If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/22/14

It’s the beginning of a crazy week of TV, which is both good and bad. *laugh* I had a good day Saturday, working on the schedule for the site, napping, and watching Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit. I’ve been itching for a good action movie, and this filled the bill. But I’m ready for some great new TV, and I’m hoping this week will fill that one, starting tonight, so check out Kyle’s and my recommendations. 🙂

thelastshipsmallTonight is the series premiere of what I think should be a great new show, The Last Ship. Based on William Brinkley’s popular novel, starring Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), and executive-produced by blockbuster filmmaker Michael Bay (Transformers), it opens with a global catastrophe that nearly decimates the world’s population. Because of its positioning, the Navy destroyer U.S.S. Nathan James avoids falling victim to the devastating tragedy. But now, Captain Tom Chandler (Dane) and his crew must confront the reality of their new existence in a world where they may be among the few remaining survivors. Rhona Mitra (Strike Back) plays Rachel Scott, a strong-willed, intelligent and fearless paleomicrobiologist assigned to the ship. Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) is XO Mike Slattery, a former homicide detective and Chandler’s second-in-command. Also starring in The Last Ship are Travis Van Winkle (Heart of Dixie), Charles Parnell (Pariah), Christina Elmore (Fruitvale Station), Sam Spruell (Snow White and The Huntsman), and Marissa Neitling (Leverage).

I’ve been looking forward to this one ever since I heard about it months ago. I love Eric Dane and Adam Baldwin, and the premise is interesting, so here’s hoping it’s great!

On tonight’s episode, “Phase Six,” Captain Tom Chandler and the crew of the USS Nathan James set out for the Arctic with two civilian virologists, Dr. Rachel Scott and Dr. Quincy Tophet, who claim to be studying birds. When they come under attack by a renegade team of Russian forces, Chandler learns these virologists are actually collecting samples of the source of a deadly virus that has wiped out over half the human population while they’ve been at sea. As they head home on the orders of the remaining U.S. government, Chandler and his crew realize that home is a shadow of what they left, and the safest place to develop a vaccine for this deadly disease is out at sea on their ship.

Watch how it all starts tonight on TNT at 9/8c.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 3/28/14

It’s been a hectic and busy week around my house, with family visiting and celebrating Pherson’s third birthday. I cannot believe that my baby boy is 3 already. It seems like just yesterday that he was a chubby baby I was rocking to sleep, and now he’s a mischievous little boy who can ride a bike! Let’s see what’s on TV tonight to amuse you and help keep my mind off my baby not being a baby anymore.

hartofdixie328smallHart of Dixie came back with a mess of relationship drama last week, and what a mess it was. Lemon returned, and we found out she’d been dating two guys while she was at her grandma’s, but that all blew up in her face when the two men found out about each other. Don’t be too upset, because both Carter and Enrique want to keep Lemon, so they are going to continue to try to win her affection and see who ends up with her as a prize. Zoe tries hard to please her mom, but in the end, she can’t run a smear campaign against Brick because the town is her family and she doesn’t want to hurt anyone. Her mom heads home, but at least they parted on good terms. I’m not sure how I feel about Zoe and Joel still being together, but at least he’s trying, and she needs to focus more on figuring out her career and less time searching for acceptance from her mom.

On tonight’s episode, “Ring of Fire,” Joel hires dubious workers for his renovations, resulting in an accident on the site; Lavon struggles to draw ticket sales for a renaissance fair.

To see what happens during the renovations, tune in to The CW at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Say Yes to the Dress, Enlisted, Diners, Drive-ins & Dives, and Hannibal.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 2/7/14

It’s been entirely too many days off school in a row for my kid. I think they’d have gone to school today, except it’s been scheduled off since the beginning for parent/teacher conferences. Happy happy joy joy. LOL While I wish that I could go back to sleep, check out what Kyle & I are recommending tonight.

