Ramblings of a Shipper’s Heart: The Woe of Woo

The other day, I was looking at shows that are building up on my DVR, and Scott, my husband, just shook his head and sighed. I have six episodes of Burn Notice (which includes last season’s finale) and five episodes of Royal Pains on there. That’s every episode of the first and all but the first two episodes of the second so far this season. I can’t bring myself to watch them (although I have hopes about that changing soon with Burn Notice…). Why? Because I hate a story line so much on both shows that I can’t enjoy the shows themselves. And yes, the title of this post is about a Shipper (which, if you don’t know, means someone who roots for a certain relationship (ergo, “shipper”) from a TV show, movie, book, whatever. Not all of this rant is about relationship woes on TV, but I suppose there is an underlying theme for most of them. 😉

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/12/11

It’s officially one week until I hope on a plane headed to San Diego to Comic-Con! Who else is getting excited? 😀 Luckily, this is a busy week of television to keep my mind off of it… Well, almost. 😉 Let’s take a look at what’s going to distract me tonight.

Megan’s Choice

I have been loving the new drama, Combat Hospital, and I’m surprised by that. There have been so many medical shows on television in the past few years, but this one has set the bar high for the rest of the season. I’m really enjoying all the armed forces injuries and watching the difficulties that they face in the medical field.

On tonight’s episode, a Romanian civilian suffers a brain hemorrhage and needs immediate neurosurgery, and Simon must talk Rebecca through the operation on a cell phone from a medevac helicopter. Bobby and Pedersen examine a high-ranking Air Force officer with insomnia.

Tune in to ABC at 10/9c to fall in love with this show like I have. Learn where to find episodes online of Combat Hospital @ Clicker.

Interview with Bill Engvall from HawthoRNe

Bill Engvall (The Bill Engvall Show, Blue Collar TV, The Jeff Foxworthy Show) is known for his funny. He’s great at comedy (whether it’s standup, television, or movies), but just recently, he showed off he’s more than just a comedian. His guest role last year on Leverage led into his new guest spot last week on HawthoRNe, and he’s quickly proven he can do drama just as well as he can spin the funny.

Plus, check out the picture… He looks damn good in that suit, doesn’t he? Very official-like! 😀

I got to speak to him last week one on one about his guest starring role in TNT’s HawthoRNe. He really is so friendly and easy to talk to, it was much easier than I was thinking it would be going into it. Check out the questions I asked him below and the fantastic answers he gave about his role in the show, the cast, and what else he has coming up.

TV Is My Pacifier: I know from reading up on the episodes and seeing the first of them last night that you play an Internal Affairs detective who is investigating Detective Nick Renata. In your own words, can you tell me a little bit more about your character and the role you play in the show?

Bill Engvall: Jimmy Dupree is this guy who is an internal affairs cop. He’s kind of a good ol’ southern boy who’s got a real dark side to him. He comes off with the… Oh, you know, he’s everybody’s buddy. He’s taking you out for beers, and ‘Hey, I’m just asking a few questions. You’re not in any kind of trouble.’ Next thing you know, I’m throwing handcuffs on you. What I really wanted to bring to life with this character is that he has his flaws — a lot of them — but he’s a good cop. He’s been thrown into this kind of mix that he’s gotta figure out who did what and why did this go down. I think people are going to be real surprised over the next two episodes, because there are some real major twists and turns in this. I wish I could tell you all of them, but…

It was a dream come true getting to act off of Jada [Pinkett-Smith, Christina], Marc [Anthony, Detective Nick Renata], Mr. Vartan [Michael Vartan, Tom]. I really grew as an actor over that three week period of shooting that thing, because I’ve worked… You know, I learned early on that if you’re going to do a scene with Jada Pinkett-Smith, you’d better bring your A game, ’cause she don’t lay up. That was great, because it forced me to be the best I could be, and you know, I’ll tell you this… It was fun, because even scenes when she wasn’t in the scene, she’s watching it. She’s there for you if you have questions or maybe she has a suggestion. And that’s just what it is, just a suggestion. She doesn’t come to you and say ‘Do it this way.’ She says ‘What do you think about this?’ and I go, ‘Ooh, I like that.’ So very helpful, very encouraging, and you can not imagine how much fun it was to do. Plus, for me to get in the face of Marc Anthony… That was awesome.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 6/14/11

Tonight is a fantastic night in television, with some new episodes of some great shows, as well as a few season premieres that we’re very excited about. There’s so much great TV on, Megan and I are both recommending mutliple shows. I was going to do four and include the 2nd of Megan’s picks, but she offered to do it so I only had to do 3 myself. 😉 But I plan to watch both of her offerings, as well, so definitely watch them, too!

Jenny’s Choice #1

My first pick tonight is the new episode of Covert Affairs. I love this show. It’s got the USA feel to it, while giving me hints of Alias. I love the cast (I mean, really, I can’t say enough great things about Piper Perabo and Chris Gorham!), and the storylines are almost always just really fun. This season, they get to travel a lot, too, although not the entire cast. 😉 For example, tonight’s episode took Piper to Paris, leaving the rest of the cast at home. But it’s cool that when they do show her in Paris, she is actually there, not just on a sound stage made to LOOK like Paris.

On tonight’s episode, Annie travels to … Paris, intent on turning a secretary at the Syrian embassy into an asset, but her efforts are complicated by the fact that there is a Mossad agent (Ziva?!) also on the woman’s tail, who has the intention of doing the same. Oded Fehr returns as Eyal Lavin.

Check it out tonight on the USA Network at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Covert Affairs @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 7/13/10

Our deepest apologies for missing our post yesterday, one of those “I thought she posted it” things. 😉 What can we say we have our moments, and we’re entitled. 🙂 All that aside we’re here now and all is right with the world.

Megan’s Choice

I’m not very original tonight, because I’m going to recommend Make It or Break It on ABC Family at 9/8c. Tonight’s it’s debut in the new time slot, and I’m excited. Pretty Little Liars followed by Make It or Break It is going to make for a drama and humor filled night.

If you haven’t seen this entertaining show yet, you are missing out. You need to check it out and fall in love with the emotional stories, the funny one-liners and the tremendous displays of gymnastics. Tune in to ABC Family tonight at 9/8c and you’ll be happy you did.
