Tonight is the series premiere of Breaking Big on PBS at 8:30/7:30c. Hosted by Carlos Watson, an Emmy(R) Award-winning journalist and co-founder and CEO of OZY.com, Breaking Big explores the twists and turns on the road to thriving careers for some notable figures in various fields. The series of 30-minute documentary films traces the unusual paths followed by 12 talented men and women — from country music superstar Jason Aldean and former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson to Oscar-winning director Lee Daniels and chef and restaurateur Eddie Huang — who overcame nearly insurmountable obstacles and long odds to reach and reimagine their own potential and, ultimately, to break big. The series will include analysis from eminent social scientists, marketing experts, film critics, book editors and others to help viewers understand the risk-taking and bold moves these journeys require.

Tonight is the series premiere of Just Another Immigrant on Showtime at 9/8c, followed by a 2nd new episode at 9:30/8:30c. This is a comedic docuseries that follows Romesh Ranganathan, one of the most popular stand-ups in the UK, as he uproots his entire family – his supportive wife, their three kids, his Sri Lankan mother and his eccentric uncle – and immigrates to the U.S. Displaced in Los Angeles, Ranganathan attempts to find success and happiness, while rebuilding a life from scratch. In addition to his efforts to adapt, he has committed himself to booking a U.S. gig — the 6,000-seat Greek Theater — with only three months to sell it out. The series chronicles the true-life adventures of this modern immigrant family and the obstacles of making it in today’s America.

Tonight is the series premiere of C.B. Strike on Cinemax at 10/9c. C.B. Strike is a war veteran turned private detective who operates out of a tiny office in London’s Denmark Street. Although wounded both physically and psychologically, his unique insight and background as a military police investigator prove crucial in solving complex crimes that have baffled the police. It’s based on the bestselling novels written by Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. Tom Burke (Only God Forgives) stars as private detective Cormoran Strike and Holliday Grainger (The Borgias) stars as Robin Ellacott, his new assistant and protégé. C.B. Strike launches with three one-hour episodes based on “The Cuckoo’s Calling,” the first book in the trilogy, followed by adaptations of the remaining two books, “The Silkworm” and “Career of Evil,” both of which consist of two one-hour episodes.