enlisted27smallI really enjoy FOX’s latest comedy, Enlisted. I think even Kyle’s enjoying it, despite his lack of enthusiasm for the pilot the first time he watched it over the summer. It’s just cute and sweet and funny, and the three guys who play brothers have great chemistry. Last week was great, even though it was another case of being a bit confused because of episodes being aired out of order. It was episode ten, and suddenly, Derrick was dating a woman at the bar. He even seemed okay with the fact that she had a kid, and her ex was deployed overseas. When she couldn’t take the boy to Disney, Derrick planned to, but he screwed up when asking the boy for his biggest wish, promising to make it come true…only to be told that the boy wanted his dad home from war. In the end, Derrick and Randy worked together to make it a homecoming the boy would never forget. The sweetest part was watching the brothers show Randy—who lamented all episode about wishing he’d gotten a reunion like that with their dad—that he did indeed get a great reunion, which was even captured on video, with their dad…he just hadn’t been born yet. The video showed his dad greeting the other two boys and their mom…and then kneeling and kissing her very-large stomach, where she was quite pregnant with Randy. It was fantastic and made me teary-eyed. 🙂

On tonight’s episode, “Rear D Day,” Pete’s new attitude of embracing his Rear D duties is challenged by the husband of a deployed soldier. When things go too far, Pete must make amends. Meanwhile, Cody enlists Jill’s help with a private matter.

See why Pete must make amends tonight on FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Raising Hope & Diners, Drive-ins & Dives.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 1/17/14

I’m excited for tomorrow night because I’m getting to go out for dinner with other adults. Believe me, in my world, that is a huge deal. No cutting up other people’s food or coloring at the dinner table… Well, at least I hope no one is going to need me to cut their meat! While I anxiously await tomorrow and my evening out, let’s see what’s on our televisions tonight to keep us entertained.

grimm117smallI’m so pleased with the writing on Grimm this season. It’s just been so much stronger than last season, in my opinion. Last week’s episode was incredibly well done and addressed some very intense story lines. Nick told Juliette that her college friend Alicia, who was staying with them because her dirt bag boyfriend beat her, is a Wesen. Juliette was very upset that Alicia didn’t tell her herself, but after chatting with Rosalee, she realized it was more about Alicia’s fear of being accepted and that she just needed to give it time. When Alicia’s ex, Joe, showed up to the house, he got into a scuffle with Nick, and then the girls got after him. He came into the wrong house! There was no one there afraid of his Wesen side and no sympathy as Juliette and Alicia continued to kick is ass all over the place. In the end, Alicia showed her Wesen side to Juliette, and they hugged it out. Such a great story line!

Also in that episode, a case brought Hank into the path of his sexy physiotherapist again when her brother was an eye witness in a gang murder case. During the course of the investigation, we found out that she and her brother are both yaguarete (looks a lot like a cheetah). The sister saved the day at the end by changing forms and taking out a gang member by ripping out his throat. Hank was still interested in a relationship with her after that, but she wasn’t. I hope she changes her mind, because they’re great together.

On tonight’s episode, “The Good Soldier,” Nick and Hank investigate the mysterious death of a Wesen soldier.

To unravel the mystery of the Wesen soldier, tune in to NBC at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0, Bones, Undercover Boss, and Enlisted.

Interview with Geoff Stults from Enlisted

Tonight is the series premiere of Enlisted on FOX. The show is about a guy in the Army who is serving overseas and kind of has a breakdown, and he gets sent to a new unit back home…the same unit where his brothers both serve. Geoff Stults, Chris Lowell, & Parker Young star as the three Hill brothers. Recently, Geoff took a moment to speak to the press about his role and the show.

On his favorite scene so far

enlistedcall110asmallGeoff: That’s tough for me to say, but I think as far as just one quick scene, and it’s not very quick, but the finale scene with my two brothers and Keith David and [me] is really poignant and this is the finale of the last episode, the last scene of the last episode. It’s really poignant for my character and for the arc that the whole show goes on sort of being sort of seen through my eyes in a way or driven by Sergeant Pete Hill. But on a day in, day out basis or episode by episode basis, my favorite scenes are always the scenes that include the whole platoon because I just am so entertained and I got so much respect for our whole cast of characters, the whole platoon, all the comedians and everybody. So for me it’s just fun to be in those scenes, because I’m like you guys; I’m an audience member when it comes to that watching these guys do their comedy.
