If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/4/13

I’ve been complaining for the last few days that there wasn’t very much on TV, but we all know that in a couple more weeks, I’ll be saying that I don’t have time for everything that’s on. 🙂 I suppose we should enjoy this lull before we jump into the swing of the new television season, so let’s see what’s on tonight.

Megan’s Choice

masterchef2012smallWe are down to the final four on MasterChef, and despite Kyle’s hate for her, Krissi is still in it! I get it. She has a horrible attitude, but I think she really is one of the most improved chefs overall. When she gets out of her own way, she is a great cook! Then again, so is Natasha, and I don’t like her very much, but would rather see her win instead of Luca. In the end, I’m not sure who are going to be the final two cooks, but whoever it is, there will be a good competition.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 4 Compete; Top 3 Compete,” the cooks split into two teams for the mystery box challenge; the remaining three contestants cook more sophisticated versions of the dishes they made in their initial auditions.

To see who makes it through to the Top 2, tune in to FOX at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching Duck Dynasty and Top Chef Masters.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/21/13

I had a great beginning to the week with my sister visiting me for a few days. I haven’t seen her since June, so it was long overdue. We had a lot of laughs and spent some quality time together, but today, she had to go home. 🙁 I guess I’m going to console myself with some television tonight, so let’s see what’s on.

Megan’s Choice

masterchef2012smallI’m really excited to see how the last few weeks of MasterChef unfold, because there have been some people that were sitting in the middle of the pack that are now taking front seats. Last week, Krissi won her first mystery box, and despite the fact that a lot of people don’t like her, I do. It’s true, she can be childish and bitchy, but so can Natasha. Honestly, I believe that because so many of the contestants automatically judged Krissi so harshly in the beginning, she decided to just put on an act of being super tough. In the end, I’d be happy if she won, but honestly, I think sadly it’s going to be Natasha.

On tonight’s episode, “Top 6 Compete,” the cooks must re-create popular dishes served at a fine-dining restaurant in downtown Los Angeles; the losing team must prepare a perfect plate of fried calamari with a side of marinara sauce.

To see which cook fails to meet the standards, tune in to FOX at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Modern Dads, Broadchurch, Top Chef Masters, and Duck Dynasty.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/17/13

By the time this posts, I’ll be en route to San Diego for Comic-Con. I’m both excited and a bit stressed—there’s just so much going on and there’s not enough time (and it’s completely impossible) to do everything. But what I’m really looking forward to is meeting the cast of Breaking Bad—I won a ticket to the fan celebration event on Sunday afternoon! 🙂 But enough about my trip—TV doesn’t stop for Comic-Con. Tonight, there’s a lot on, and we’ve got some suggestions for you to check out.

futuramasmallI have been excited for tonight’s episode of Futurama ever since one of the writers tweeted about it last fall. Every season, the series has one anthology episode comprised of a trio of short stories. One of my favorite episodes of Futurama was one of these anthology episodes, which featured 80’s video game characters. Tonight’s episode, “Saturday Morning Fun Pit,” finds the Planet Express crew starring in three different styles of 1980s Saturday-morning cartoons—Scooby-Doo, G.I. Joe, and Strawberry Shortcake. Being someone who watched a lot of 80s cartoons growing up, I can’t wait to see this parody/homage. I can’t believe we only have a few episodes left of the series!

See your favorites from the 80s tonight on Comedy Central at 10/9c.

I’ll also be recording Big Brother, Camp, MasterChef, Melissa & Joey, Baby Daddy, The Bridge, Franklin & Bash, and Royal Pains.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/19/13

I have been spending a lot of time fishing lately, and I have learned a few interesting things about myself. It’s amazing how much we learn about ourselves when we push our comfort zone—unfortunately, how far I push my comfort zone, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to handle putting the bait on the hook myself… Worms feel icky. 🙂 Good thing I have someone who will do it for me, just like I help plan his television schedule! Speaking of schedules, let’s see what you should be watching tonight.

americanbakingcompetitionsmallAt first, I was skeptical about whether or not CBS would be able to pull of a baking show, but with The American Baking Competition, they proved to me that they can! I have really been enjoying the level of challenges on this show, as well as Jeff Foxworthy’s hosting—he is actually quite funny. Last week’s cake challenges were tough, but I loved all the surprise cakes at the end, especially Kolette’s checkered cake. I now want to challenge myself to make an awesome checkered cake like that.

On tonight’s episode, “Breads,” the contestants must bake and present bread to the toughest judge of all—Paul Hollywood; one contestant add red-hots to her bread.

To see whose bread rises above the rest, tune in to CBS at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching MasterChef, Franklin & Bash, and Hot in Cleveland.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 8/29/12

Whew, the hot temperatures are back—although I’d gladly take the mid-90s to the 100+ degree temperatures of earlier in the summer! Still, it’s incredibly warm out, so take a break tonight, curl up in front of the fan or near the air conditioner, and watch some great TV. Here’s our recommendations for today!

Jenny’s Choice #1

I’m kind of sad because tonight are the season finales of the ABC Family comedies. I’ve been really enjoying this season of both, but I have to say I’m curious as to how tonight’s finale of Melissa & Joey will turn out. Last week, Joe spent nearly every minute of every day upstairs in the bedroom with his Russian girlfriend, Elena. That meant things around the house started to fall apart. Mel called him out on it, but he—and even Lennox—says she’s just jealous. When Joe went out to a poker game one night, Mel and Elena bonded somewhat, but in the process, Elena got mad at Joe for leaving her to go play poker. When he got home, he and Mel acted out Cyrano de Bergerac, with Mel giving Joe the lines to tell Elena. What she ended up doing was basically confessing her feelings for Joe, even though neither of them admitted to that. But it worked because Joe and Elena made up. THEN, Elena found out that her company in Russia was shut down by the government, and if she went back to Russia, she would be arrested. Freaking out, Joe proposed in order to keep her out of prison, and she accepted. Where that leaves Mel & Joe, I have no idea.

The story line with Lennox, Ryder, and the unhealthy snacks at school was cute but such a side story to the bigger story of Mel, Joe, and Elena that there’s not a lot to say, other than I enjoy both of them every episode, regardless of story line.

On tonight’s episode, “Mel Marries Joe,” Mel is shocked when Joe offers to marry Elena in order to keep her in the country, and refuses to take part in his scheme. But when it looks like everything will fall apart, Mel takes charge in order to protect both of them. A series of events lead to the wedding not going as planned.

See it tonight on ABC Family at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Melissa & Joey @ Clicker.
