cakewarssmallI love all the “wars” they have on Food Network (Halloween Wars is probably my favorite), so I’m very happy about tonight’s premiere of Cake Wars (not to be mistaken for Cupcake Wars). Hosted by Jonathan Bennett, the show will feature four expert bakers creating an elaborate cake in a grueling competition. The winner’s cake will be the star of a major event and will earn them the $10,000 prize. Master pastry chefs Waylynn Lucas and Ron Ben-Israel will judge.

On tonight’s episode, “The Simpsons,” one of the biggest television families ever is airdropping into Cake Wars — The Simpsons. They’re throwing a huge bash to celebrate their success and one of our cake makers will have their winning creation front and center at the event — and walk out $10,000 richer. Executive Producer of The Simpsons Matt Selman will help determine which baker wins and which will be left saying “D’oh!?”

See whose cake wins the top spot tonight on Food Network at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing American Ninja Warrior, So You Think You Can Dance, Major Crimes, Guilty Pleasures, Murder in the First, & Top 5 Restaurants.

bones611smallLast week on Bones, Booth, Brennan, and the squints had to try to find the murderer of an ex-con and biker gang member turned yoga instructor. He’d been in a motorcycle crash, which meant he couldn’t ride as often or as long as he used to, and after that and prison, he’d turned his life around. Unfortunately for him, his newfound generosity is what got him killed — when he decided to help a fellow ex-con and biker gang member who was trying to make a fresh start and needed money, the victim’s girlfriend and co-owner of the yoga studio killed him. On the personal side of things, Booth is working hard to stay “sober” and earn Brennan’s trust back, and it’s working… She is slowly thawing. And Angela and Hodgins made the decision that they were going to leave the Jeffersonian and move to Paris.

Tonight is the season finale, and I’m very unhappy about that. So many questions… Will Brennan finally forgive Booth and ask him to move back home? Will Angela and Hodgins actually leave the Jeffersonian? Surely not. The show will be back next season, and I can’t imagine it without any members of the team. (I have seen the finale, so I know what happens with all the characters, and I will only say that it’s a great — and surprising — finale.)

On tonight’s episode, “The Next in the Last,” when the Jeffersonian team discovers remains of a victim, and elements of the crime scene point to a possible protégé of serial killer Christopher Pelant, they must revisit their prior work on Pelant while tracing new clues that will hopefully lead them to the copycat killer. Meanwhile, Angela is skeptical about Hodgins’ and her decision to move to Paris and Brennan and Booth contemplate options outside of the Jeffersonian and FBI.

Find out if/how Pelant is tied to the new victim and what Angela/Hodgins & Booth/Brennan decide tonight on FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing Beat Bobby Flay.

ncisnola55smallLast week’s NCIS: NOLA was a shocker. Lasalle’s brother called him late one night, and when Lasalle and his girlfriend, Savannah, showed up to meet Cade, they discovered the body of Cade’s girlfriend in his trunk. He swore he didn’t do it, that he’d been set up, and eventually the team figured out that he’d indeed been set up and they caught they people responsible. That was sad in and of itself because it seems like Cade’s doing really well — he’s on his meds, going to a therapist, etc. I hope this doesn’t cause him to slip backwards. But the shocker was Baitfish was back…and at the very end of the episode, we saw him confront Savannah…and then there was a gunshot after a fade to black. Based on tonight’s episode description, I can only assume that he shot her and she’s dead. That really sucks because they were cute together and I don’t want Lasalle hurt. Then again, I love the chemistry he and the undercover DEA agent (I think?) have, so I guess this opens up that door.

On tonight’s episode, “How Much Pain Can You Take,” to send a message to Pride, Baitfish murders someone close to the NCIS team, prompting a citywide manhunt for the elusive criminal.

