If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/26/14

Ugh. Welcome back to school. Here’s your yearly dose of sore throats, coughs, and drippy noses. Yes, the little petri dishes are back, which means they soak up every bit of germs they can and then bring it home, infecting not only themselves, but their families as well. My kiddo came home sick last week—stayed home from school for two days—then my husband got it over the weekend and stayed home Monday from work. Monday night? It’s my turn. So it’s all happy happy joy joy here. Josh is still fighting off his cough, Scott just feels blech, and my throat and nose feel like they’re trying to make me cry. To take my mind off our temporary ill health, let’s see what we’re recommending for tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

choppedsmallI’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… I love when Chopped runs a special tournament. The one that’s starting tonight is a biggie. Sixteen previous winners are coming back to compete in one big five-week “Ultimate Champions” tournament. Chefs/cooks from four different groups (pros, amateurs, heroes, & celebrities) compete one group per week, and then in week five, the four winners compete in the grand finale for the chance to win $50,000 and a new car! That’s the biggest prize in the show’s history, but with so many great competitors, it’s no wonder.

On tonight’s episode, “Ultimate Champions: Pros,” four professional chefs have to wrangle and cook eels and figure out what to do with a super-salty veggie for their appetizers. Then, in the entree round, they have to work with a bird and a soda. And a special cheese and a creepy chocolate item appear in the dessert basket.

Find out what the creepy chocolate item could be tonight on Food Network at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Food Fighters, America’s Got Talent, Rizzoli & Isles, Royal Pains, Restaurant Startup, Sullivan & Son, & Wizard Wars.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/27/13

Unlike last week, I’m wide awake when I write this. *laugh* Just like last week, it’s just Kyle and me tonight. Everyone keep Megan in your thoughts, as she’s feeling icky today. Poor thing. Let’s see what Kyle & I recommend that she—and you—can watch tonight.

Jenny’s Choice

rizzoliisles827smallLast week’s Rizzoli & Isles was great. I loved all the case stuff—from Jane dealing with memories of Hoyt, to figuring out that the bodies were real, to finally figuring out the killer. The mom & son serial killer team? Completely and utterly creepy and wacko. But how freakin adorable were Korsack’s puppies? As for tonight, Lt. Martinez is back. I just can’t get past the feeling that there’s something either hinky about this guy (like maybe he’s not a completely straight cop…maybe a little dirty?) or he’s trying to come between Jane and Casey. Either way, I don’t like him. 😉

On tonight’s episode, “Built for Speed,” when a late-night amateur drag race turns deadly, the squad works quickly to solve what turns out to be a particularly dangerous case. As evidence unfolds, Jane suspects that the motive for murder may have been an attempt to conceal drug trafficking. However, when she turns to Lt. Martinez (guest star Amaury Nolasco) for help he seems to be thwarting her investigation.

To see why Jane feels like he’s more of a hindrance than a help, tune in to TNT at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing So You Think You Can Dance?, Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Capture, Covert Affairs, & The Little Couple.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/23/13

Summer is winding down, at least for my kiddo, who goes to band camp in a week and starts school in just a couple of weeks as well. Summer TV, on the other hand, is alive and well. Because of that, we’re here to recommend a few things we think are worth watching. Take our advice… I promise, it’s worth it. 😉

Jenny’s Choice #1

covertaffairs723smallLast week’s premiere of Covert Affairs was sweet and romantic, tense and exciting, and surprising and even more shocking all at the same time. Annie and Auggie were too cute and sexy together. But SO MUCH happened. Joan’s pregnant, Arthur stepped down, Henry Wilcox is trying to get Annie to join him against Arthur, and Arthur and Auggie are keeping some secret from everyone. (Are they gay? Did they have a secret affair? No? Damn. 😉 ) Oh, and Arthur has a son who’s a cartel leader. So yeah, it really wasn’t a huge premiere or anything! *laugh*

On tonight’s episode, “Dig for Fire,” after a bombshell revelation rocks the CIA, Annie and Auggie combine forces with Arthur in an attempt to bring Henry’s hidden agenda to light. Joan finds a personal moment to confide in Annie.

Watch the good guys try to bring down the bad tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/16/13

Welcome back to the oddly cool summer temperatures—at least in my part of the country. Not like it’s been in the 60s, or even 70s, but the mid- to high-80s in mid-July? Yeah, I’ll take it! I’ll also take how excited I am for tonight’s new night of television… Like…seriously excited. *squee* So check out what we’re recommending on such a great night!

covertaffairs716smallAmerica’s favorite spy is back! (No, sadly, not Alias, but a close second! 😉 ) Annie and Auggie, my favorite summer crime-fighting duo, return tonight in the new season of Covert Affairs. It’s a huge return, too, as fans of this adorable couple will remember that last season ended with him showing up at her door, explaining that he didn’t want to wait any longer, and then kissing. Of course, there was stuff going on with Arthur and Joan and Henry, etc. And that’s important, too. Really. But honestly? It’s Annie & Auggie!! Yay!

I’ve seen tonight’s premiere, and I promise fans of the couple will be overjoyed. It’s a really great episode, with drama, action, steamy romance, and mysteries galore. I can’t wait to watch it again tonight!

On tonight’s episode, “Vamos,” while carrying on a search inside Colombia for a new person of interested named the Puma, Annie has the daunting task of balancing the two new relationships in her life: a growing romance with Auggie, and her professional partnership with Henry Wilcox. Hill Harper (CSI: NY) guest stars.

See what stories Henry tells and find out just who the Puma is tonight on USA Network at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Whose Line Is It Anyway?, America’s Got Talent, Rizzoli & Isles, & Chopped.
