HBO Luck $50K Challenge & Behind-the-Scenes Video!

To celebrate the premiere of the new original series, Luck, HBO is launching the Luck $50K Challenge on Facebook. This innovative horseracing app offers Facebook users a chance to win $50,000 by submitting their picks for the winning horses in a series of six REAL thoroughbred horse races.

The six races – known collectively as The HBO Luck Pick Six – will be run at Santa Anita Park (Los Angeles) and Gulfstream Park (Miami) on Saturday, January 28. Post time for the first race of The HBO Luck Pick Six is tentatively scheduled for 4/3c.

The Luck $50K Challenge on Facebook was designed for everyone – from first-time betters to hard core handicappers – and is easy to enter. Go to facebook.com/LUCKHBO today, “like” the page, and reserve your “betting ticket.”

TV News – New Poster & Trailer for HBO’s Luck

On Sunday, HBO aired a sneak peek of the Luck pilot, over a month before the series premiere in January. The series takes place at the Santa Anita racetrack in California and follows the thoroughbred racing business from every point of view—from the jockeys, vets, trainers, and owners to the gamblers, bookies, and racetrack employees. There are so many characters introduced in this first hour that it got a bit confusing and sometimes overwhelming. However, the pilot primarily focuses on a group of four gamblers who set out to win the pick six prize of $2.7 million. We also meet Ace (Dustin Hoffman), a man just released from prison, who is now using his driver Gus as a front in order to purchase a horse and get back into the gambling racket.

From the previews for the upcoming season, it looks like things will branch out beyond the racetrack into all forms of gambling and corruption. There are so many talented, big name, and recognizable faces from television and movies in this series. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the story develops and how the lives of all of these different folks intersect.

If We Controlled Your Remote… 12/11/11

We are 15 days away from Christmas Day, which is not good, because I have so much left to do. We are also only 10 days away from the start of Hanukkah, and and 16 away from Kwanza. But whatever holiday you celebrate, the one thing that remains is how this time of year represents a slow in the television world. I am not looking forward to a few weeks of barely any new shows. Luckily, this week still has a few must see shows to keep our attention. So pull up a piece of couch and check out what you should be watching tonight.

Megan’s Choice

It’s here! Tonight is the season finale of The Amazing Race. After last week’s sad elimination of my favorite team of Tommy & Andy, we are left with Ernie & Cindy, Jeremy & Sandy, and Amani & Marcus. Out of the teams left, I’m leaning toward Amani & Marcus, but I’d be happy with anyone but Jeremy & Sandy. They annoy me too much. Whatever the outcome, it’s been an interesting race, and as always, I’ve enjoyed it.

On tonight’s episode, “Go Out and Get It Done,” after racing through 4 continents, 20 cities, and nearly 40,000 miles, the final three teams race to Atlanta, GA, where a smooth landing evades one team as their competition soars. In the end, the winning team is crowned and awarded the $1 million dollar prize.
