If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/11/14

Good luck to everyone who will be on their computers tonight at midnight (PST), pre-ordering their new iPhone 6s in order to get them on release day! Unfortunately, I don’t qualify for an upgrade until October, so I’ll be on a scavenger hunt in a few weeks, trying to to find any place that actually has them in stock! At least it means I don’t have to try to wake up at 3am tonight to go online to order! For those of you who will be anxiously waiting to pre-order your shiny new phone tonight, we’ve got some TV recommendations to help keep you occupied until then. [One note from Jenny: Take a moment today, whether it be this morning at 8:46, 9:03, 9:37, & 10:03 when all four planes crashed, or at any other point during the day. It was a dark day in US history, and the victims, their families and friends, and everyone around the US—and the world—deserve to be remembered. So please, take a moment to remember those who were so tragically impacted on that fateful day thirteen years ago.)

haven911smallTonight, Haven returns to Syfy for the start of its massive 26-episode fifth season. At the end of last season, the gang had to stop William, but they needed four people who were born in other worlds in order to do so. The group hunted for a fourth person—besides Audrey, Jennifer and William himself. As Vince looked for the town’s adoption records to find a possible fourth, Dave warned the others not to open the door, as it would bring evil. Vince discovered that his brother Dave was hiding a secret—that he was from another world. So the other-worldly four were brought to the lighthouse and caused the portal to open. As Audrey pushed William into the abyss, he caught hold of her hand, doing something to her and unlocking her evil persona from a former life, Mara.

What kind of evil will Mara bring to the town of Haven, and will the guys be able to return Audrey to her former self? How will Dave’s revelation change his relationship with Vince and the others? And what dreadful new Troubles will befall the residents of Haven this season?!

On tonight’s episode, “See No Evil,” Nathan and Duke cope with the loss of Audrey, who seems to be gone for good after having transformed into the wickedly evil Mara.

To see how Nathan, Duke, and the rest of them are coping, tune in to Syfy at 8/7c.

I’ll also be watching/recording The Quest, Married, and You’re the Worst.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/8/13

Thank goodness Friday is finally here. It felt like this week was going to go on forever! The best part of the weekend is the extra time on Saturday night to catch up on my DVR viewing. That may sound pathetic to some, but it sounds like an enjoyable Saturday night to this tired lady. Speaking of enjoyable, let’s see what’s on tonight to keep us busy.

Megan’s Choice

haven118smallHawaii Five-0 has had a jam-packed season from the very start, with more and more story twists happening at every corner. Lately, we’ve been watching not only as Catherine is dealing with Billy’s death, but how supportive Steve has been. She has decided to throw herself into investigating ties for the Yakuza so she can help Kona find Adam. I’m happy that Steve is really standing behind her, because losing someone that is important to you can be very hard to move on from. Last week’s episode was pretty gruesome with the zombie-like guy staggering into the movie screening in the park that Max was attending. Later, we found out that the zombie was linked to a man that was actually doing testing on human beings to try to help fix the brains of troubled youth. I was pretty creeped out by this episode, but glad they figured it all out in the end.

On tonight’s episode, “Ua Nalohia,” when Mary gets sick, McGarrett and the team must watch her newly adopted baby while they investigate the murder of an undercover ATF agent.

To see how the boys deal with a baby, tune in to CBS at 9/8c.

I’ll also be watching Blue Bloods, Grimm, Dracula, MasterChef: Junior, Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta, and Secret Princes.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 9/13/13

There’s something magical about when you open your eyes on a Friday morning, and you know you just have to make it through the day and your weekend begins! Let’s see what is on tonight to help you kick off the weekend.

haven913smallHaven has quickly become the little show that could. I have been a fan from the beginning, and I’m so happy that we’re going into the fourth season. The quirky nature of the characters combined with an intriguing plot is what makes this show undeniably a gem. I’m never sure where they are going, but it’s always a fabulous place.

When we left off last season, Audrey went into the barn, with Nathan and Duke chasing after her. Will we see any of them again? Guess we’ll have to tune in to find out.

On tonight’s premiere, “Fallout,” Duke is ejected from the barn and rescued by a young woman; Audrey is missing, and the Troubles are worse than ever.

To see what happens, tune in to Syfy at 10/9c.

