If We Controlled Your Remote… 5/21/12

It’s been an exhausting weekend – first, I helped my brother move. Then I drove back and forth between three different hardware stores, purchasing/assembling/disassembling/returning replacement gas grill burners until I found one that fit my grill. So I’m kind of happy that this week is relatively light on new TV… I still have a lot of finales to catch up on!

Tonight, after 8 seasons, House finally comes to an end. Last week, House tried to convince Wilson to resume his chemo treatments so they could have more time together. However, in the end, they both decided to just enjoy the final 6 months. But shortly afterwards, House was told that his most recent shenanigans at the hospital had violated his parole and that he would need to return to prison to serve the rest of his sentence. So where do we go from here? Will House somehow avoid prison? Or will Wilson change his mind about the chemo so that he will have time with House once he is released? How will it all come to an end? (I recently participated in a Q&A with creator David Shore to discuss the series and tonight’s finale. You can find the write-up here.)

Tonight, FOX is airing a special 2-hour House finale event, starting with a one-hour series retrospective, “Swan Song,” which includes highlights from the series and interviews with cast members and producers. And in the finale, “Everybody Dies,” House treats an ailing drug addict, which leads him to sift through his life, speculating on his future and exploring his personal demons.

Don’t miss the end to an amazing run on FOX starting at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of House @ Clicker.

Tonight, I’ll also be watching Eureka. (Wow – only 2 shows!)

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/28/11

Did everyone have a good holiday & break from work/school? We had a great visit up in Iowa with my husband’s family, although I hate traveling in general. I was glad to be back home and in my own bed! Today, we started preparing for Christmas, actually figuring out what we already have and what we still need to buy. Lots to go, unfortunately. So what little new TV is on this week, I’m going to be glad to see, just to give me something to relax to and forget all the holiday preparation! You?

One of my favorite new shows in the last few years is last season’s Rizzoli & Isles on TNT. I’ve always loved Angie Harmon, and the role of Jane Rizzoli is perfect for her. She has phenomenal chemistry with Sasha Alexander, who plays Medical Examiner Maura Isles. The show is based on the book series by Tess Gerritsen, which I love. Rizzoli is a homicide cop, gruff around the edges, but damn good at what she does. She’s joined by her mother, played by the amazing Lorraine Bracco, and brother, Jordan Bridges, as well as fellow police officers, Bruce McGill & Lee Thompson Young. It’s a fun cop show, with a great hook of having the two best friends working so closely in the same field. Tonight is the first new episode in two months, and I’m excited, because it’s appointment TV.

On tonight’s episode, “Can I Get a Witness?” a witness agrees to testify against a gang member after a community activist is gunned down; TV host Bill O’Reilly criticizes the police department. Roselyn Sanchez (Without a Trace) guest stars.

Check it out tonight on TNT at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Rizzoli & Isles @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/14/11

Ten or so days until Thanksgiving. Between now and then—actually, between now and January!—things will begin to slow down on TV for the holidays. That makes me sad, realizing the season is almost halfway over already! Still, even though there’s no new Castle tonight, there’s still plenty on, so check out what we recommend now!

Last week, jaws dropped all over America as viewers watched the new episode of How I Met Your Mother. Why? In case you were hiding under a rock or haven’t been tuning in to this fun show, you may not know that Barney & Robin—months after having broken up, and while both are in a serious, monogamous relationship with someone else—were joking around in the back of a cab, pretending to do a messy, sloppy kiss…which soon turned into a whopper of the real thing. What does that mean for their friendship and their relationships with Nora & Kevin? I don’t know, but I’m looking forward to finding out. I want Robin & Barney to get back together, but I have my doubts about it being this soon. If they get back together now, I have a feeling that may mean bad things for the possibility of Robin being Barney’s bride (that we did NOT see in the season premiere). Meanwhile, Ted is still sadly single, Lily & Marshall are… enjoying Lily’s pregnancy, and last week, we got to experience two more slaps in the slap bet—plus the addition of another one, so Barney could stop wearing the ducky tie. All in all, it was a good episode!