Find out who dies and if Pride and the team can catch Baitfish tonight on CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/DVRing 19 Kids & Counting, Hell’s Kitchen, NCIS, iZombie, Undateable, Chicago Fire, Chopped, & Your Family or Mine.

gameofthrones412smallYou really can’t lose with tonight’s amazing lineup on HBO — I love returning comedies Silicon Valley and Veep, and Last Week Tonight is always informative and hilarious. However, the show I’m most excited for is the return of Game of Thrones.

When we last visited Westeros, Jon was trying to negotiate an end to the battle with the Wildling king when Stannis and his army arrived; Cersei brought in a young doctor to try to save the Mountain from dying from the poisoned spear Oberyn pierced him with; Daenerys decided to chain up her dragons after they started eating the villagers; and Bran, Hodor, and his crew visited the Three-Eyed Raven in the forest, who revealed that Bran would not walk again but would fly. Elsewhere, Brienne came across Arya and the Hound and started a fight with the Hound, mortally wounding him as she knocked him off a cliff. The Hound begged Arya to kill him, but she just took his money and left him to die. Later, she boarded a ship, using her “Valar Morghulis” chip to gain passage. And finally, Jaime and Varys helped Tyrion escape before his execution, but on his way out, Tyrion first strangled Shae and then executed his father while he sat on the toilet.

There’s so many characters to keep track of! Tonight we’ll finally see the fallout from Tyrion’s escape and murder of Tywin and see what moves those vying to sit atop the Iron Throne will make next. I’m looking forward to another exciting season!

On tonight’s episode, “The Wars to Come,” Varys struggles to convince Tyrion to think outside the box while discussing a potential occupant of the Iron Throne. Meanwhile, Stannis leans on Jon to secure loyalty from a rival; Daenerys ignores tradition to remain on her progressive path; and Cersei and Jaime try to move on from Tywin’s demise.

Enjoy the return of all the drama tonight on HBO at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, Once Upon a Time, American Odyssey, Family Guy, The Last Man on Earth, Mad Men, 2015 MTV Movie Awards, The Royals, Silicon Valley, Veep, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and Nurse Jackie.

americanodyssey45smallApril is such a busy month for new TV — tonight there are 6 new/returning shows alone! However, one of these new shows, American Odyssey, is one that I have been anxiously awaiting since I first saw the pilot last summer! Sergeant Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel, Pushing Daisies) is an American special operations soldier sent on a secret mission to find the wife of an Al Qaea leader in Mali, North Africa. After she comes across some documents that prove a US corporation was funding Al Qaeda, she finds herself a target. Now she is stranded abroad, struggling to find any way home. Meanwhile, back on US soil, former U.S. attorney turned corporate lawyer Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli, Nurse Jackie) discovers discrepancies in the financials of a big corporate merger he is working on; and political activist Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson, The Carrie Diaries) meets hacker Bob Offer (Nate Mooney, The Riches), who claims to have uncovered a big military cover-up involving Sergeant Ballard.

The amazing cast also includes Jim True-Frost (The Wire), Sadie Sink, Omar Ghazaoui, Elena Kampouris (Men, Women & Children), Daniella Pineda, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), and Treat Williams (Everwood).

Tonight’s premiere is really well done — it was one of my favorite pilots last year, and I don’t understand why it has taken so long to be added to NBC’s schedule! The show has the epic look and feel of a feature film, and tonight’s premiere sets up a really interesting conspiracy, as well as Ballard’s emotional journey to return home (which is the only aspect of the show that NBC seems to be promoting in its ads). However, the series is an intense, dramatic political thriller — you don’t know who’s hiding what and who can be trusted, and whenever someone gets too close to the truth, they wind up dead. I’m excited to see how these three intertwined stories come together and how it all plays out.

On tonight’s episode, “Gone Elvis,” Sgt. Ballard stumbles upon incriminating computer files, only to become the sole survivor of an attack on her unit, in the series premiere of this drama centering on an international conspiracy and its impact on three strangers.

Find out how Sgt. Ballard survives and see the start of her struggle for home tonight on NBC at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching/recording Madam Secretary, The Good Wife, A.D. The Bible Continues, Mad Men, The Royals, Shameless, Happyish, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