I’ll also be watching Say Yes to the Dress and The Million Second Quiz.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/2/12

It’s been a long week here at my house. Our oldest kitty (he was born in August 1996, the same month my husband & I got married, and we adopted him when he was a month old) had gotten to the point where he wasn’t eating or drinking beyond a few laps of water or milk each day, and his hind quarters wasn’t working. He couldn’t walk on his back legs at all. He wasn’t in pain, so we were hoping to let him die peacefully at home, but Wednesday afternoon, we made the decision that rather than let him starve or dehydrate himself to death, we would take him in to the vet on Thursday morning and have him put to sleep. It was literally the hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, and my heart is still broken. That said, there is some great TV on tonight to help distract me and entertain you, so check out our recommendations for what to watch tonight.

I was going to pick Nikita again this week because I am loving the new season, but then I remembered that tonight is the season premiere of Last Man Standing. I know, I know. I can hear Kyle’s groan from here. But I really enjoyed the show last year. I’m not sure quite what to think because they replaced Alexandra Krosney, who played teen mom Kristin, with Amanda Fuller. I liked Alexandra in the role. I’m not sure why they recast her…but I do hope I like Amanda just as much, if not more. Maybe it’s because they are aging Kristin’s son, Boyd, to five years old, so they needed to age her a little, as well? Regardless, I enjoy the show a lot, so I’m sure I’ll be fine with the recasting. They recast Ryan, Boyd’s father, as well—from Nick Jonas to Jordan Masterson. Last season, Jonas was in one episode, while Masterson will be in multiple episodes.

On tonight’s episode, “Voting,” Mike does all he can to persuade first-time voter Mandy to vote for Governor Romney in the upcoming presidential election. But when he lobbies her heavily, he finds himself going up against her older sister, Kristin, and Boyd’s father, Ryan, who are just as enthusiastic for President Obama and disagree with Mike’s trying to influence Mandy. While they all battle for Mandy’s vote and soul, Vanessa remains neutral in the interest of family harmony.

See if season two is as funny as season one was tonight on ABC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Last Man Standing @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/26/12

You know last Friday, I mentioned that it was getting colder? NOTHING like it is now. What a difference a week makes. Things here have been up and down all week, so I’m looking forward to having some downtime to just relax and chill out while I watch some great TV—and we’re prepared to tell you what we think you should watch, so check out our recommendations for the night. 😉

Jenny’s Choice

I was going to do Nikita again (because how freakin adorable was Michael when he shouted that he was going back to get her engagement ring, and then the proposal and Nikita saying what she did? LOVED it. 😀 ), but then I realized the backdoor pilot of the new Mockingbird Lane is airing tonight. I LOVE this idea. The Munsters brought to life again by the mind behind the brilliant show Pushing Daisies and starring Jerry O’Connell (who I love)? Sign me up. Mockingbird Lane is a new reimagined version of the classic 1960s comedy The Munsters, now as a visually spectacular one-hour drama with a darker edge and tone. The cast includes Jerry O’Connell (The Defenders) as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development) as his wife Lily, Eddie Izzard (United States of Tara, The Riches) as Grandpa, Mason Cook (Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D) as Eddie, and Charity Wakefield (The Raven) as Marilyn.

I have no idea when the show will truly premiere, but I hope the pilot lives up to my expectations. Brian Fuller was a genius with Pushing Daisies, so I am truly hoping he brings that magic to this new show.

On tonight’s episode, “Pilot,” sweet little Eddie Munster is a normal kid about to enter the horrors of puberty. Truth is, he’s about to discover that for him becoming a teenager means growing hair in truly unexpected places—as in all over his body—every time the moon is full! Eddie’s got it pretty good, though. His loving, supportive, run-of-the-mill family includes his mom Lily, the daughter of Dracula; his dad Herman, who brings new meaning to “Frankenstein”; and Grandpa, who would give Dracula a run for his money if he weren’t actually Dracula! Of course, then there’s creepy cousin Marilyn, who’s really the odd one because she’s so completely normal.

Don’t miss it tonight on NBC at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of Mockingbird Lane @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching/recording Nikita, Fringe, CSI: NY, Haven, Grimm, Blue Bloods, & Hunted.