On tonight’s episode, “Tick Tick Tick,” Barney and Robin find themselves in a personal predicament when they try to do everything they can to hide a damaging secret from their significant others. Marshall, Lily, and Ted all decide to attend a concert. Kal Penn and Nazanin Boniadi return as Kevin & Nora. Also guest starring are Alexis Denisof (Alyson Hannigan’s—Lily—real life husband), as Sandy Rivers, and Jacob Witkin & Robin Krieger as Nora’s parents.

Tune in to CBS at 8/7c. Learn where to find episodes online of How I Met Your Mother @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 11/7/11

It’s Monday, it’s Monday! I’m so happy because Monday night is my favorite night for TV tonight. I love so many shows, so even though it’s the first work day of the week, I look forward to Monday nights. I hope you had a great weekend, but even if that or your Monday sucks, you’ll be able to sit down and have a great time watching some quality TV tonight. Enjoy!

Last week’s episode of Castle was fantastic. Castle & his mother were inside the bank when a group of bank robbers held up the place. Castle just happened to be on the phone with Beckett when it happened, which is when one of my favorite parts happened. He told her he thought the bank was being robbed, and she asked, “Really? Are you that bored?” Then the first robber yelled that it was a holdup, and Beckett realized Castle hadn’t just been letting his imagination run wild. Beckett turned to Ryan and Espisito and told them there was a bank robbery in progess. They snarked about since when did they handle bank robberies, and she only had to say two words for them to jump into action: “Castle’s there.” It was fantastic. There were some stand out moments throughout, including Alexis arriving at the bank and freaking out on Beckett, the look and hand touch when Castle passed the note to Beckett after she came into the bank posing as an EMT to get out a “hostage,” and probably my favorite part… when there was an explosion at the end and Beckett thought Castle was dead, but found out a minute later when they went inside that he was safe… They shared this long look and tender moment that just HAD to be ruined by Martha. I could seriously watch the explosion and next two minutes over and over again to see that look on their faces. lol Anyway, the end of the episode, where Beckett came to Castle’s apartment for dinner. It was a great moment just between the two of them, as well as with Beckett and all of the Castle family. I really loved the episode, as always.

On tonight’s episode, “Heartbreak Hotel,” during the investigation of the murder of an Atlantic City casino owner at an abandoned warehouse, strong leads emerge for the team in both New York and Atlantic City. As Beckett and Capt. Gates work the New York leads together, Castle naturally chooses to join the detectives for the road trip to “America’s Playground,” hoping to help solve the case while throwing an impromptu bachelor party for Ryan. Richard Burgi (Desperate Housewives) guest stars as Charlie Turner, the slick business partner of the victim.

Do not miss it tonight on ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Castle @ Clicker.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 10/17/11

Unfortunately, it’s Monday, which means back to work for a lot of people. Thankfully, there is a ton of great new TV on tonight to console you. Monday is one of my favorite nights of the week simply because of that. You? Let us know below after you see what we recommend!

My first pick tonight should come as no surprise, because Castle has been fan-freakin-tabulous this season. The chemistry between Castle and Beckett is ramping up, and the rest of the cast has been really gelling well, too. The new captain is…a hard ass, to put it semi-politely. lol She still hates Castle, even with the results they are bringing, but I have to wonder if he is beginning to win her over. It’s going to be fun to see how he charms her over to his side—cause you know he will…he’s Richard Castle, after all! Tonight, Beckett is going to get jealous about Castle’s attraction to one of the people involved in their investigation. Will this get her one step closer to admitting to him that she remembers everything from the day she was shot, and that she loves him, too? Only time will tell!

On tonight’s episode, “Eye of the Beholder,” Castle & Beckett work a murder case around the theft of a valuable sculpture. Kristin Lehman (The Killing) guest stars as Serena Kaye, a smart, sexy insurance investigator, who joins Castle & Beckett in the investigation, but she also has her eyes set on Castle, all the while hiding a very important secret from the team. Jessica Tuck (True Blood) also guest stars as Joy McHugh, a wealthy museum benefactor who becomes a suspect in the murder investigation.

Check it out tonight on ABC at 10/9c. Learn where to find episodes online of Castle @ Clicker.
