410smallTonight, the third season of Suits comes to a close. Last week, Louis didn’t take his break-up well, shutting himself off from the rest of the world. Back at the office, an attorney threatened to reveal that Harvey and Mike had used bribery to win a case, but Harvey wanted to squash the situation before people started delving into Mike’s past. Meanwhile, Mike told Rachel about the investment banking job offer, and she agreed he should take it because his fake degree would never let him reach his full potential as a lawyer. And Jessica had to deal with a former partner who was out for revenge.

It looked like Mike was leaning toward taking the job, but then he told Harvey he got a hacker to enter his information into the state bar system. At the same time, Harvey was thinking of telling Scottie the truth about Mike since his constant lying was pulling them apart. Will Mike stay, and is he still in danger of being found out? Will Harvey continue to keep the secret? And will Louis be able to protect Jessica and the firm from Charles’s attack?

On tonight’s episode, “No Way Out,” Harvey and Mike clash with a tenacious U.S. attorney. Elsewhere, Scottie and Harvey struggle to reach a compromise, and Mike and Rachel have different ideas about the future.

See how the season ends tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Big Bang Theory, The Millers, The Crazy Ones, Elementary, Grey’s Anatomy, Community, Parks and Recreation, Parenthood, Surviving Jack, Sirens, and Review.
